What a great, drooliscious book!
I honestly thought it was going to describe all types of pasta (a bit disappointed it didn't), but it turned out to be a great recipe book that teaches you the basics of making pasta. I've made homemade pasta/sauce before, but this is a great reference guide. The recipes are easy, simple to follow, the photos are amazing and I'd most-likely give this as a gift to a beginner cook for sure. It's on the simple side for me personally, but I really appreciated the chance to review it and I will definitely include some of it's techniques!
I've not specifically looked at other, strictly pasta cookbooks, but as for me---this is a pasta "bible" especially for a beginner
The author starts out very basic, many pictures throughout & I think that even I, might be able to pull off making homemade fresh pasta!!
Only time I've ever had homemade pasta was when going to a locally run Italian restaurant & there's such a difference with all fresh ingredients over boxed & jars etc
He does an excellent job taking it step by somewhat easy step with explanations & pictures that I really think anyone wanting to give real fresh pasta & sauces a try, can do it with this book!
I got a digital copy through net galley. Thank you to imagine publishing , the author for getting a klutz like me excited in making some pasta, & net galley
Beautifully photographed, lots of step-by steps and mouth watering recipes, this is a great book to get you started!!
As the name implies this is a beginnger's guide to making pasta. I found it to be really well done and easy to follow. The author walks you through making your own pastas and sauces and the book includes many different recipes. There is even one substituting eggplant for the noodles. This book is as much an instruction manuel as it is a cookbook. The author takes the reader through the process of making pasta step by step. The instructions are easy to follow, the recipes were varied and the ingredients easy to find. There were photographs of the finished products which were a nice addition to the book. I really enjoyed this one and definitly recommend it if you're interested in making your own pasta.

An indispensable reference guide to all things pasta. Lai takes you step by step, from building your pantry and toolkit to mixing and matching your crafted pasta with accompanying sauces. Gorgeously photographed and easy to follow, 'Pasta: The Beginner's Guide' is a must have for any library.
Pasta: the beginner's guide by: Carlo Lai
Let's get something straight right away. While I'm certainly a beginner when it comes to making pasta, I am definitely an experienced pasta eater. This book was literally written for me. (Well, not literally, it was written for Frank, an American who stated that he loved to eat pasta but could never make it himself, but close enough.) This book walks you through the basics of pasta, from ingredients and tools, to recipes and shaping. This would be an absolutely wonderful book for anyone interested in learning how to make pasta. The recipes included are relatively simple (e.g. Fettuccine Primavera & Fettuccine with Walnut Sauce), but the clear directions and photographs make this a great beginner's book. It would be especially lovely bundled with a pasta machine as a gift.
Note: I received a free eGalley of this book from NetGalley (being a librarian has its perks!)

I love pasta but tend to get stuck in a rut, making the same recipes over and over. This book is great because it offers me a number of delicious alternatives that don't seem to be too difficult to prepare. Also, I've always been afraid to attempt making my own fresh pasta, but this author makes it seem like a much less intimidating process.
