Description
In Daniel Palmer's electrifying, brilliantly plotted new thriller, a private school campus becomes a battleground as a desperate father takes on a terrifying enemy….
When Jake Dent's dreams of baseball glory fell apart in a drunk-driving incident, his marriage did too. In those dark days, a popular survivalist blog helped to restore Jake's sense of control. He's become an avid Doomsday Prepper, raising his diabetic son, Andy, to be ready for any sudden catastrophe.
Andy, now a student at the prestigious Pepperell Academy where Jake works as a custodian, has a secret—he's part of a computer club that redistributes money from the obscenely wealthy to the needy. Usually, their targets don't even realize they've been hacked. But this time, they've stolen from the wrong people: a vicious drug cartel that is coming to get its money back…
Staging a chemical truck spill as a distraction, the cartel infiltrates the Academy, taking Andy and his friends hostage one by one. Jake, hidden inside the school's abandoned tunnels, knows that soon the killing will start. With his training, and a stockpile of weapons and supplies, he's the last, best hope these students—including his son—have of getting out alive. But survival is no longer an abstract concept. It's a violent, brutal struggle that will test Jake to the limit, where there are no rules and no second chances…

PRAISE FOR CONSTANT FEAR:
“Extraordinary character development and more than a few bombshell plot twists will keep readers turning the pages.” – Publishers Weekly
“Palmer examines the steps parents will take to ensure the security of their kids in his latest thriller. He gives a familiar story a fresh spin with compelling characters and a protagonist who usually would be portrayed as the villain. Readers will care about everyone, and grimace and sweat with every tense scene. Palmer’s thrillers involving family dynamics are terrific, and this one is no exception .”– RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars
“Palmer takes a straightforward kidnapping story and turns it into a compelling tale filled with not-so-typical heroes. Setting the action in a high school is risky, but Palmer pulls it off. Fans of Harlan Coben or Linwood Barclay will especially enjoy this one.”– Booklist
“This nail-biting tale is sure to get hearts pumping and bound to be a winner with fans of Greg Iles and Iris Johansen. The author is the son of deceased best-selling medical thriller author Michael Palmer, but he doesn’t need to ride on his father’s coattails. His suspenseful stories, full of twists and turns, are sure to win him a following of his own.” – Library Journal STARRED REVIEW
Praise for DESPERATE
“Palmer burnishes his status as one of today’s best thriller writers with this emotionally gripping and steel-trap plotted standalone. Palmer is so successful at getting readers to invest in Gage that his travails are almost too painful to read about.”
- Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“This is one of those thrillers where you know something is going on, and the writer gives you plenty of clues, but there are still some twists and turns he keeps hidden away until just the right moment. A smartly constructed tale that operates on multiple levels.”
- Booklist
“If you’ve somehow missed reading Daniel Palmer, it’s time to – pardon the pun – get Desperate.”
- Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author
“Unrelentingly suspenseful.”
- Publishers Weekly
“He already exhibits the skills of a master craftsman. Fans of Harlan Coben or Lisa Gardner will adore his look into the lives of an everyday couple.”
- RT Book Reviews
“A twisting, suspenseful chiller of a book.”

REVIEW: CONSTANT FEAR [Chapter 1] by Daniel Palmer
I was enticed by the blurb, but reading Chapter 1 I'm tremendously excited to read the novel. Oh, those underground tunnels! I imagine all sorts of great scenes there! And it's good to read about a father-son prepper team: I read a lot of apocalyptic fiction, and it's good to learn about prepping beforehand. Jake and Andy are intriguing characters, too.
The first chapter of CONSTANT FEAR has left me wanting more. Can't wait until it comes out.
Loved this! A great beginning to what promises to be A bestseller
I was recently given the opportunity to read the first chapter of Constant, the latest novel by Daniel Palmer and I must say that just this short excerpt has got me hooked, hoping that I will get the chance to read the ARC when it becomes available.
Constant starts off with a bang, as Jake and Andy Dent, father and son, prepare for what seems to be an inevitable attack on them from, as of now, an unknown foe. Their bags, survival gear and ammunition are packed and ready and they have fine tuned their escape plan. But who are they escaping from? Who is after them? Lots of mystery, thrills and suspense in just the first chapter bodes well for the rest of the novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an Exclusive First Chapter Copy in exchange for an honest review.
After reading the first chapter that was free, I am hooked on it and want to follow the story line to see why they are having these drills and what the threat is to their lives! It feels like it will be a roller coaster ride full of twists & turns.
I've not read one of this authors books before, I don't know why, maybe its because I've not heard of him until the other day when I saw a book friend reading Trauma.
I realized then I had the first chapter of CONSTANT FEAR from Net Galley to read, so I hoped on that today.
Its a great introduction to this author for me. I was enthralled with his writing. Its really made me want to read the rest of this book.
This is about a Father and son.....
I don't want to spoil anything and lay it all out on the line, just to say, that if the first chapter is anything to go by, how can this get any better.!
I can't wait to read the entire book.
I've read my teaser, I have been thoroughly teased! I want more.
I would like to thank Kensington Books via Net galley for the chance to read and review this
Constant fear is prevalent in this title. with much suspense as drug cartels, computer hackers, thieves, and murderers take center stage. You will not put it down until the last chapter.
The book addresses the strong relationship between father and son in the dynamic Jack (dad) and Andy (team) bond. Due to an accident, Jake has turned to doomsday conspiracies and Andy is unknowing to his father, part of computer club that like modern Robin Hood's redistribute from the wealthy to the poor. One day the club targets the wrong victim, a drug cartel. The cartel takes over the school, and one by one attempts to find the Robin Hood members. Father and son conspires together in an attempt to fight against the bad guys. Constant fear keeps you on your toes and is a gripping read. Roll on the next one!
I finished this book in a day. There was a lot going on to keep you intrigued, and I've already told my fiancé, who's not much of a reader, that he'll want to put this on his summer book list. It's written in a way that it will even be able to keep his attention, which is really saying something! Some of it seems a little convenient or far fetched, but isn't that the fun of reading? I could see this being turned into a fun, action/thriller movie somewhere down the road.
