Description
Rogues Redeemed
As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her.
Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match.
Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel's enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they'd dared imagine. . .

This was a marvelous book. I have read Putney before, and was not a big fan. This book was good enough to make me reconsider . The story begins with war POWs awaiting execution, then managing to free themselves . Our hero is among them. He is later tasked with returning soldiers, post war to a small kingdom between Portugal and Spain , and assessing the damage done to said country in the Penisular war. Our heroine is an Englishwoman living in said country, as a companion and advisor to the princess now leading that country. She is a strong, brave and interesting woman, not a shrinking violet at all., though she does have a difficult emotional past. The story delivers a lot of what I look for in a romance, passion, danger and a wonderful HEA.
I love this series. Now looking at Goodreads, it seems like this book will be the bridge between The Lost Lords and Rogues redeemed. My guess the soilders Will was with in the beginning will be in the new series. For this book, I enjoyed the new setting and Athena was a unique heroine. Will and Athena together were a great couple. My only compliant was that Justin did not get his own story.
