This is a very helpful companion book to My Utmost for His Highest. For each daily reading there are four parts: Background Information; Scriptural Context; What's the Devotional Saying?; and Application. The author suggests that along with this book you have two other books: My Utmost For His Highest and a Bible. I have found that I can look Bible passages up online and utmost.org has the daily reading, so if you have a tablet or computer it takes less time to find what you are looking for. I have also found that a journal for thoughts is also helpful.

I highly recommend this as a way to go into the New Year on any day your New Year of adding this to your daily devotional time starts. One other thing I recommend; from my own experience when working with devotionals, I will sometimes spend a few days on one day's thoughts that seemed so meaningful to me that I needed extra time. It once took over a month of reading the same thought every day for me to fully grasp the importance to me. After years of trying to stay on schedule, I've given the idea up that I always have to be on the correct day. While the books has dates, start with January 1 when you get the book and take your time.
