Description
Cammie Laroux is back in Alabama—again.
Dragged back to her small town to help her mother recover from surgery while rescuing the family event planning business should be a cinch. Even for a disgraced television chef, right? Wrong.
Among the many secrets Cammie’s family’s been hiding is the fact that their historic home is falling down. Oh, and the man hired to restore the house, Grey Harrison, is the same high school and college love of her life who thrashed her heart and dreams ten years ago. Yeah, that guy.
Grey, a widower with a young daughter, has never stopped loving Cammie, and when they are face to face once again, the chemistry is off the charts. Cammie may be in full-blown denial, but letting go is no longer in Grey’s vocabulary, even when winning Cammie’s forgiveness and renovating their love may seem like an impossible build even for a master architect and carpenter.
As Cammie finds herself forgetting all the reasons she can’t trust Grey or love again, he finds himself remembering all the reasons he wants her to stay with him in Alabama… forever.

I did enjoy this story although I identified much more with Cammie than Grey. I wanted them to get back together but felt like Grey needed to suffer more to get there.
Again, Alabama is Susan Sands debut novel and it's a good one. It is a very well written and professionally edited Southern, small town romance. There were some proofreading errors, but since the copy I read is an ARC, they were not factored into my rating.
While the plot was one I have seen before in small town romance novels, the author managed to make it feel new and exciting. The conflict in the plot was handled beautifully.
The characters were nicely developed and (Lordy, thank you) they acted like mature adults that have their priorities straight. The secondary characters were interesting and varied. My only complaint is that I would have liked to see more interaction between the heroine and the Hero's daughter.
At this time Again, Alabama is a standalone novel, but I hope the author writes a series based on the town and characters.
ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley.
Cammie Laroux has returned to Alabama to help her mother recover from surgery and to keep the family event planning business running. It’s better than staying where she was- that whole TV chef thing was a total bust. When she gets home, she learns that the family home is on the verge of collapse and begins to look for someone to help fix it up. That guy turns out to be the only man she ever really love, the one who dumped her and broke her heart years ago. Grey Harrison is now raising his daughter alone, being a single parent is hard work, he really doesn’t have time for a relationship, but he’s never stopped loving Cammie. It doesn’t matter, because she’s made it clear she will never forgive him. So why does he suddenly want her to stay right where she is –in Alabama?
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and frankly, I was surprised to hear that it is Ms. Sands' first novel. The plot held my interest and the characters were well developed. Cammie has a few siblings and I am thinking this may be the start of a series for this author. If that is the case I will definitely be reading more from her. I highly recommend this book.
What a sweet story that has several story lines & covers years of passion & hurt. A story filled with passion, misunderstandings, betrayals. & love. The truth finally comes out and love can finally shine.
Dreams can come true!
Cammie Laroux left her home and family ten years ago and has only visited fleetingly since her high school sweetheart, Grey Harrison, cheated on her with her best friend. That friend is now dead but she’s managed to avoid seeing him since their breakup and never discussed it with him in all that time. Now she’s returning home after a fiasco on the televised cookery show she worked on and notoriety for setting her fellow chef on fire whilst filming! That isn’t why she’s coming home though, that’s because her family need her to help look after their Mum who is having a spinal operation and to keep their family events business running successfully. Returning home uncovers some unexpected surprises for Cammie - one is that their family home is in dire need of urgent repairs and the other is that the person repairing it is none other than Grey Harrison!
Grey has never stopped loving Cammie, but she’s understandably reluctant to open herself up to further heartbreak. He’s also got his daughter, Sammie, to consider. However, the chemistry is still there and Grey is determined not to let her get away this time! With more family secrets about to be revealed, offers in the pipeline and an emotional child involved, this won’t be a straightforward romance for anyone involved.
This is a story with complex events from the past having significant and long last effects on the future of everyone concerned. It is a lovely book to escape into as the author takes the reader into this virtual world making it easy to empathise with the characters and relate to their motivations and experiences. A great read!
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too,
for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Again, Alabama has quite a few tropes that I like to read about in my contemporary romance. Specifically the "going home again" and "second chances" always a favorite of mine.
Cammie Laroux comes home to Ministry, Alabama after a humiliating experience on her Food Network-type television show. She hopes to hunker down while the story circulates throughout the news. Unfortunately, going home again for Cammie means unleashing a lot of pent up emotions from ten years ago when her then boyfriend Grey (who was The One) cheated on Cammie with her best friend.
Coincidentally Grey is also back in Ministry. And he's doing work on Cammie's childhood home for her mother. While Cammie is determined to help out with the family business while she's there and keep away from Grey at all costs, Grey has other plans in mind. Plans that involve finally making things right between himself and Cammie.
I really liked Cammie. I liked that even with everything she's been through, she still "takes the higher path" I suppose I would call it. She pretty much becomes a pariah in the food industry when her former co-host starts spreading rumors. As much as Cammie would love to hit back hard, she doesn't, and it ends up making her look better in the long run.
Grey was a really sweet hero for our heroine. Despite the fact that he cheated on Cammie, you can definitely see where he didn't deserve a lot of what came after. I don't think there's any excuse for cheating, but his life was turned just as upside down as Cammie's was that fateful night.
I would say the only problem I had with this story is that there's too many different storylines, and what I felt was, some inconsequential details added to the story that ended up taking focus away from Cammie and Grey. Cammie's mother Maureen features heavily in the book. Susan Sands does try to take things from Maureen's past and make them relevant to Cammie and Grey's past / present, but like I said, all it does is take away from Cammie and Grey. There was very little time spent with Cammie and Grey getting to know one another again. They've been away from each other for ten years. They have to have changed at least enough where they have new things to learn about one another. They acknowledge the past only so much. Cammie is ready to forgive and leave the past in the past (which is a good thing, can't dwell on what's already done). I guess my thing was there's a lot that they'll need to work on if they want a future together (you would understand this once you read the book - I don't want to give anything away), I feel like we could have read about them working on these things within the story proper (without it happening off page) if the other storylines / details weren't in there. I would have preferred this seeing as how Cammie and Grey are the main characters.
I think I could more understand the added storylines / details if this book ends up becoming a series. There's plenty left open at the end that Susan Sands can pick up the story with one of Cammie's siblings.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I think it's a pretty good debut, and I would read more by Susan Sands in the future.
Loved, loved, loved this book! Again, Alabama is a fantastic new romance novel and Susan Sands is a fresh new voice in the romance genre. Cammie and Grey's romantic relationship is off the charts with the hot and steamy side, plus sweet romance. I cannot wait for more books by Susan Sands. Tule Publishing has a wonderful selection of authors and books.
This was a very interesting book. There were times I wasn't sure I understood what the heck was going on...those questions were answered eventually though, however I am still a bit upset with the simple explanation of she thought someone had hurt her baby girl in the worst way and she was still hurting over what had happened to her when she was younger herself. Some of the altercations that happened were so funny and reminded me of home a bit and I have known enough people from Alabama to know exactly what their accents sound like lol. While I didn't agree with the whole cheating situation because he was drunk..which seems to be the typical manly excuse, I did enjoy the little backstory on there about how he came to be with the other girl instead of her. I enjoyed the book overall to an extent, and would enjoy reading more by this author.
Can you forgive someone for a betrayal that changes the course of your life forever?
Cammie had been betrayed by Grey and her best friend 10 years ago. She moved away and is now back in town to help her mother recover from back surgery. Grey now a widower and single father has come back too. He never stopped loving Cammie and had made the decision to win her forgiveness and hopefully her heart. After everything from the past comes to light, will Cammie give forgiveness and open her heart to Grey again? Will they both be able to claim the love they once had?
I enjoyed this book, it's emotional and sweet all at the same time. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Susan Sands wrote a great story! I loved the heroine Cammie as she had moved on from her old life and once thrown back into it - she stood with her head held high. Grey Harrison was another story altogether. He chose his path in life and yet felt entitled to his old life too. I wish I could tell you that I was rooting for Grey and Cammie - but I wasn't. My rating is due completely to my opinion of the hero in this story. I would love to read something else from Susan Sands.
Great debut novel from an author I expect great things from! This is a small town romance that is well written and characters that are flawed, loving, and real. After leaving 10 years ago, Cammie Laroux never expects to find herself back in Alabama for an extended period of time. To make matters worse, she has to see Grey Harrison, the man that tore her heart to shreds, on a daily basis. His was the ultimate betrayal and how she is ever expected to get beyond it is a mystery, but her heart is telling her she needs to.
I really enjoyed this one and I highly recommend it everyone.
Cammie is tricked into coming back to her home town the one place she has always wanted out, it holds memories that she would rather stay in the past locked away where they can not sneak out at cause "misery". One her first day in town she faces her family and a memory that is best left just that or at least thats what she tells her siblings why they wait out moms surgery. Grey, is set to start work on his neighbors house when he is faced with the love of his life who he has not seen in 10 years, and the 10years has been nothing but heartache. Expect for his beautiful daughter his is headstrong and ready to take on him and the world if need be. He has one thing on his mind is getting the love of his life back and nothing will stop him or so he thinks.
I really had a fun time reading this book there were ups and downs in the book but in a good way. There were some tough subject brought up that not many authors I see write about but this author handled it with such grace and didn't in a way to write a story about it with out making it the whole story or making the story seem to heavy. I loved the characters in the story the struggles were real. The chemistry with not just the 2 main characters but with most was amazing and well written. I loved the brother/sister ness she brought to the book, no family is perfect but she had a fun way of making this family fun and wanting them to be friends. this book is worth the read, for sure.
They say (whoever “they” is) that you can never go home again. And maybe that’s true to some extent – life is never the same as when you left home ‘cos people and their perceptions of home change. Sometimes for the better, eventually.
It is never my intent in a review to give away spoilers, you should read a novel yourself to know all the details. So this one might be a bit lean in the review part because of my own choices in reviewing practices — but do not let that give you the idea that this is a lean story, it is not.
Cammie is returning home to stay, for a while at least, to help her mother, work in the family business and just maybe escape from the televised fiasco that she would just as soon burn down a bit. The absolute last person she wanted to discover to be working on her family home was Grey. The man who not only broke her heart, but stomped it into the ground. Grey sees Cammie’s return as a way to finally receive forgiveness, closure to a really bad choice, and to win her heart once again. His work is going to be detailed, difficult and near impossible – but with a second chance on the line, he’ll take the risk.
I enjoyed Again, Alabama very much. What Grey did was so very, very wrong on so many levels. And it would take a pretty amazing woman to forgive and move past that. Cammie could be that woman and watching her make her choices in the now, not the past, was an enjoyable journey to share with her.
I would recommend this novel to folks who love second chance stories, a deep love story and want to see mature adults act that way. You’ll find all of that and so much more in Susan Sands, Again Alabama.
*I received an e-ARC of Again, Alabama from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

She should be over it by now, it's been ten years and he had a kid with the "other woman", even though it was her best friend.
Even though she's dead, it doesn't look like Deb was much of a mother.
Maureen's secret is quite interesting.
A little girl is a vegan?
I want that house and everything in it.
Yikes, who knew pageants were so volatile?
The poor things won't know what they're walking into until it's too late.
Well that was a civilized breakup. 'Guess neither loved the other.
No amount of bleach will ever erase that image for them.
Her mom shouldn't have hid the letter.
Highly recommended read. This story kept my attention and I enjoyed it immensely.
3.5 stars
Again, Alabama was a good read. It had the perfect amount of drama and it wasn't overly done. There was just enough to keep you interested in both main characters.
Overall a good afternoon read.
Thank you Tule Publishing via Netgalley for the advance copy.
This story is full of Southern charm and big family love and craziness.
Cammie is dealing with a lot stress in her life right now, mom's surgery, disaster with her career, coming home to the town where she left from with embarrassment and a broken heart. And the first thing she has to face when back in Alabama, is her ex, Grey, the one who shattered her life ten years ago.
Also, it seems that Cammie's mom has her share of secrets, that all come into the life that one autumn in Alabama.
Cammie and Grey still have feelings for each other, that is obvious from the first meeting. But there's a lot of betrayed feelings, hurt, pain and brokenness between them. Grey's daughter, Sammie, is fragile from her mother's death, and life. So the work that needs to be done is not only between Grey and Cammie, but also with Sammie. And that journey is not easy, forgiveness doesn't come lightly, and forgetting the past is nearly impossible. But they work on it, to make it possible to live with.
I liked the Southern slow way of life, I always have. The family, with all the insanity, fun, ribbing, and hugs. The relationship between Grey and Cammie has some cheating issues, ten years ago, as well as now, since Cammie is engaged to another man when she arrives in Alabama, and starts to rebuild her relationship with Grey, and keeps it a secret to her fiance. I liked the author's voice, the way she tells the story, even though the story does move along slowly, in true Southern tradition. The cooking, event planning and running was intriguing to me, of course. The characters felt a bit one dimensional, more depth and insight into them would have been great. Also, even though there was a connection between Grey and Cammie, for me, the chemistry between them was only lukewarm. And after all the drama with Sammie in the story, I missed seeing how Cammie and Sammie build upon the fragile relationship they had. Overall, it is a warm story of second changes, small town living down south, and family love
~ Three Spoons
Susan Sands debuts on the writing scene with Again, Alabama; a charming story of woman coming back home to heartache, past memories and a chance to have the life that was once supposed to be hers.
Cammie Laroux’s life as a chef falls apart, and she’s back home to rethink and rebuild her life and help her family in the meantime. Coming home also brings her up close and personal with her past love Grey Harrison who is hired to restore their historic mansion. Old feelings surface and Cammie has to decide if Grey is worth breaking her engagement.
Grey Harrison is still in love with Cammie, but circumstances ten years ago forced him to marry Cammie’s best friend and is now a father and a widower. Being with Cammie only reinforces his feelings for her, but he’s got an uphill battle to convince Cammie of his love and regain her trust.
Again, Alabama takes time to build interest, yet it is quaint in its own way to hold that interest. For a first time author Susan Sands does a pretty good job in keeping the readers engaged with her narration, although there is repetitiveness in few locations. As much as the story is pleasing on the mind, characters definitely need a little bit more depth and chemistry.

Debut author Susan Sands has delivered an enjoyable to read book in Again, Alabama, although I did feel there was a bit of polishing to be done. One thing I noticed early in the book was very long sentences trying to deliver several ideas at once. Shorter, sharper sentences would have conveyed the same meaning much better and more clearly.
Then there were the characters. I liked Grey but couldn't bring myself to feel more than lukewarm about Cammie. As for her sisters, well, they annoyed the bejesus out of me. I think I would have pushed the lot of them out of a top floor window pretty early on in the book and considered it a good day's work.
The plot is good one though I do feel Ms Sands might have been trying to convey too many messages at once in places, which resulted in a few gaps in continuity and some confusion. Maybe it was just me, but things didn't seem to flow along as well as I had hoped.
On the whole though I liked this book and there were spots that had me raising my eyebrows or laughing. Who ever heard of a dry town in this day and age? I assume that means a town with no alcohol. The return of prohibition? But I digress. Back to this book, and as I said, it is a good debut novel from an author who clearly has a promising career ahead of her.
Sometimes I'm afraid to read books set in my own state--the southern setting is so easy to overdo. For the most part, it's done well here. I enjoyed that the book didn't get depressing, despite a few story elements that could have brought it down. Nice romance, despite a few misgivings about the ease with which past sins are forgiven.
This is the first I have read from Susan Sands and have to say it was in some case frustrating lol. I mean one minute Cammie seemed all into Grey then like a switch she was off. I was like here is a guy like Grey pouring his whole heart out and confessing his ways of error yet she is confused. I`m like no ma`am here is a guy who still wants you, still loves you and you have to think about it. Have to say seemed like Grey was the one who was 100% into wanting to make it work and Cammie just seemed to iffy on the whole thing. Hoping for more from Susan Sands than this one.
If you've ever had a thought like "Who gets married in Alabama on game day, anyway?" you'll be a Southerner, and much of the backdrop will feel very familiar to you.
Cammie fled her home town after her heart was broken and never intended to come back, least of all like this, but she can't abandon her family. Now she's trying to resurrect her mother's business, avoid the handyman, deal with her professional problems and still retain some vestige of sanity. It's unfortunate for her that all the hidden layers of secrets, rivalry and old flames are now being revealed.
A couple of potential problems were solved far too easily, but sometimes real life isn't a soap opera! This was a perfect read at the lake.
Cammie Laroux left her small hometown in Alabama 10 years ago devastated after her boyfriend cheated with her best friend. In that time, she returned for brief visits. Now, a disgraced tv chef, she returns to help with the family business while her Mother recovers from surgery. She quickly realizes that her family has conveniently forgotten to tell her that the business is in trouble and that her ex has been hired to restore the historic home that houses the business.
Grey Harrison made a mistake 10 years ago and has paid for it in more ways than one since. Now a widower with a child, he has moved home to find a new start. He hopes that new start will include Cammie. Full of emotion and secrets, this is an engrossing debut novel. While there were some things that could have been trimmed, the story, characters and setting made it easy to overlook. There was the main story and a secondary story focusing on their mother. Neither character is perfect, but their flaws and emotions made them human. It was obvious from the start that the two still had strong feeling for each other, and until Cammie dealt with that, there was no moving on. Overall, I enjoyed this novel and look forward to seeing what the author brings in a second novel.

You're rooting for the protagonists to resolve their differences in this sweet Southern tale. Both protagonists are surrounded by loving family ... and one disgruntled daughter. Good beach read.
This story begins with Cammie, returning to her home town of Ministry Alabama, to take care of her mother and the business that she runs through their home. She had left years ago and had become a chief and was working on a cooking T.V. show as an assistant when something went bad and the star of the show wanted her gone. Now home for the first time she finds out that her mother hired her one time boyfriend who married her best friend to fix up the place and that her niece is his daughter’s best friend. Now having to deal with the past because every day she sees Grey Harrison. His wife has passed away from a car accident but there are rumors around town that make her daughter think otherwise. Plus with Cammie back the small town is talking up a storm. Then she finds out about the real story between the two of them and a secret that her mother did not tell her. While there she also wins a pie contest and gets her reputation back in the food niche. This is a good book full of emotion and the characters have depth to them. A good story.
Again, Alabama by Susan Sands is a small town, second chance romance. This is the first book by Susan Sands that I have read. Ms. Sands has a smooth flowing style to her way of telling a story that pulls you in. Before I knew it I had read the first chapter and was way into the second. Using Cammie’s and Grey’s alternating points of view makes it very interesting as events are seen through both of their eyes.
Grey is likable even though he made some bad, bad choices ten years ago. I still found him to be an amiable character since I could see that he had tried to do the right thing as time progressed. His late wife is another story, finding out that what you want doesn’t always turn out the way that you think that it will. Then there is Cammie, the poor wounded girlfriend from ten years ago. Yes, I felt bad for her but she plays the victim card more than she should. So I found her to be harder to like even though she never seemed to really be at fault.
There is a second story involving Cammie’s mother, Maureen which helps explain some of her mother’s actions. I found that it did not take away from Grey and Cammie but instead shows some parallels between the two women and the events in their lives. Unmistakably, Ms. Sands used these characters to remind us that it is never too late for a second chance. This story is for those hopeful romantics out there, like myself.
Net Galley provided a copy.
Thank you for posting your books on NetGalley. It has become a fundamental resource for helping me find books for my library.
I enjoyed this story by Susan Sands. A second Chance at love story is one of my favorite tropes. Young and in love in school the H/h are again brought together 10 years later. Cammie has to work with him everyday as she tries to save the family business. Grey has never stopped loving Cammie, can they work through all that happened and betrayal years ago. Bring tissues, a heartwrenching and heartwarming read
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the Publisher for an honest review
A second chance at love is always a romance that I'm interested in reading. Again, Alabama is so much more than the simple second chance, reunion romance. Susan Sands delivers a not to be put down read that is loaded with family dynamics and secrets on top of the second chance at love romance. By the end of the book, I was glad to have experienced Cammie's journey back home to Alabama.
I was given a copy of Again, Alabama from NetGalley for an honest review and this is the review.
I honestly enjoyed this book. To me it was a sweet story about second chances and being able to get things right the second time around. I really liked Cammie and Grey as characters and I loved how hard he tried to make things right with Cammie when we was given a second chance to fix things. I also found it interesting that there was the same situation going on with Cammie's mom and her first love and how she was going through the same thing as her daughter. I will not say anything more because of spoiler reasons but I truly loved that part of the book.
Overall, this book was very well written, had great characters, a great story and was very good read. I am giving Again, Alabama four out of five stars.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
What a cute story! While there were some elements that bothered me, I thought Grey and Cammie's story was adorable. I was thrown by the mom's random interjections, only because they didn't really add to the story. I also had a real problem with the fact that Grey named his daughter Samantha. To me, that was even worse than what he and Deb did to Cammie. That felt like a low-blow and almost made me not root for the couple. Overall, an adorable story.
Very predictable story about love, secrets and redemption. Fine addition to that genre.

Review:
This is a well written debut novel by author Susan Sands. It is the story of lost love, second chances and forgiveness. It is the story of two people dealing with their pasts and deciding what they want their future to be. And how much they are willing to fight for that future.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. The author is very talented in provoking emotion in the readers. Whether it is feeling sorry for Cammie or disliking Grey immensely, the reader is sure to have thoughts and feelings about the characters. I think that is a sign of a very talented author. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written women’s contemporary book. If you enjoy taking an emotional rollercoaster ride then this book is a must read for you.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Copy courtesy of Netgalley 2nd chance at love with a HEA Cammie and Grey had a history,0. They were together since Middle school. But Grey committed the ultimate betrayal. She leaves and returns afters 10 years. cammie's mother is recovering from back surgery and Cammie's is helping to cover the business. Grey is still in love with Cammie's and wants to win her back. I wanted to like this book more but, I personally was unable to forgive Grey. Everything that happened was his fault and he deserved what he got. Although his daughter deserved better. The confrontation he finally had with Cammie's said it all. Every thing she said was correct from the heating to the child's name. I thought Grey's stance was too casuall. Lucky for Grey, Cammie was a bigger person than I would have been.
I loved this story of redemption and starting over. I loved how this was all about staying over and reading back control of one's life. I found it enjoyable and the characters fun feisty and funny.
Thought-provoking, emotional and beautifully written. A great read!
LOVE LOVE this story~! Such a fun and lighthearted read. You couldn't help but fall in love with Cammie and Grey over and over "again" as their story developed. Cammie's character is very relatable which makes the story even easier to read. While she is a strong and independent woman, she is still capable of having her heart melted to pieces by Grey. A great curl up with a blanket and tea on a cold day read!
Cammie came back to Alabama to help her mom after she had surgery .She hopes to put the family event planning business on a better track . She finds her historic home to be falling apart .
But the man hired to restore her home is Grey who had tore her apart ten years ago. I liked what Cammie and Grey went through to find true love. I like the story, plot, and characters. I recommend .
I absolutely love second chance romances, so I knew I had to read this one, sadly, it didn’t work for me.
Cammie’s returning home after ruining her career as a television chef to help with her family’s event planning business while her mother recuperates. Grey, her high school sweetheart, has been hired to restore Cammie’s family’s home. He’s a widower and single father, and there’s still a spark of chemistry between him and Cammie.
Sounds good, right? Even though the book was a little slow and choppy, I was enjoying this one….until it’s revealed that Cammie and Grey broke up because after getting into an argument, Grey gets drunk and sleeps with another woman who ends up pregnant.
I was over the book. My gran used to say, ‘once a cheater, always a cheater’ and, for me, a character can’t be redeemed in my eyes after discovering they’re a cheater.
