Description

The first Mutts collection in the AMP! Comics for Kids series!

The beloved characters in Mutts have a special appeal to kids. The warm humor and friendship between unlikely characters create a special blend. Earl is a small mutt with a big heart who cheerfully tugs at the leash on the walk of life. Earl is Mooch the cat's innocent friend, as well as a witness to Mooch's antics, and is sometimes a reluctant participant. Mooch has a fuzzy way of thinking and exclaiming "Yesh!" when really excited. Lively, animated, confident, and silly, Mooch is a smorgasbord of emotions who dances with enthusiasm and sings a lot. Mooch is the curious instigator of action, while the ever-loyal Earl often gets pulled into the fray.

Created in 1994, Mutts appears in more than 700 newspapers and in 20 countries. McDonnell has received numerous awards for this strip, including the National Cartoonists Society's highest honor, The Reuben, for Cartoonist of the Year, six Harvey Awards for Best Comic Strip, Germany's Max and Moritz Award for Best International Comic Strip, and the Swedish Academy of Comic Art's Adamson Statuette. Mutts has also won awards for its environmental and animal advocacy, including two Genesis Awards from The Ark Trust, The HSUS Hollywood Genesis Award for Ongoing Commitment, the PETA Humanitarian Award, and a Sierra Club award.

Mutts is my favorite comic strip. Comic strips have the potential to be much more than jokes with pictures and Mutts lives up to that potential. The characters can make me laugh or sigh or think. This is a perfect comic for kids. The strips are simple, but have big concepts that can be understood on more than one level. So beginning readers will be able to understand them now and see them in a different way when they are older. I will definitely recommend this book!

The Mutts are just too sweet, especially with the awareness the author brings to shelter animals and animals that are tied up outdoors. I've never found the squirrels that funny, but the rest of the delightful cartoons make up for that. This is a short little collection, perfect for those who want to start slowly to see whether they enjoy (if you love dogs and cats, you will).

I enjoyed this. I liked how it was arranged by character, rather than strictly by date, like most comic strip books are likely to do.

The Mutts Diaries is filled with lots of wordplays and just lots of fun comics. I certainly enjoyed the time I spent with the book even though it didnt take long to read it.
You follow a cast of animals (and a few humans) who are often just up to nothing or random shenanigans like a squirrel-couple that keeps throwing nuts and other stuff at the cat and dog.

This is a title I can recommend if you like silly word puns or just a really good comic. And a title I am thinking about buying because I would love to read it again later.

I haven't read the Mutts in years. This comic is laid out as if drawn on notebook paper (apparently a big thing these days). The animals are as sweet, cute and funny as ever.

I was provided this book by the publisher for an honest review. It is good to see that some things that have been around a while still touch the hearts if animal lovers. I love pets and found these comics very funny & also containing a lot of truth. Very funny read.

Patrick McDonnell has created a charming world where a dog and cat are best friends, squirrels love to bonk everyone, man and beast. on the head with nuts, and the assorted other whimsical characters provide a gentle smile on a daily basis.
Mooch, Earl, Sourpuss, Guard Dog- they all see the world with their own spin. The humour is sweet and kind and just right for kids or those of us who are young at heart.
My odds on favourite story line though is Shelter Stories. Many times I see some of the strips on the walls of the shelter where I volunteer weekly. The bittersweet tales hit the penultimate heights with Chickpea and Chickpea's Brother. It is easy to imagine that the kittens who charm us are probably thinking what these kitties express. Watching the strip progress to adoption is filled with smiles and a little bit of mist in the eyes.
It is no surprise this has been a well loved strip since 1984. Charles Shultz has a worthy successor.

I must admit that I never knew the Mutts before this book... Oh, what have I been missing all these years!!! I absolutely loved every inch of the book. I would recommend it to anyone, young and old (both in age and at heart). Great layout!!!

Knowing that our two grandsons were coming to stay for the weekend, I loaded the book onto the iPad and had what I thought was going to be a quick 5 minute check that it was suitable for an 8 and a 5.5 year old. Hah! An hour later I was in the kitchen making another pot of tea with one hand, smiling at the screen with the other, an absolute McDonnell fan.

On the boys' first night I made a jug of hot chocolate & a tray of sultana cookies and we snuggled down in our pyjamas for what turned out to be a hugely enjoyable time laughing at the various cartoons. The 5 year old might not have understood all of the jokes but there are more than enough to keep him happy (and of course, he wants to keep up with his big brother so he wouldn't confess to not understanding them anyway!).

It's a small point maybe but I love that the pages appear to be written in a lined notepad - both boys spent most of Saturday drawing cartoons on their own lined notepads. I'd like to say that we might have a new best-selling cartoonist in the family but nope, I think Mr McDonnell's status is safe for a while yet :-)

Hugely recommended for all age groups, especially animal lovers. Both boys have requested more books by the author for Christmas and birthdays - a huge success all round!

The Mutts Diaries by Patrick McDonnell

I love reading the Mutt's comics each day. When I had a chance to read a collection of them, I jumped in!

Andrew McMeel Publishing and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published October 7th, so check with your bookstore for a copy then.

Mutt and Mooch are two sweet characters. Mooch speaks with a lisp and is a typical cat. Mutt lives for pets by his master. They have all kinds of other animal characters for friends.

I really like how this book is put together. You have a diary of jokes from everyone. Even Crabby has own segment!

These are the same silly sweet jokes you get in a daily email all compiled in a collection for you. You can't go wrong. If you have never met Mutt or Mooch yet, you have a real treat coming.

Hugs and Humor: An Unbeatable Pairing.

I loved this book. The Mutts Diaries is a collection of numerous Mutts comics, formatted with a notebook paper background, and grouped by character, so you’ll see Mooch's Diary, Earl's Diary, Shtinky's Diary, etc. I really liked this because your child can go straight to the “diary” of his or her favorite character first. The adventures of Mooch, Earl, and friends, are loaded with some laugh-out-loud moments (yes, even for this adult), some cute and sweet moments, as well as some groaners - the kind my kids always enjoyed. Best of all, this collection advocates hugs and pet adoption. Hard to beat such a fun book with such a big heart.

I know, I know this is supposed to be a book that appeals to kids; however, I'm sure I enjoyed it as much as any child would. I plan to buy a copy for my mom to give to her at Christmas because at 78, she is a big fan of this comic.

The comic strip has been around since 1994 and features Earl, a dog, and his friend Mooch, a cat. Mooch is the animal of action in this series--a good fit I think since what self-respecting cat would tag along after a dog. Earl is Mooch's faithful friend and often gets pulled into doing things he might not have planned to do.

Add a little humor to the daily grind and buy this book for yourself and get an extra copy for a grown-up (or even a child).

The Mutts are a variety of different cartoon creatures and this is a collection of their diaries. Anyone who loves animals and funny comics will find this hilarious! There are diaries by dogs (Earl and Guard Dog), cats and kittens (Mooch, Sour Puss, Shtinky Pudding and the twin kittens Chickpea and Chickpea's brother), a nasty tempered crab called Crabby who keeps using bad language that you can't read and a couple of squirrels, Bip and Bop, who enjoy throwing nuts at other characters!

Wonderfully illustrated and highly entertaining, this will delight children and adults alike and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it!

'The Mutts Diaries' by Patrick McDonnell is a great collection of comic strips for kids. I found myself liking it quite a bit as well.

Every character gets a chapter, but the characters are featured throughout. Cat Mooch and his best friend Earl. Bip and Bop are two squirrels that like pelting people on the head with nuts (among other things). Guard Dog, Crabby, Shtinky Puddin' and Chickpea and Chickpea's brother are also featured. Comic strip themes include vacations, life in the pound, having an owner, what each character would teach in school. The strips are silly and sometimes poignant.

It's a quick read, but the kind of thing I loved as a kid. I remember reading Nancy and Sluggo, Peanuts, Garfield and Bloom County. The drawings are simple but pretty adorable. The only character that seems a bit out of place in a kids collection is Crabby, who can't seem to make a sentence without a cuss word in it. Words are substituted by characters (#$%!*), but I still found it less funny for a kid's book. Other than that, I enjoyed this collection a lot.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this fun ebook.

I loved this book. I have always loved the comic strip and loved that they highlighted different characters in a chapter format. I can see my middle schoolers enjoying it.
