Description

At the age of 36 I was over 225 pounds when I decided I needed to lose weight. I really had no idea how to do it so I just made sure I did not eat every single thing I wanted, and tried to get some exercise. As I changed my lifestyle the weight began to come off and over five years I lost 100 pounds. As I went through this process I noticed there was a lot of things I hated. I found myself not nearly as happy as I thought I would be about losing weight so I began to look at those things I hated in a more positive light. In the end I created a list of 100 things I loved, and hated about losing 100 pounds. I have been able to list these things and add commentary to each one of those things. Humor has always been a coping mechanism for me and this book is a great example of how I approach just about everything in life. Good, and bad.

author_bio: Angela is a 42 year old woman who has been described as a chocolate chip cookie with a dash of Tobasco sauce. She spent over five years losing 100 pounds, and has since successfully NOT kept all the weight off. She takes one day at a time, and has been known to have several months of bad eating at a time, but has been able to keep her weight under control by her own standards. As the 100 goal line was approaching she felt a deep need to share her thoughts with others who may be experiencing the same things. She enjoys spending time with her family, learning new things, and eating cupcakes.

The author uses humor to present the love/hate relationships she encountered during her efforts to lose 100 pounds. As she points out, you can love someone's support, but you can hate how it enables you to eat when you shouldn't. Same for workouts - love the effect, hate the effort. Kudos to Hartshorn, who emphasizes that weight loss can definitely be a personal gain.

I was surprised how much I liked this book. It's a non-fiction short read by a woman who has lost almost 100 pounds (and looks amazing in the final photo in the book) over a several year period.

It's not a diet book in that she isn't plugging a specific diet or exercise program, but it's more an open discussion about the things that she loves and hates in her life. For example, she loves her friends for accepting her just the way she is, but also hates them because they didn't tell her "honey, put down the cupcake!" She discussed family, friend, work, exercise, relationships, kids in the same way throughout the book.

There were too many typos in the book, as well as many instances where it appears spell-check was used and an incorrect word was inserted.

First, I want to mention that lovely cover - while I read an e-book (I so miss real covers!) I fell in love with this cover.

The book. - the word that comes to mind is helpful. I like that the author does not make it sound as though everything is miraculously easy now and I also love that she was honest about exactly how hard it was to lose the weight and stay motivated.

This is an interesting take on weight loss - the love/hate angle. This book is not really a "fun" read, but rather I would place it in the informative category.

Thank You to Angela Hartshorn for this intimate glimpse into her mind. Though this book is small, it packs a great deal of interesting and revealing commentary about the weight loss (and gain) journey. Angela seems to have a unique ability to put common feelings into writing, I appreciated her candidness and humor, as well as her willingness to share both the good and the bad. Treat yourself to this calorie free dessert of a book.

I didn't know what to expect when I read this book, but it was a humorous and a good read.

This book was interesting in it's own way. It wasn't really for me, though. I opted not to review it for my blog.

I read the first dozen pages and then gave up. I see this book has received rave reviews from many, but for me it was a straight up "no".

The author talks about 100 things and mentions what she loves and hates about each thing. To me there was just so much contradiction and repetition that made it just plain boring and I could not get beyond the first few pages.

An interesting read for those, like myself, battling to lose the lbs and easy to pick up and put down whenever the mood takes you.

A charming book about one woman's love-hate relationship with her weight and everything that goes along with being overweight. From food to friends, family to clothes shopping. This is not a how-to or a book full of ways to lose weight, it's Ms. Hartshorn's feelings about everything she had to go through on her journey. As a morbidly obese woman, this book really resonated with me. Now with that being said, I wish that everyone who either is overweight or knows someone that is would read this book.

Dreadful. Couldn't get past the third page. Boring, repetitive, badly laid out and terribly written.
