I really liked the premise of this story. We have a cop (hero) and journalist (heroine) who share a past and it isn't exactly pretty. First you have the whole cop/journalist dynamic which from everything I've read or seen on TV, these two things don't mix well. Then you add the added turmoil of said journalist breaking said cop's trust in the past .... that's unique and makes for an interesting story, if told well. And it was! That's all you get for plot because if you aren't interested in the story from the blurb, I'm not going to give it away to you! lol But I promise you won't be disappointed!
This was my first nook by Mallory Kane and I didn't know what to expect as far as style and content and I've learned to keep on open mind when trying out new authors. Mallory Kane's writing is vivid and descriptive; the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat and the romance is steamy hot. however, the mystery/suspense part of this story is frontal to the romance. That is not normally my preference, but I still enjoyed this book a lot! I look forward to more from Mallory Kane!

Detective Devereux Gautier is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The homeless kids he’s been helping are being murdered, one by one. The one person who can help him is the one person he has vowed never to trust. Journalist Reghan Connor has proven that heroes do not exist – she threw Devereeux under the bus to do do it. But now she has information that could help him track down the killer that has been terrorizing New Orleans. Can she convince him that this time, she’s on the level?
A steamy romantic suspense story set in exotic New Orleans. Yummy
Police Det. Devereux Gautier finds out the homeless kids he mentors are dying and the only person who can help him find the killer is the woman who dug up his past to destroy him. Dev needs her help to solve the case, but he can’t trust her and he can't trust himself around her, because she's the sexiest, most intelligent woman he's ever met.

Very atmospheric mystery/romance, although I did guess who the 'baddie' was quite early on, think the author have it away a little bit.
Good storyline, with a balance between romance and mystery. Liked the descriptions of New Orleans and could feel the heat rising as I was reading!
Reghan is an investigative reporter who because of some daddy issues and getting burned by a man she was dating turning out to be married, likes to bust people on live t.v. for any hidden sordid past deeds. Dev is a police detective with a street kid past who ended up making good with the help of a fatherly cop mentor. When the two meet up there is instant chemistry but with a little digging Reghan finds out Dev is wanted for the murder of his stepfather that occurred many years ago. Reghan confronts him on live t.v. and needless to say Dev is not a happy camper with her and any relationship they start to have is kaput. Fast forward a couple months, Reghan has information about murders occurring that interestingly have a lot to do with Dev. There is a lot of mistrust but also a lot of chemistry as Reghan and Dev work together to try and solve the case.
This was the first book I have ever read from this author and I have to say I was really impressed. The writing is very descriptive, to the point I could easily see the scene as I read it. There is romance in the story but it almost takes a backseat to the suspense/murder arc. It's a very gritty story; if you like Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard then you definitely want to read this. No Hero is a very quick read as the story keeps you in its grip as it rolls along. The sexual tension between Reghan and Dev is hot but I did feel a little shorted on the sex scenes, maybe I'm just a pervert though.
Dev and Reghan are great solid characters. Reghan could annoy you with her major distrust issues but Dev you're going to want to eat up with a spoon with his dominating protective side. They work well together and apart each having interesting details that keep you invested in their story. There were at times I felt the writing got a little repetitive and the ending with them falling in love was rushed, they spend the majority of the book being growly, then warming up, and then suddenly together. The anticipation was excellent, the eventually payoff, not so satisfying.
Even with what I thought didn't work well with the story, there is a lot that did work well and it's enough for me to recommend this book. Again, if you are a fan of Linda Howard's writing and grittier suspense with some romance then this is for you. I'll definitely be giving this author another try.
This story took a hold of me from the page one, and kept it till 'the end', it is addictive and well written. Mallory Kane is a new author for me, and this will not be the last book I read by her!
The connection between Dev and Reghan is complex, the attraction and pull towards each other is tinted with distrust and leeriness from the past actions and experiences.
While Dev is trying to protect Reghan from the threats and malice, they have to work together and learn to trust each other, despite their history, to survive and save others from the serial killer. Dev didn't believe in love because of his childhood, Reghan had lost her faith in heroes, because of her past. When their eyes open to see the true self in each other, behind all the walls they had build, they find a connection that is true, genuine, and passionate.
The mystery of the killer who attacks towards people Dev care about, was intense with several surprise elements in the plot. And even though I did figure out pretty early on, who might be the culprit, the suspense of the story kept the interest high.
Truly engaging storyline with intriguing setting, highly recommended with four big spoons and one tea spoon for a good measure!
A very well-developed story. The characters were true to life and loved it.
Loved a good romantic suspense and this one was well written and definitely held my attention. Wonderful story
Full of mystery, suspense, intrigue! Add a dash of romance and ta da!
Great story. I was surprised on the identity of the killer.
Love the suspense with Romance tossed in. Good ending. Keeps you on your toes.
Devereux Gautier and Reghan Connor are on the opposite side of the police line. He is a detective and she is a journalist. But though they are on each other cross hairs, there is chemistry between them that cannot be denied.
In the beginning, Reghan believed that it was her helping Dev both on professional and personal levels. But, the tables were turned when Reghan was attacked. Now, it was Dev trying to keep Reghan safe.
“No Hero” is a fast-paced romantic thriller that will keep you on the guessing and on the edge of your seat. The book is Rated M for Mature due to violence.
REVIEW: NO HERO by Mallory Kane Non-stop action, surprises, and sensual tension fuel this intriguing romantic suspense mystery, set in lovely but often worn-out New Orleans. Some vicious killer has targeted at-risk teens. Many stay at a hostel program at which Detective Gautier mentors. Some consider him a hero, but not his former girlfriend, who provided an expose on his exploits, and now must reunite with the man she scorns before many more troubled adolescents are murdered.
I love stories that are set in New Orleans. The atmosphere of that one of a kind city provides just the right touch of magic and mystery no matter the genre. Mallory Kane does a wonderful job with this suspense tale full of twists and turns as Detective Dev Gautier is on the hunt for the murderer of homeless teens who he knows and mentors personally. Reghan is a reporter on the scent of a story and she has more than butted heads with Dev before. At first, you won't like Reghan very much. She is whats wrong with with modern journalism, reporting on things that are black and white but never seeing the gray areas, or the damage it can do. The killer leaves clues that force Reghan and Dev to join forces as they must hurry and find him before more kids are killed. Dev and Reghan have a hard time fighting the attraction between them, but they make a good team and each learns things that help them grow closer in spite of their past meeting. Ms Kane does a great job here with this story and I am looking forward to her next.
No Hero by Mallory Kane was a fast paced story that had me hooked from the beginning. Detective Deveraux's past was exposed by Reghan and it almost cost him his job and everything he cares about, so when she comes to him about a case he's working on he wants nothing to do with her. Reghan is a reporter who enjoys proving that there are no true heroes out there. She comes to him with a clue as to who is targeting the people Dev cares about and killing them, but she becomes the target of the killer so Dev has to protect her. I enjoyed this story because despite Dev being hurt by Reghan in the past, he took her lead on the case seriously and protected her when she was in danger. Their connection was strong enough to be believable while not overpowering the mystery aspect of the story. I had trouble putting this book down and recommend it to those who like mystery and romance. It gets 4 stars and I will probably read it again.
Overall a pretty good story, although I did figure out the killer about half way through.
I enjoyed this story between Reghan and Dev, two adversaries who end up falling for one another. These two characters were great, and I really enjoyed the storyline. The mystery kept me guessing for quite awhile, and I really enjoyed the balance of romance and suspense. This is the first book I've read by the author, but I'll be looking for more.
