A nice addition to any crocheter's library. The patterns range from the expected snowflakes and stars to three-dimensional ornaments like tiny bells, a mini stocking and wreaths, giving a nice range of options, while additional photos give inspiration for ways to use your new creations. Required yardage could be anything from 4 to 40 yards, so this is an ideal way to use up any excess crochet cotton thread you have lying around.
In the introduction and end you'll find help with starching and blocking, and explanations of the stitches used and how to work in rounds, front or back loops, along with a stitch conversion chart. These patterns are written with US terminology, though that fact is somewhat buried.
From my perspective, the only things that would have made this better would be a quick skill rating and an idea of time required, but maybe a more experienced crocheter wouldn't mind. I suspect many of them are currently beyond me, but won't know till I try.
Some nice items to crochet for the festive season, clear 'how to crochet' instructions for the beginner. Basic , boring photographs are the only thing letting this book down
As a beginner, I had hoped this book would allow me to start small and it did! Admittedly, some instructions were way beyond me, but I hope to work up to them. The simple designs I absolutely love since I'm incorporating them into paper crafting, not necessary as christmas ornaments. I'm excited to progress (after many knots of course :).
These are really beautiful! I really loved the example of how to use them on cards, and will be working on those for next year! I, however, will be calling them Yule ornaments.
Perfect for anyone who loves to crochet. A selection of pretty Christmas ornaments to make, suitable for all levels of skill, and with clear instructions and illustrations. One small warning - the UK reader needs to check the definitions at the back as this is a US publication and they differ slightly but that is explained. All in all a charming book, and one which would make a great gift.
A fun gift idea that is also great for beginners because the project is smaller. Christopher presents a variety of over 50 designs with well written instructions. In addition to row by row steps, instructions include a recommended hook size and approximate amount of yarn for the project. Basic crochet instructions are also provided for beginners or those who need a refresher on a specific stitch. The aforementioned are essential to the book because it uses variety of stitches and for readers that are unfamiliar with the abbreviations and vocab that Christopher uses in the instructions for each ornament.
These are quick, delightful little projects in thread crochet. Blocking guides are included as well as basic crochet directions for beginners. These would make great decorations for gifts as well as for the Christmas tree..
Nice group of patterns-- as someone who is new to working with thread, I appreciated the patterns and completed pictures. On that note, it would have been nice to have seen patterns illustrating each step so that you have an idea of how it should look after each round.

Christmas Ordaments to Crochet by Barbara Christopher is a beautiful book.
This Christmas, even if you live in Southern California, your Christmas can be white. Your Christmas tree can be green, covered with snowflakes of varying shapes and sizes. Also wreaths and bells can be added to your tree giving it texture.
If you don't wish to put the ordaments on your tree, consider adhearing them to the front of a present, instead of buying a bow.
If you don't know how to crochet, you can flip to the back of the book and learn.
This book is all inclusive, and I think my Mother in Law would love this book.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
