Baseball Field Guide by Dan Formosa and Paul Hamburger is an illustrated guide to the rules and procedures of Major League Baseball.
It is a great tool for those learning the game or those teaching the game to those who are the uninitiated to the greatest American Pastime. It is also a great reference to have for that Mr. KnowitAll annoying guy or girl who really doesn’t know the rules of the great game. I suspect this resource will be the tipping point to many bets over the summer.
The illustrations provide graphic information that will help some visualize the game. For those who are hardcore fans, it will be a gentle reminder and may provide you with some corrections to long held fallacies. For instance there was the infamous umpire interference of a catcher over the last couple of years. Yes, that is in the rule book.
In high school my coach had a play for us to steal first base from second. Now I’m glad we never used that one because it was made illegal in the 20’s, long before I was in high school. But I’ll be it we did it, he would have been able to argue with the umpire and win because I doubt most high school umpires know that obscure rule. The book will be released in March of this year. Just in time for the serious baseball lover to start winning bets from their unsuspecting friends over the legitimate use of the glove and whether if you throw your hat on purpose at a live ball every runner is awarded three bases. That is provide the hat actually strikes the live ball!
It will be a great conversational piece to anybody who loves the game of Baseball. I highly recommend it.
I received a free pre-publication download of this book by the publisher for my honest review.
