Death of an Airman features one of the most intricate and cleverly devised murders I have ever encountered. Christopher St John Sprigg wrote only a handful of mysteries over the course of his brief life. For over 80 years only a small number of collectors have had the opportunity to read this author that Dorothy Sayers (the accomplished author of the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries) so highly praised. Now, Death of an Airman is available for modern mystery lovers to enjoy.
Edwin Marriott, the Bishop of Cootamundra goes to Baston airfield to learn how to fly. When a talented pilot dies as a result of an unexpected crash, the Bishop is amongst the first at the scene. The inquest rules death my misadventure, but the Bishop is suspicious, as is Inspector Creighton and Inspector Bray of Scotland Yard. Was the death an accident, suicide, or a seemingly impossible murder?
The complexity of the mystery amazes, as does the excellent way in which Sprigg takes advantage of human psychology. Many modern mysteries are simplistic by comparison. The cerebral puzzle combined with the Bishop's appealing nature makes Death of an Airman a highly satisfying read.
Death of an Airman is available for preorder and will be released August 4, 2015.

I am thrilled by these British Crime classics are been made available again. I had not heard of Christopher St.John Sprigg before which is a pity, as I missed out on this fantastic mystery for too long - I certainly will be searching for more of books by him in the future. All these book are so well written, the language is fun and the characters development is spot on. I also like that it is not only a mystery book but the book opens a window in history for me. They are just a pleasure to read.
