Description

Banker Katie James has a serious thing for romance novels. She’d almost rather settle for a fictional boyfriend than risk her heart on a flesh-and-blood man. Besides, the only real guy she’s remotely interested in is her rich, unattainable client, the mysterious Cooper Maxwell.

Looking less like the ultra-conservative man she knows and more like a drop-dead sexy character from one of her books, Cooper crashes Katie’s 29th birthday party. But one too many drinks lands Katie in uncharted territory… Cooper’s bedroom!

Drunk on love, Katie dives headfirst into the relationship only to discover that Cooper is keeping secrets… dangerous ones. As if things couldn’t get worse, her meddling mother makes a surprise visit, digging up a whole new set of problems.

Who would have guessed having an assassin for a boyfriend would be the least of her worries?

Banker Katie James has a serious thing for romance novels. She’d almost rather settle for a fictional boyfriend than risk her heart on a flesh-and-blood man. Besides, the only real guy she’s...

The story was actually super cute. It had funny moments. It remained pretty mysterious until the very end. Katie was so flipping dorky in an adorable way. Clumsy, hilarious, and her imagination (and admittedly mine as well) runs a little wild the more Cooper keeps to himself. Cooper is a total charmer. Super romantic and totally in love with Katie. He pulls out all the stops for Katie's courtship and makes the reader fall in love right along with her lol The other characters in this story are a little outrageous adding to the humorous tone of the book. The connection between the MCs is natural and sweet. The ending was written very cleverly and had me sweating for a sec. I totally enjoyed this nugget especially the few laugh out loud moments.

This was a fun read! I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. Katie is adorably clumsy and the girl everyone loves but doesn't take seriously. Cooper was hunky, romantic and completely smitten with Katie. Cooper didn't want to reveal his career to Katie which just caused her to imagine all sorts of reasons to why he hid his occupation. The whole book is based off of Katie trying to find out what Cooper does for a living and in return kept getting in embarrassing situations. I really love reading books like this that just make me giggle at all the heroines antics. Super fun read!

I hadn't expected this book to be so immersive! At first, it seemed like it would be a cute love story. Then, it felt deeper than that and I was really enjoying how it felt like it was one of Katie's romance novels, but with this adorable male lead (though also wondering if it was going to take a turn into full-blown fantasy). Then, it was suspenseful and I have notes all over the place as I tried to solve the mystery of what Cooper's secret was.

Honestly, I am blown away by how well Erica Lucke Dean accomplished making me feel like I was Katie. So often, I felt the way Katie was, right down to the end. I didn't figure out Cooper's secret until Katie did, which is awesome because I usually figure that type of thing out almost immediately! And the twist at the very end was great too!

This had me laughing out loud in parts, which is always good. And Cooper? I made so many notes as I read, which is not that usual unless I am loving a book. He was sweet and I loved how hesitant he was, how slightly awkward. It really endeared me to his character.

I was also happy to find that the steam factor was a bit average and it didn't turn into a "romance novel." I'd say it was PG-13, and I wouldn't have minded more of an R rating. ;)

The side characters were also enjoyable, though Vicky and her bitchiness drove me a bit bonkers. And her mom? Yeah, she was a bit much too. But isn't that how Katie felt? :)

This was sweet, and cute, and so much more than I expected. It was a moderate read that was quick, mostly because I didn't want to put it down. Erica, if that is your real name, I'll be keeping my eye out for more from you!

When Katie James is out celebrating her birthday with her co-workers from the bank the drinks start flowing and somehow she gets talked into singing. As Katie starts her song in walks a man that looks like the one in her dreams, one that looks like he stepped right out of one of Katie’s favorite romance novels. When the man turns around though she finds it’s one of her clients, Cooper Maxwell, that Katie has had a crush on for the last year.

The next thing Katie knows she awakens in a strange bed after having a drink too many to calm her nerves around Cooper. She then finds that it was Cooper himself that brought Katie home to care for her since he didn’t know where she lived. The two soon find themselves rushing into a relationship after both hiding their feelings for the past year but Katie soon finds that Cooper is full of secrets. Will she be able to trust him or is he too good to be true?

Erica Lucke Dean has a way with her characters that make me truly just love everything about them and their stories. Katie was the typical shy and unsure lead but she was also quite adorable with her fumbling and her wild imagination and Cooper is a too good to be true sexy male lead. The rest of Katie’s co-workers were also hilarious in their own ways.

The one thing I was slightly disappointed in was that I had read another book not too long ago that had basically the same outcome as this one. I felt early on that I knew how the story was going to turn out but to be honest Erica Lucke Dean did the story and characters so much better than the other I’d read and after looking them up, this was actually even published first so even guessing the ending this is still getting five stars from me.

Overall, a wonderfully fun read, often very humorous with great characters and while there is sex involved it’s more implied than described for those that don’t enjoy anything too graphic.

Whoop! I absolutely loved this book! Katie and Cooper together are so fantastic. I love the mystery behind Cooper. His "run-in" with Katie at the bar was done so well and I instantly fell in love with them. Their chemistry and banter with one another just kept a smile on my face the whole way through this story. Katie's obsession with the romance novel series was so endearing and although it is not really too hard to figure out what Cooper's real job is I adored the way the story played out and lengths that Katie went to try and get to the bottom of some of Cooper's "strange" activities. The scene at the end in the vault broke my heart and was so well written I actually went back and re-read it again. I almost flipped my lid at the very end and was worried that we were not going to get a HEA but alas things wrap up exactly as they should and I was left a very happy reader! I loved this author and fell in love with this book from the very beginning.

Katie James has just turned 29 and is still single but has a crush on her client for the last six months or so. While out with friends for drinking and karaoke for her birthday she sees Cooper Maxwell (her crush) come into the bar. The next morning she wakes up at Cooper's house with a handover. They start to talk and then start to go out. But Cooper seemed to be keeping a secret and is very hush hush about his job. This starts to get Katie thinking crazy things about what he does. This is a really sweet and easy read. I really enjoyed this book.

To Katie With Love by Erica Lucke Dean has to be one of the most quirky and fun romance novels that I have read this year.

The heroine, Katie James, was a lovable klutz that was so relatable. I could actually relate to this woman who would rather be at home reading than at a bar with friends/co-workers or on a date with a "real" man. Cooper Maxwell is tall, dark, handsome and mysterious. No one at the bank where Katie works seems to know what he does for a living. Which brings up a possible conflict of interest as he is one of her clients. Although she's had a crush on him for months, she's always remained professional during their weekly meetings. However, he's often in her thoughts and her romance fueled fantasies.

The plot was fast paced and there were so many humorous moments that I was laughing throughout the book. The secondary characters, her friends/co-workers and her mother, were also likable and very relatable. Well, maybe not her mother as I didn't like her very much. One co-worker in particular was a little over the top. She was often the catalyst behind Katie's wild imaginings about Cooper and his secrets. I have known several people that I could easily see fit in these characters shoes. Ms. Dean wrote a terrific ending to this story. I never saw the twist coming and I have to confess that I did cheer for Katie and Cooper at the end as they got their HEA.

To Katie With Love was a fun and entertaining story. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Katie and Cooper, and I thought that the story line progressed well. A light, quick read with enough laughs to satisfy.

Cute romance between Katie, a banker and Cooper, a man of mystery. I figured out what Cooper did for a living long before the end of the book but enjoyed the story anyway. Loved the dialogue and characters.

Overall, I really liked this book, but just felt like it was missing a little something. Not sure why, perhaps I was letting the author's other series, the one with witchcraft, influence me, and kept expecting a pet skunk as well. I do like this author though, and this story is fine. I liked the characters and a sweet dreamy romance writer is the perfect fit. Would highly recommend this book and author.

To Katie With Love melted me and thrilled me! Katie reminded me of myself. I am ALWAYS reading romance and dreaming. Even though I am happily married, I am still in love with the whole concept of love and romance. I know that sounds crazy, but I can't seem to stop myself and reading this book was like I was reading about my life. I freaking LOVED it! I found the plot exciting and different then most and that just tickled my interest The characters are outstanding complex and the story was perfectly paced.

Not only was this a wonderful romance, it was also one heck of an adventure and had just the right amount of action and a bit of suspense. Everything felt charged and wonderfully exciting. I am looking forward to exploring other books by Miss Dean!

This gets an EXCITING FOUR AND A HALF SHOOTING STARS! Brilliantly written, To Katie With Love will enchant readers with how fun and sexy, and yes, charming it is. A MUST MUST MUST READ!

I recently discovered Erica Lucke Dean and I fell in love with the characters she creates. I didn't think it was possible but To Katie with Love is now my all time favorite story that Dean has written!! I cannot wait to read more books by this amazingly talented author!

By far, the best reason to read To Katie With Love is Cooper, the handsome, true romantic at heart hero. Looking back, other than not coming clean about his occupation, you will be hard pressed to find anything wrong with this head over heels in love, alpha protective book boyfriend. Well, him and the very clever, completely unexpected twist at the end involving him. That scenario was movie screen worthy, folks.

Katie, on the other hand, seemed to have been short changed by the author in this humble NetGalley reviewer’s opinion. Simply put, I wasn’t a fan of Katie being made to look like a complete insecure klutz/idiot on several occasions. Seriously, how many times is it likely someone does a face plant into the floor from tripping over their own feet? Left me thinking she needs to see a doctor, because that just isn’t normal. Is that unfortunate trait somehow supposed to make her character more credible or endearing to us? Correct answer: Too many times for this story and no, it didn’t. I prefer a strong, sassy, confident heroine, not a stand on the sidelines, unfashionable, beautiful but doesn’t know it heroine. Don’t even get me started on Katie’s frequent hangovers and getting completely wasted three week-ends in a row, when supposedly she seldom drank alcohol. If anyone had to worry, it was poor old Cooper. I’m surprised he didn’t suspect her of being a total lush and run for the hills. Then there was the “someone is trying to kill me” scene that definitely made Katie look like she had a screw or two loose.

The biggest asset to this story was the evolving romantic relationship between the main couple. That portion was refreshing sweet and romantic. What didn’t work was the over the top, inappropriate, intrusive, none of their business banter by the unlikeable cast of bank employee sub-characters, including Katie’s mom, who made it hard for this reviewer to focus on the main story. I would equate it to an annoying flying insect buzzing around your head while you are trying to enjoy a meal. It takes away all your enjoyment. Just when you start to take a bite, there it is again. You end up spending all your time thinking about that irritating pest and wishing it would go away. Meanwhile, the food on your plate grows stone cold. I felt the same way at the very mention of Katie’s co-workers. Vicky, especially, fit that analogy. A married woman who blatantly, unashamedly wanted Katie’s love interest, the hero, and acted like she had a right to compete with Katie for him. Yes, you heard me right. The woman was married! As much as these people were in each other’s business, I don’t understand why they didn’t tell her to knock it off! Geesh! For some strange reason, Katie seemed reluctant to put Vicky in her place. I’m not completely sure what was up with Silva. Friend or foe? At the beginning, all their irritating, at times vulgar, conversations seemed to run together, so much so, I subconsciously lumped them all together and gringed every time any of them made an appearance. Silva, at least, did turn out to be what most would consider a good friend at the end. For me, I still held a little grudge, because she annoyed me so much in the beginning.

Oddly at 50%, these office slackers finally started to lay off a little and Katie commented she was starting to miss all the attention from them. That had me seriously questioning Katie’s intellect big time, folks.

The biggest surprise of the book? Besides the big twist I mentioned earlier, one word…Dean. Sorry, if you want to get the full scope, you’ll have to read this one, my romance book-loving friends. If you don’t mind weeding though what I just mentioned, I think you will enjoy it. Since I really liked the romance and the surprise ending, I’m glad I read it. This reviewer is just frustrated there was unlikeable filler content that keeping popping up now and then.

I was totally surprised by this book. I feel the need to make that the first thing you read because it is so rare in the romance novel business to be surprised. But - I so was! So - spoilers lie ahead - you've been warned.

When I first started reading the book, I was really confused, but I just went with the flow. It was funny and the protagonist, Katie, is a romance novel lover. When she becomes involved with Cooper, it totally seems like it's too good to be true. Honestly, I was really starting to believe that he was an assassin. He was super mysterious and...well, secretive. But what he ended up being was so much more interesting! I said this review was fun of spoilers, but I can't let this one go - it's too unique. So, just take my word for it. The novel had a great balance of romance, mystery, and intrigue. I mean, I thought he was an assassin!

What a fun ride! It had me laughing out loud at points, I loved the characters and we've all been there in the dating world of today's society. A light-hearted book at some points and more thought-provoking in others, I really did enjoy this book. It was a quick read for me and a great way to spend an afternoon. I highly recommend the book.

Erica Lucke Dean offers readers a novel with plenty of heart, a hero that will charm even the most cynical reader, and a cast of supporting characters that actually are just that, characters as in, "He/she's a character..." At times I lost track of the story because of all the side conversations and comments from the heroine's friends, family and colleagues. Overall, I thought the novel was very entertaining and even though the heroine is a little slow to come into her own, I eventually warmed up to her and began to root for her happily ever after. Ms. Lucke Dean writes with humor and wit, so the dialogue is strong and the situations well set. I would definitely read more from her.

this was a cute story. Katie is a banker who has just turned 29. According to her friends and a overbearing mother, she is one cat short of an old maid. She spends most of her time reading romance novels and inventing excuses to avoid life. Cooper is the handsome client that visits each week. He is sweet and a little on the shy side. It takes him a year plus some pushing from others for him to ask her out. Cooper has secrets and with some help and her crazy imagination, Katie comes up with some wild things. the story is fun and sweet. The main characters and supporting cast were a lot of fun. The ending and epilogue were great.
