Description
Purdy the cat and Barker the dog live together in a sky-blue house on a hill. But while the two friends share a house, they are as different as cat and dog can be. Purdy has big dreams, while Barker likes to putter in the garden. Purdy likes to eat fish, but it is Barker who must scoop them from the lake for dinner. Their days together bring quarrels, contradictions, and craziness—a cat with so many ideas needs a dog with a lot of patience if friendship is to win out in the end.
These captivating and very funny characters romp through a warm and busy story from Finland's number-one children's author.

A cat and a dog live as the most ill-fitting pair of friends in a blue house on a hill. The dog is all industry, forethought, duty, hard work doing all the housework, crop-growing, maintenance, etc, while the cat is sheer fun – with a sense of silliness, and at the same time some quite misguided ideas. The chapters in this book cover arrogance, hubris, accidents, this bit of cleverness and that bit of silliness, and hubris again. In actual fact there are possibly too many of these linked short stories, for the book is quite a dense read for the young. The illustrations are fine, the stories are all well-crafted, different enough and enjoyable – it just seems at times there is content enough for two whole books, meaning this one seems over-stuffed. But I'm sure people will like it, if not only for the value that brings to its purchase.
