I loved the illustrations and thought the story was perfect. I was super worried about the kid being knocked out on his own, though!
fun and educational! perfect for group reading and story time when learning about the Galapagos Islands.
This is a cute story about Tomas who lives in Ecuador and his day. He heads off on his beloved horse Bonito but falls off when the horse is startled by a wild dog. He hits his head and off to dreamland he goes. The book teaches us a little about Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. It is short with some detail that will not cause young ones to lose interest. There are colourful illustrations with some detail. The only problem I had with this book was that the text was hard to read on some pages as it was printed over the illustrations. I think young children, especially those with a good imagination, will enjoy this story.
Cute story I will enjoy sharing with my nephews. The illustrations were beautiful and captured Tomas's adventures well. I was hoping for a little more Spanish to teach my nephew, but still a great book to introduce another culture.
This was an imaginative tale about a boy from Ecuador who wants to be a cowboy, or who is a cowboy really, I guess. He spends his days out riding his horse around the countryside. It uses a few Spanish phrases, but only a few that do not detract from understanding the story (and they are translated at the end of the story for further edification). I thought the story was a bit strange, but also informative. I particularly liked the facts at the end of the book.
The illustrations were very bright and colorful, definitely eye-catching. They almost tell the story without words being needed. I do think that might detract from the words slightly.
My 7 year old read this book to me, and while he stumbled over a few of the words, it was fairly simple for him to read. He said it was a good book and his favorite part was the sea turtle.
Overall I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
A good adventure story but would have been better with a bigger and colourful text
This book had great illustrations that were very unique and beautiful. The book's characters were varied which is great. I loved the overall story but felt that the Spanish words used in the book should have had an accent when it was called for. Specifically, "Tomás" and "días."
Tomas lives in the South American land of Ecuador, and dreams of becoming the best cowboy in the rodeo. He sets off out into the sunny mountain lands on his horse "Bonito". They gallop across fields, rivers and banana plantations.
This is a young boy`s adventure through the beautiful South American countryside, which ends as he falls off the horse back and hits his head on a rock. But another adventure starts off as in his concussion, he travels into a wonderful dreamland!!
Tomas sails far away into Galapagos Islands, riding a giant green sea turtle through the deep sea waters passing a school of Hammerhead sharks. In the beach he join some pirates on their picnic but his joyous times in the Galapagos end as they see the fiery red and orange river of lava start to flow down rapidly. Tomas runs as fast as he could.....As the sun sets, on Bonito`s back he returns home to a loving mama and a warm plate of "Langoustines"!! Colorful and clear illustrations compliment the story well.
A simple adventure which lacks originality but reveals some interesting information about the nature around exotic Galapagos Islands and about lifestyles in the South American countryside. Helpful in awakening curiosity in children. The book offers a separate page with some interesting facts about Ecuador & Galapagos and a Spanish vocabulary.
