Description
Years after her mother’s death, author Jan Groft finally faces the silence and secrets that separated them. Prompted by a prolonged struggle with writer’s block, she embarks on a journey of listening with the heart. Part memoir, part spiritual guide, Artichokes & City Chicken is a candid and poignant encounter with unresolved grief. Like the recipes of Groft’s mother sprinkled between chapters, the pages of Artichokes & City Chicken offer nourishment as they illuminate paths toward inner peace.

This book had me smiling and tearful all at the same time through Jan's grief for her mother and also the life that her mother was forced to lead. I loved the recipe's that were intertwined with the story and am determined to try some. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for help and guidance after a loss
I love a book that combines a memoir and recipes. The author recounts her time with her mother, cooking delicious recipes that pop from the page and transport you into the authors family kitchen. This combined with faith and inspiration that has helped bring light back into the authors life and smoothed away frustration and confusion. A truly inspiring book, combining, memoir, cookbook and faith. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
