I'll admit it; I'm rubbish at this. I couldn't get any of these to fold properly, and I gave up in frustration several times with several different models, but the book itself is great. The instructions are laid out clearly (or as clearly as they ever are with origami!), and the idea of getting to create something completely different like war vehicles is excellent. Even the name is great!
For someone with more experience in origami, I'd imagine this would present an exciting and fun new challenge. Unfortunately that isn't quite me yet!
What an awesome and original book, Not really suitable for the beginner but fun for the more experienced .
This book is super cool. Our town was a former Air Force base and many of my friends worked on various important planes. This is excellent materials for fans of paper, paper air planes, and origami.
Clever and entertaining, however my sausage fingers couldn't do justice to the wonderful designs unveiled for me in this twist on a classic craft.
This is a definitely different take on origami! It starts by giving a guide to the key folds used to complete any of the models. The book then goes on to give instructions for creating models of a wide variety of war vehicles, including tanks, jets and missiles, all made using origami. It does suggest using foil as the base for making them and I suspect this is crucial to getting the more detailed folds and constructions completed accurately. There are annotated diagrams giving detailed step by step instructions, including how to fix the missiles to other models making them more fun to play with and not just models. Different sizes of base papers/foils are needed but the instructions make it clear just what will be needed to complete each one. Guidance is also provided on how to decorate the models to make them even more realistic and photographs of completed models are shared to inspire the reader to have a go!
Whilst the instructions may be too complex for total beginners, they are very detailed and clear so, with patience and resilience, most reasonably dexterous readers should be able to complete them to a good standard. A definitely different book which will be of particular interest to anyone keen on war vehicles who is also willing to have a go at this craft.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a treat this book was! Really enjoyed the charming title as well.
It's well written and very clear for even the most beginner origami fan to follow. Highly recommend this book if you enjoy origami. Some of the projects are quite advanced but the author does a great job at keeping them accessible to all levels.
One note: some of the project pages have textured/colored backgrounds that made it a bit of a chore to read the text on a tablet (iPad)
