Description

Frederick Chance, Viscount Pernrith, isn’t really a Chance. Not entirely.

The illegitimate son of the late Duke of Cothrom, he’s tolerated by his three brothers and ostracized from the best circles. His title is a pity gesture from the family that never truly accepted him, and his bastard origins mean no one in Society will take him seriously.

Particularly not the latest rose of Society…

Miss Edith Stewart, on the other hand, is rather sick of Society’s attention. Flourishing rose of the Season? What rot.

She’s far more interested in the forbidden. The edges of Society. Those to whom she should, apparently, not be speaking.

An illicit encounter leaves them forced, for now, to pretend there’s an engagement between them—one that they will, of course, break as soon as it is appropriate.

Most definitely break. Absolutely will break. Soon.

After all, it’s not like Frederick’s got more than half a chance of actually wooing Miss Edie Stewart…does he?

This novel continues the highly anticipated Chance family drama, with four brothers and just as many problems. Tropes include: rich/poor, found family, fake engagement, and of course, Emily E K Murdoch’s tried and true method of sizzling, joyful romance.

This full-length novel is a steamy Regency romance with a happily ever after and no cliffhangers. It is part of a series that can be read in any order.

Featured Reviews

This was a strong fourth entry in the Chances series, it had what I enjoyed from the previous three books. The overall feel worked and enjoyed the historical setting of this book. The characters felt like they were supposed to and enjoyed how they worked with the story. Emily E K Murdoch has a great writing style and am excited for more.

Social Status, Brothers, Ruse:
Wow, my favorite character Frederick now has his own story that captivated me from the start.
Being born on the wrong side of the blanket didn't leave Frederick with a very happy childhood. Actually, it was a most miserable childhood.
Never interested in high society usually found himself hiding away from the usual crowd.
This is where we meet Edie. Hiding and or just plain escaping the crowds at the ball since she is now known as the Flourishing Rose of the season. A title she doesn't enjoy. She just wants to be known for who she really is.
The two characters meet quite unexpectedly and a terrific story of romance, begins to blossom.
We follow this couple through the usual ups and downs until they finally realize just how much they want to be together for real.
I was so happy to see how all of the family finally came together, and I look forward to just what their family life will look like in the future.
A delightful series of intriguing characters.
