This is the most darling, adorable, book!! I just want to sit with my kids and make everything in the book. The pictures are great. And the instructions are very well done. These crafts are so cute.
I loved the ideas in this book. You see these things at craft bazaars, and stores like Pier One. Why spend all that money when you could just make it yourself.
Review will be posted December 5 I just love looking at cute crafts. Sometimes I try to make them myself other times I just look and never find the time to make things. The cover of Handmade Christmas really caught my attention. Everything was SO cute! I mean, just look at that pinecone gnome! The book has a guide to all of the supplies you might need (handy!) and then over 20 different projects that you can make. The only downside is it seems these all call for glitter (it is Glitterville's book, after all) but that is banned in my house! (It gets everywhere and stays stuck to you for days!) Some the glitter really completes the look so I'll have to see if there are any where you can get away without sprinkling glitter all over the place and still have it look whimsical.
SO many great and cute ideas... so little time... I do really want to try the glitter village (it would be great for my doll Zac!) but we'll see what happens. And of course, if I can get my hands on any pinecones I'll end up with a gnome village! The gingerbread cookie kids are adorable and also look like they'd be pretty simple and fun to make... So would the nutcracker candy bucket. And the tips on how to make the Christmas Log actually made me go "ooh!" outloud. Never thought to use a glue gun to create texture and wood grain!
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.
Cute, step by step holiday craft ideas. Templates in the back of the book make these projects fun for the whole family. Adult supervision will be required for the projects, but the whole family will enjoy these crafts.
A beautiful book, a must for every crafter. Amazing designs and lovely photographs
the kind of craft book students love - full of glitter and cuteness. Art programs have been cut so keeping do-it-yourself art projects on the shelf is important.
Who doesn't love glitter? It brings memories of decorating the Christmas tree with the whole family. Well, Stephen Brown seems to remember those days. He's put together an entire book of glitter themed decorations that can be made with items around the house as well as a few purchased from a hobby store. Most of the projects will appeal to children and create an opportunity for some family togetherness time.
There's a colorful gnome made from a pinecone and you'll want to make more than one. To keep him company are tiny glitter pixies. And to complete a wonderful Christmas display, give them a place to live by making the glitter village and the magical sparkle forest.
Adults will find projects of their own. A felt holly wreath pattern is included for door decoration and bakers will enjoy the coconut cake with lemon filling.. For my part, I can't wait to make the pink chenille pine with sappy sweet ornaments..
So, take a look at the book, stock up on your glitter and get crafting! Christmas will be hear sooner than you think.
I was gifted Glitterville's Handmade Christmas by Stephen brown in exchange for an honest review. I thought about reading the book, but resisted. I have so many craft books just waiting for me to make something out of them. Curiousty got me and I downloaded the book and began perusing through. . . OK, I knew it, I'm hooked. I've found many ideas I will be making. Stephen begins the book with a step-by-step manual for make and do, a guide to help before beginning any of the craft ideas. While a few of the ideas may be too advanced for younger children, many would be suitable for elementary age. I will be recommending this book for my family, friends, and colleagues. EASILY FIVE STARS!
Even if you pick this book up to flip through the pages, it will be well worth the money! The pictures are sweet and the projects are do-able and fun. There is a strong esthetic throughout, but each project can easily be made your own with little tweaks.
This is one of the best Christmas themed craft books. I absolutely loved it and I already published my review on Amazon UK.
I got this book as a free eARC (Advanced Reader Copy) from netgalley.com. This does not affect my review or opinion of this book.
This book delivers what every craft book should do, inspiration! The projects are fun, do-able, and are easily tweaked to be used for other projects and occasions. The book is aesthetically pleasing too, projects are well demonstrated and the photography is gorgeous! I don't usually come across craft books that I actually enjoy flipping through without getting bored.
If you are a crafter, this book (and its projects) will make a great edition to your library.
Totally Glitterlicious! So whimsical and just so darn cute. Right away I started planning my Christmas crafting. The pictures are beautiful and the instructions are very detail oriented. This is a gorgeous book for just looking at or satisfying your crafting urge.
An absolute delight for the whole family!
First up, the book is beautifully designed and laid out. From the cover to the photography and especially to the page design, it's an absolute l pleasure to read.
Second up - I've owned a few craft books in my time but after the initial "ooh, look, I could make that!" you realise that you'd have to spend quite a bit of extra cash on purchasing the necessaries to make the pretty things. Not so much with this book, a lot of items you'll already have to hand.
Third up, the author doesn't just provide excellent instructions and templates for decorative items made with pipe cleaners and glitter, etc., he also makes Cake! Cookies! And Candy!
Fourth up, all of the items look as if they're very make-able, both by klutzes (me) and younger members of the family.
So... our two grandsons (currently 8 and 5.5) will be coming to stay at October half term and I'll be putting this book to the test. I've already started collecting cardboard toilet rolls and the plan is to make Mr Brown's delicious coconut cake with lemon icing which I'll serve with a jug of hot chocolate when we get home from collecting cones ready to make a set of "pine cone glitter gnomes" for the Christmas tree. Can't wait.

Fun Christmas decorations with a quirky feel that makes them different from traditional Christmas items. Excellent step-by-step illustrated instructions will encourage crafters to create their own unique versions.
This book gives Christmas a refreshing twist. Don't get me wrong I love me some traditional country Christmas decor, but this is just too fun. The book was well thought out, very organized and these projects are all very approachable and so easy to draw inspiration from!
I seriously want to make everything in this book. Because glitter! The crafts are a delight and the photographs are gorgeous. Perfect, whimsical layout. I'm guessing most crafters will have a great deal of the materials and supplies in their stashes already (I know I do!), and if not, the materials are inexpensive and easy to find. The instructions are well-written and easy to follow. Love, love, love this! Glitter for everyone!
Fun, cute crafts with easy to follow directions. Love the pictures of almost every step in the directions. This is a great book for beginners to crafting or more seasoned ones.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via NETGALLEY.
This is the type of book I still prefer in a traditional paper print format. The photographs are wonderful and I would appreciate looking at them even when I was not in the middle of crafting. Stephen Brown has made this a real celebration book. These are the kinds of crafts a family would love doing together and appreciate the memories year after year.
I enjoyed the poems about the projects, but wish there would have been one more to end the book, give it a more finished feeling.
The first 20% of this book is a wonderful introduction to tools and materials, followed by excellent tips and techniques.
The crafts are for everything one needs to celebrate a winter holiday, from forests and village buildings to snowflakes, snow people, glitter gnomes and reindeer!
I did think Candy Claus would take a higher skill level and more time than the other projects.
I will be adding this to my wish list for a paper bound version.
I’ll be honest with you, I’m much more of a Halloween person than a Christmas one but when I saw the unique cover of this new festive craft book from Glitterville I couldn’t turn down the chance to review it – any opportunity to discover new craft ideas!
Handmade Christmas features a whole host of completely unique and unusual projects all with their very own distinctive style. Every project is colourful, fun and of course glittery!
Beginning with lots of information on tools and materials as well as a rundown of basic techniques the book seems to be designed to teach methods that can be applied to other projects, encouraging reader’s personal creativity. Each handmade decoration idea that follows comes complete with good quality step-by-step photos in an easy to follow layout. In addition to the tutorials templates and patterns are included in the back section of the book and you won’t be surprised to hear that even these are colourful!
My personal favourite ideas from the book would probably have to be the Jolly Dolly Holly Wreath (made entirely from felt), and the Tiny Tannenbaums & Present Picks (decorative cake toppers that stand out beautifully against the white icing backdrop). The Glitter Village (as pictured on the bottom left of the book's cover) was also an impressive and detailed project.
The originality of the ideas found within this book really stood out to me and I loved how different it was from other Christmas craft books I’ve read. If you’re a big fan of this holiday and are looking to branch out from the average Christmas project into something a little more ambitious and bold this truly unique book could be perfect for you!
‘tis the season to be jolly and begin decorating for Christmas! Glitterville’s Handmade Christmas has some wonderful projects to adorn your home for the holidays or give as great handmade presents to friends, family and co-workers.
There is nothing more frustrating than following a do-it-yourself tutorial only to have an important step overlooked or explained incorrectly leaving me to make up it up and hoping it turns out ok. This is not the case with this craft book! What I liked most about this book were the detailed instructions and vivid photographs that are truly helpful and explain step-by-step how to make the projects. The list of materials and tools in the beginning are comprehensive and explain why the creator uses the items listed.
Some of the projects seem a bit advanced for the youngest of children, but there are many that can be done with supervision making it a family affair. And the best part, the designs can easily be adapted to make ornaments or decorate presents. The templates for each project are at the back of the book and the ideas are endless with a little imagination.
Want to make your Christmas decorations sparkle? For the crafty individual this book is a perfect solution! Brown has created a wonderland of Christmas decor. In this book, he inspires crafters by walking them through 20 of his creations and the skills needed to design their own. The step by step instructions are enhanced by colorful pictures and templates.
I absolutely loved this book! I remember Stephen Brown from the craft challenge show he did with Tori Spelling a year or so back and knew his style.
The projects were a great blend of craftsmanship and whimsy...some were a little beyond my supplies and talents, but they showed me techniques that I could apply elsewhere.
The photography was spot on and really aided the instructions and I loved how full of personality the text was.
My favorite project? The pinecone gnomes, by far!
What a unique and beautiful book! I loved the craft projects that were featured - especially the "Jolly Dolly Holly Wreath" and the "Glittered Baubles" - so cute! All of the color pictures and clear instructions make the steps easy to follow. And all of the templates and patterns are included.
While I am not a fan of glitter myself, I must say this book made me want to do a lot of glitter projects. It is jammed packed with great craft ideas and great pictures. The projects are easy to do and fun filled. This is a fabulous craft book!
A great handmade Christmas book filled with fun projects most of which don't require too many specialized products. I especially love the Glitter Village and Sparkle Forest!
Very very cute! This is one of the funner craft books I've read for a while. I MUST own this! I love the techniques, which are a bit different than your typical craft book. I love the use of the paper clay (fantastic stuff!) and of course GLITTER! Too fun! I think my house will be full of cute stripped bottlebrush trees next year.
Beautiful book with a handfull of ideas for the crafters lovers. I just love the simple diy tutorials and how good and professional is the end result. Beautiful layout and illustration photos. A keeper.
Great book with lots of sparkly gorgeousness to make both with children and without. I'll definitely be making from this one for years to come!
Every year my family and I make Christmas ornaments for our tree (it’s our holiday tradition), so I’m always on the lookout for craft ideas that will make pretty ornaments, but won’t break the bank and are simple enough that everyone can do them, even the kiddies. When I first saw this book I thought the crafts looked amazingly beautiful and fun (and so so sparkly – I’m a girl who love love loves her some sparkles), but they also looked complicated and expensive to make and I didn’t think it would be something for the whole family – I’m happy to say that I was wrong. Glitterville’s Handmade Christmas is full of wonderful ideas that are not only fun and sparkly, but also surprisingly easy and super affordable to make!
This how-to holiday craft guide provides easy to follow step-by-step written instructions accompanied by gorgeous, full-colored simple-to-follow illustrative pictures, making these wonderful crafts do-able for even the beginner crafter (some are a bit harder, but still very do-able, even for me and Christmas is pretty much the only time of the year when I feel crafty). The back of the book also has some very useful patterns to make things that much easier.
My family and I ended up making the Ginger Cookie Kids as ornaments and they came out looking fantastic. The adults and kids had a blast making them, they barely cost anything to make (all you need for that particular project is styrofoam, craft paint, glue, and some different colored felts) and they look so pretty on the tree. I absolutely recommend this craft guide to anyone, from beginner crafters to advanced, who wants to add a personal touch of sparkle and fun to their holiday season. I’m holding on to this book and will treasure it as a valuable holiday crafting resource for the years to come – I’m already eyeing the Pinecone Gnomes for next year.
