Description
Learn about inspiring story of David Beckham! The much-loved British soccer player who grew up dreaming of scoring goals for his favorite team.
Little David always knew that he wanted to be a soccer player. Growing up, he and his family supported the British team Manchester United, and he dreamed of being part of their squad. He spent years playing for local clubs and joined Manchester United’s youth academy as a teen. After entering the first team under the leadership of Alex Ferguson, it soon became clear that David was a star on the field.
With Manchester United, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League all in one season, a pioneering feat! He went on to become captain of the England team and a hero to people across his country. Away from the pitch, David had fallen in love with Victoria, a successful singer. They got married and everyone became obsessed with their love story!
When he left Manchester United, David, Victoria and their children moved to Spain, and he played for Real Madrid as part of a superstar squad. Soccer continued to take him around the world – to LA in California, and back again to Europe. When it came to retire from playing, David couldn’t keep away from the beautiful game. He helped to start a new team, Inter Miami CF, in Florida, elevating the sport in the U.S.
A soccer legend who is loved by all, David’s achievements are the culmination of a lifetime of hard work and talent.
This powerful book features quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the soccer player's life.

This is one of the cutest books in the series. The pictures are adorable, and the text is perfect for small children. What an inspiring story of a little boy who worked hard and practiced so he could play on his favorite team, only to grow up and be one of the greatest soccer players ever!
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
I love this series and this was no different! Love hearing about David Beckham's rise to fame and all the other things he did in the football world! The perfect book for football kids or sports kids to read, or just people curious about whats the deal with Beckham!
I'm a huge fan of the Little People, Big Dreams series, and the book about David Beckham is no exception. Wonderfully written and illustrated, this biography is ideal for children and adults alike.
I was surprised to receive an ARC of this latest title in the marvellous Little People, Big Dreams series, David Beckham as I felt certain he would already have already had his own book in this collection. I am grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for making this copy available to me ahead of its publication.
Never a fan of Man Utd myself but a supporter of my national team I have followed David’s career in football all my adult life. I was keen therefore to share his life and achievements with my grandchildren and happy to provide a honest review of the book subsequently.
The book surprised me in part, as there is so much in such a successful career to cover. The skill of the author is again evident in her highlighting the important aspects. Supported by careful illustrations and use of colour.
I read of his desire and longstanding dream to play football for his beloved Manchester United. His dedication in listening; to improve his skills through practice and teamwork. Many a child has and will continue to aspire for such ambitions. As demonstrated in these few pages, what has always struck me is that Beckham has retained humility and a love for the game.
It is an inspirational account of success and disappointment along the way.
I was pleased there was a mention of his petulant dismissal in the World Cup that may have ended England’s chances in that competition. It points indirectly to the resilience and highlights a fortitude of character to overcome and work through difficult times. His redemption was found in playing for his club and the support of his teammates and later for me, through a special free kick close to the final whistle.
He has always put so much back into the game he loves and that passion chimes throughout these pages.
I hope that when you get a chance to read it you will recall some special times from his career and be rewarded by a new generation, like my grandkids, finding motivation and desire to fulfil their own potential.
I always enjoy reading books from this series with my son. However the series is very obviously written by/for the American market as thorough out the book the game is called soccer and David hangs up his cleats rather than his boots at the end of his career.
The illustrations are super cute! Learned about David Beckham today. I think fans of David Beckham and football will enjoy this, and it would make a good gift for young football/ soccer players. This would also be a cute baby shower gift! I just love these mini biographies!
Love him or not, all football fans, and most of the rest of the country, know who David Beckham is. The Manchester United legend and ex-England captain, has always been in it to win it, and this book shines a light on his dogged determination to succeed. His marriage to Victoria Adams, a member of one of the most famous pop groups on the planet, his brush with infamy after his sending off in the World Cup against Argentina, and his co-ownership of the MLS team, Inter Miami CF all played a part in making him the globally admired superstar and sports entrepreneur he is today. This book shows all that in simple prose with relatable illustrations and a short timeline to put things in perspective.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a fun read for younger football fans which is of the usual high standard of this popular children's series.
As a former soccer mom (although once a soccer mom always a soccer mom lol), this name is very familiar to me. David Beckham is someone my kids looked up to, whose career they followed. As a grandma, I love reading the Little People Big dreams books with my older grands and this is one I know they're going to enjoy as they're beginning their soccer life. Full circle! I love the LPBD books, David Beckham is leading by example, the book is interesting, and the illustrations are wonderful.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing and the author for providing me with an advanced reader copy fo review purposes!
I have a little nephew, so naturally, I'm on a quest to find interesting books to gift him. I'm also a football (or soccer depending where you come from) enjoyer, so when I saw this was available I immediately took the opportunity and read it.
This is a very short biography of David Beckham, but it has all the basic facts that might catch the interest of a kid. I really liked the illustrations, they are simple but very cute but also detailed and quite realistic. If you have a kid in your family that enjoys football/soccer, or is a sports enthusiast, this would make a great gift. Little people, big dreams never disappoints!
