I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this but I really thought this book was going to be better. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad. It’s just after reading all of the great reviews I thought this was going to just blow me away.

I read a lot of the Highlander books when I was in high school. So it’s been awhile since I have read any of Hannah Howell’s work. What I remember though is that they were so good, I couldn’t put them down.

I might have liked this book more if I had read any of the other books in this series. So I might just be missing something that gave it that amazing spark at the beginning of the book. The spark that begins your book crush, that slowly turns to love by the time you finish.

Most of the characters for me just seemed a little flat, and the best part of the book (revenge on her Aunt) felt like a footnote. It was just so rushed over. Then the author went over how Primrose saved the dog multiple times, and kept bringing up how amazing Primrose’s memory recall is and how shocked she is over and over again that she can’t remember certain painful memories.

One moment I liked Primrose as a character because she stands up for herself, then just a few pages later I don’t want anything to do with her. Bened though, I could just eat with a spoon. He was written very well.

It’s very hard not to love the Vaughn/Wherlocke family. I just love how close they all are. They all have a special gift and have been persecuted and hunted in the past as witches. Overall not a bad book, just not as good as I hoped it would be.

I loved this book - it is my favorite of the Wherlocke series (so far)

Bened is an almost perfect hero AND he has NO illegitimate children, not that that should matter - but it does make a hero seem careless and irresponsible, and robs the heroine of being able to share at least one "first" with the hero.

When Bened and Primrose meet for the first time - Bened feels an instant connection to her. He is determined to rescue Primrose - whether she wants him to or not. Primrose is searching for her missing brother, to let him know their father has passed away and that Simeon is now the new baron and is needed at home.

This is the beginning of an epic road trip romance with a villain who is so evil and ruthless that it is almost scary. Along the way Bened and Primrose meet up with several members of Bened's family and stop in to see Argus and Lorilee, they find a new family member, find Simeon and then visit Modred and Dob. You would think that once they found Simeon that the story would start to wind down - but it doesn't! The action, suspense and romance only get more intense!

The romance between Bened and Primrose was sweet (and steamy), they didn't fall for each other right away despite the instant connection. They were both cautious and almost timid about their feelings. But once they came together - WOW! Towards the end, Bened becomes an idiot and almost loses the love of a lifetime. Thankfully, he realized his mistake quickly and immediately made things right.

My only complaints with the book are: One - it wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly and Two - I felt like I was left hanging with Lilybet and Simeon. Other than those two things, it was nearly perfect. Well written, the plot was interesting and flowed wonderfully, the love scenes were steamy, the characters likable, the villain was vile and the ending was happy - what more could you want?? I would most definitely recommend this book. It is not necessary to read the other books in the series to follow this story - but reading them will help you understand the family's "gifts" and make you familiar with some of the characters you meet in this book.

OMG I can not believe that I had actually forgotten how much I love reading Hannah Howell’s books, especially the Wherlocke series. I feel like I have been reunited with old friends as I try to remember all the books that came before this one. Might even have a re-read of the series to get a refresher course of all things Wherlocke.

Even though this is part of an on going historical romance series each book is a standalone novel. Other characters from the series might get brought into each other’s stories but just in minor roles.

This story revolves around Primrose and Bened, who stumble upon each other out in the woods. Stumble being literally as Primrose has misplaced her glasses so can’t quite see where she is going as she stumbles into Bened’s path. His first thoughts are how adorable she looks, right up until she aims a pistol at his heart.

Primrose is on a mission to find her wayward brother after the suspicious death of her father the Baron. She fears for his life, and her own, as she escapes the clutches of her aunt Augusta. She can see her for the cold-hearted women she is but throughout her journey she will see just how evil the woman has become. Bened can see that Primrose is on some kind of mission and not liking that she is on the road by herself he decides to accompany her to keep her safe. Bened is the perfect person for her to have come across, as he is an excellent tracker – something to do with one of his gifts. Bened, like so many of his family, has a gift – his being the ability to track anyone anywhere – and to begin with he fears that Primrose might shy away from him because of it. But Primrose has always had an inquisitive mind and looks to find answers in things that can’t be easily explained. So she would never fear him, if anything this just makes him that much more interesting to be with.

The journey this takes them on is filled with danger and a lot of risk. It becomes clear that Augusta will stop at nothing to get what she wants – power and wealth – and the only way to do that it to rid herself of Primrose and Simeon so her husband can take the title of Baron. The dangers that Primrose and Bened get caught up in bring them closer together with the amount of time they spend together travelling. The romance slowly builds throughout this story, like so many of her others, but each in their own way. The connection and chemistry between Primrose and Bened is seen right from the start and just builds and builds right up to the end.

I love how even though the main focus of the story is on Primrose and Bened’s romance you can see the start of something between Simeon and Lilybet. This may be the making of another book I think – if so I can’t wait to read it! Lilybet knows just the right buttons to push Simeon and if, but mostly I’m hoping when, they come together it will be explosive.

This is a gripping adventure story that will hold your attention from the first page right up until the last. Simply put a great story and one I would happily read again and again (along with the rest of the series!) so enjoy.

There are a few Authors I follow and Hannah Howell is one of them. I get excited when I find out they are coming out with a new book because I know it will be a new adventure for me to participate ( jn my mind only of course!) in. Of course, being an author I follow doesn't mean I automatically will love the book either. No one is perfect.

That is not the case here......I LOVED this book!! It's very hard not to love the Vaughn/Bened family. They all have a special gift and have been persecuted in the past as witches, which they are not. So all paper trails have been destroyed. Though most of the family is together, there are bound to be some that slipped through.

Primrose is out searching for her brother Simeon. Her father has died and she doesn't know if he knows he is now the Baron. There is another reason too, her Aunt & Uncle have moved into the house and are ready to take over.

Her Uncle, Rufford, is a gambler and his brother took he and his wife in when Rufford lost all. He gave them their own house on the grounds. Rufford thinks of nothing but gambling but Augusta, his wife, wants more. She wants it all. She had actually tried to marry Primroses father but then he fell in love with her mother and Augusta ended up marrying Rufford, the second son. So she feels she has been cheated and she will have it all, even if it means killing the heirs and anyone else standing in her way.

Sir Bened Vaughn meets up with Primrose one evening, she has fallen off her horse and is looking for her glasses. They talk for awhile and he decides he must help her find her brother because he can feel that there is more going on than she is telling.

Will Primrose find her brother and get their home back? Will Bened and Primrose succumb to each others charms?

I think what makes the Vaughn/Wherelocks such a great series is that they are such a humble and noble family. They use their gifts for the good and don't exploit people. They are loyal to their own and there is a saying that "when you hurt one Vaughn/Wherelock, you hurt all of them".

Bened and Primrose are attracted to one another and neither is really looking for a partner. They like the qualities of one another so much that their feelings evolve fast without them even realizing it. Bened has a title now, which was awarded to him after a selfless deed, and some land but he feels he is not good enough for Primrose since he was not born into that title. His family talk to him about his feelings but he isn't listening. Hopefully he will before it is too late.

So, here I sit waiting for another Vaughn/Wherelock novel. I will be patient though because Hannah needs time to work her magic!

Bened really fits the title, because he is a noble, good man and his story deserves to be read!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!

So I've loved Hannah Howell since reading The Highland Bride and I have loved every book of hers since the first and If he's noble is no different. In all of Hannah'sbooks there are elements of the paranormal with characters in the books having paranormal gifts and the Wherlocke/Vaughn family are full of gifted individuals this is Bened story he is the Vaughn everyone turns to for protection he knows when danger is near and always finds what he searches for. His gift has finally begun to pay off having protected an Earls son he has been Knighted and gifted a castle. while on his way to inspect his windfall he comes across Primrose wandering the Forrest having been bucked of her horse. All is not how it seems though as Primrose hunts the Forrest for her brother Simeon while staying 2 steps ahead of murderous relatives intent on stealing Primrose and Simeons birthright. 5* I would definitely suggest to any readers that they read the other books in the Wherlocke and Vaughn series prior to beginning if he's noble however there is no real need as the story is a standalone despite being part of the series.

A welcome edition to the Wherlocke/Vaughn series by Howell. She has created a unique family and set them in historical romance creating a paranormal/ historical romance hybrid that is quite unique and delightful. No need for library patrons to read the series in order the author does an excellent job of crafting each book to be a standalone and giving you enough information in a seamless way that you understand the background of the family and their connections. This is a great series to have in a library collection for REader's Advisory services.
