Cooper is a small grey cat who lives in Texas. He is perfectly happy with his life there; however, one day his best friend, Jennifer, tells him that they are going to New York. He doesn't really want to go, but he goes anyway. He enjoys the airplane ride with snacks to eat, but even before they arrive, Cooper is puzzled by the words that are used. He expects to see a big apple, but there aren't any in sight. When Jennifer says that they are going to the subway--he thinks it is lunch time.
The story continues with more baffling words that Cooper thinks mean one thing but turn out to mean something else. Along the way, the reader gets a tour of New York and visits some famous spots.
The illustrations are beautifully done and the book is easy to understand. I found the book to be interesting, and I'm sure children will enjoy reading about new York.
This book is beyond adorable. Cooper the cat goes to New York with his person. What he thinks he will see and what he actually sees are completely different. this book is told from Cooper's point of view and I simply loved it. Each page made me smile. The drawings are super cute and very well done. This book is wonderful! I would highly recommend this to any person who loves kitty cats. This one gets five paw prints!

There was a lot to love about this cute little children's book. The main character, Cooper the cat, is a content happy little fellow who loves his friend Jennifer and their life in Texas. But they decide to go on a big city adventure and the story progresses from there.
While it's not specified in the author notes, looks like parent-and-child team of Camille and Riley Cohn have created a charming picture book visit of Manhattan as seen through the eyes of Cooper the cat. Cooper's owner takes him from Texas to Manhattan on a tour of tourist hot spots from Katz's Deli to the Statue of Liberty; children will enjoy seeing the sights and reacting to them from kitty Cooper's point of view. Adult readers will appreciate the narrative wit regarding Cooper's obsession with getting fed - he expects food at the MTA subway (not the Subway sandwich chain) and the Stock Market (sells shares instead of snacks). Sharp NYC lovers will note the background on the page which Cooper visits Tiffany's is the same blue color as the store's iconic blue boxes. Author's note says illustrator Riley Cohn is only a high school sophomore; the llustrative style is very reminiscent of Lauren Child ("Charlie and Lola" series); I'd expect to see more of Riley in the years ahead. While the book may have limited appeal outside of the US Northeast, it's a charming, amusing winner for any young family planning a visit to New York City.
