Description
We live in a culture that doesn’t cherish the permanence of marriage, according to Karee and Manuel Santos. Even Catholics aren’t immune from the epidemic of divorce. But St. John Paul II, in his Theology of the Body, calls engaged, newlyweds, and long-married couples alike to be “forever,” “faithful,” “fruitful,” and “free.”
How can you maintain a healthy Catholic marriage when society is pushing against it?
In The Four Keys to Everlasting Love, the Santoses draw on real-life stories, scriptural principles, and the timeless wisdom of St. John Paul II to help you celebrate the sacrament of Marriage without downplaying the difficulties of married life. In doing so, they will inspire you to stay in love with each other, Christ, and the wisdom of the Church.
The Santoses tell their own story as well: how they learned not to cling to personality, culture, or religious differences; how they learned to put family first; how they overcame health crises that exacted a physical, emotional, and spiritual toll; and how they navigated stressful holiday get-togethers with extended family. They let God transform them and make their marriage stronger.
Each chapter provides discussion questions, action prompts, quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and various popes, and additional online and print resources to stimulate the couple’s conversation, mutual understanding, and positive change. Free worksheets and other supplemental resources are available on the authors’ website, canwecana.blogspot.com.

It is a great book! It refers to some of the most important marital issues, such as sex, parenting, unity, prayer, extended family, money, faith, service. All topics provides a real life example, so it´s very easy to understand the Authors message and point of view. Very well grounded in the Church´s teachings and the reflections questions help us to realize where we are in the subject discussed. Every family willing to improve the quality of their life should try this book!
This book doesn't tell you, it teaches you and I love it
It is a great guidebook for a loving and successful marriage. It encourages and inspires in-depth and honest conversations between spouses and touches on many important issues like finances, work, family of origin.
The four keys are
-Be Faithful and Forgiving
-Be Free
-Be Fruitful
-Love Totally and Forever
Each key is broken down into about 3 sub-categories.
I loved the case study's, reflection questions and Manny's Diagnosis. I believe they allowed for allowed for extensive thought and consideration without telling me what they think is the right answer but rather leads me to decide what is the best answer for me and my situation. They are amenable to any situation not just the one presented and they teach me to systematically evaluate and decide any situation that could ever come up in the future.
The bonus materials of Conversation Starters, Action Plans and Catechism Corner are true treasures.
The Four Keys to Everlasting Love is in many ways the best marriage advice book I’ve read this year. It breaks down the four requirements of a Catholic marriage (free, faithful, fruitful, and total) and practically applies them to our real lives.
The book seems to be predominately written by Karee Santos with valuable input from her husband such as his side of certain stories and a look into some of the situations he has seen as part of his practice as a therapist. This is a good thing. Her story as a successful lawyer who now stays at home with the kids is a story that needs to be heard. Their story as a mixed faith couple, mixed background couple is one that can help many people. There are also many other stories from tons of other couples and individuals, I can guarantee someone’s story will speak to your own.
This book is helpful for anyone: engaged, divorced, married for 20 years…anyone. Each chapter concludes with questions, action steps, and a quote from the Catechism. The entire book concludes with a guide for using this book as part of a group study and a copious amount of resources for further study into the topics the book covers.
I got the opportunity to review this book through my membership in NetGalley. Thank you Ave Maria Press. This book is available now at your favorite bookseller.
This is a wonderful spiritual book about a Catholic marriage.
While this is not a step-by-step guide to solve your concrete questions as it offers the bigger picture ways - but while you walk the faithful walk, you might get your concrete answers (or the strenghts and the graces you need). But I also would not call this book to be impractical, as it is quite realistic - while I see the aim here in providing the spiritual guidance, the authors also go through the stash of the realities of the married and family questions and issues. I simply gained more spiritually here and I am glad for it.
I also would love to have the inspring family the kind of Santoses here in my city to be able to gain more wisdom in learning from their example.
