Advance Praise

Charles Vail has written an outstanding proposal for a humanist narrative. The author has a methodical approach for revealing current thinking about humanism and its historical progress from the big bang to the present. The essay is at once a scholarly work and a personal journey. I felt carefully guided through the vastness of history with periodic pauses for reflection to see if there was doubt or clarity that would empower the way forward. The writing style is comfortable and, although the in-text citations are numerous, it was easy to stay committed to the journey. I did not feel that this telling of the human story threatens the worldview of theists or atheists because one arrives at the end into a present that is full of possibility. The possibility of glorious life. ~Gene Queval
