What a fantastic collection of Christmas themed tales! I have a feeling that reading these stories aloud with the kids will become a beloved Christmas tradition for our family.
With beautiful illustrations from a years past, this book is sure to become a treasured family heirloom. I would buy this for families with young children as their eyes will open with delight over the stories and poems.
I especially enjoyed the story about the little boy named Tommy who was worried that Santa would give his sisters more gifts in their Christmas stockings because they were bigger than his socks. It was so reminiscent of stories from my own childhood with a moral, and I had to laugh at the ending.
I'm sure whoever on your list receives this book will be thrilled with it.
I am always on the watch for books that I can share as reading adventures with my children and grandchildren. "A Christmas Treasury" is a collection of classic holidays that can never be read enough or too often. This is truly a treasury - of those stories that are meant to be shared through the ages.
Ah, sweet nostalgia! This book is a throwback to a simpler and often more elegant time.
Dover Publications has put together a collection (or 'treasury') of stories, poems, and illustrations from the turn of the century. Clement Moore's "The Night Before Christmas" is a perennial classic and would be obvious if it were missing, but the inclusion of lesser-known works makes this a gem. Our bookstores and bookshelves are over-flowing with modern holiday reads, most of which don't satisfy but exist because someone (many someones) is hoping to cash in on the festivities. But these older tales stand the test of time because they tell us interesting or important stories. My favorite is "How Santa Filled the Christmas Stockings" in which a greedy young boy learns a hard lesson.
This Victorian-era art is elegant and charming. Who can't look at the picture of a warmly-wrapped child riding the back of a Polar bear with a sky filled with both a bright sun and a colorful aurora and not be charmed?
This isn't necessarily the sort of holiday book that my children would choose to read, but it IS the sort of book that my children would enjoy having me read to them at bedtime around the holidays!
Looking for a good book? This is a simple and elegant, turn-of-the-century sampler of holiday stories that is likely to be a treasured book for families that enjoy celebrating Christmas.

MY THOUGHTS:
This book is gorgeous! The illustrations are so classical and from a time gone by. The stories are truly seasonal classics that not only will children enjoy, but their parents will enjoy it also. It would be a wonderful coffee table book or gift. Totally heirloom quality.

This collection, with its cute nostalgic illustrations will be great for family read-alongs or bedtime stories during the holiday season.
Old fashioned Christmas stories give you an idea about what Christmas was like 100 years ago! Nothing like Christmas stories of today. Great for holiday lovers and also history buffs!
A great collection of Christmas stories. I love reading Christmas stories with my children during the holidays. This is one book that will definitely be on my list to read with them. The illustrations will captures the childrens attention and the stories will resonate with the readers.

If you are in the mood for some old fashioned Christmas stories, this anthology is just the ticket. The six fully illustrated tales include The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore (1917), Father Christmas by Clifton Bingham (1920), How Santa Filled the Christmas Stockings by Carilyn S. Hodgman (1916), A Visit to Santa Claus by Margaret Evans Price (1917), Polar Bear at the Zoo by Helen C. Dods (1917), and Christmas ABC (1910). Young readers will probably recognize The Night Before Christmas, but the others hold some enchantment for them as well. Kids will enjoy seeing that Christmas concerns, such as will Santa bring Tommy the same amount of presents in his stocking as he brings his older siblings with bigger stockings, were as common then as they are now. This book certainly is a treasure. Ages 5+
This anthology of Christmas stories was nicely done with gorgeous illustrations that looked antique in a beautiful way. My daughter was enthralled by the pictures, and easily recognized Santa, despite his less than modern appearance. The stories were cute and simple as well, and since they were short, they easily kept my daughters attention. I will be adding this to our holiday reading list for next year again since my daughter seemed to really enjoy it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love old Christmas pictures and stories. This one was filled with and told mainly with pictures from days gone by. The stories were cute and perfect for the young child to enjoy during the magical Chrismas season. I would get the paperback version and not the Kindle version. I don't know if the formatting was just off on my review copy but often the picture and text were on different pages so I would tap past the picture before getting to read the text and we had to keep going back after reading to look at the pictures again. So this is one book I say get a hard copy of and don't try to view it on the Kindle.
