Chaos Rises

I enjoyed the story, it was your standard urban fantasy lite on the romance and centered around demons and half demons. It does a good job developing a set of characters and establishing a new "universe" while hooking you to want more. I will definitely grab the next book in this series when it comes out.

After the fall and subsequent rise again of the veil between Hell and our world, and their escape from the Institute, brother and sister Del and Gem are under the care of Allard, a demon who keeps them safe from the Institute while they do jobs for him. When the last job they are on for him goes wrong, and Del disappears, Gem is left desperate to get him back. No one understands how dangerous he is without her. Allard agrees to look for Del, but Gem must steal an artifact for him. That’s when things go all wrong and Gem learns things are not as they seem. Allard has a plan and everyone has a place in his plan. Will Gem find out what’s going on before it’s too late for her? Or, more importantly, before it’s too late for her brother?

Sometimes I forget how much I like an author until I read them again. Ms. DaCosta is one such of those authors. I had read a couple of book in her Veil series, and really loved them. This book is a spin-off from that series, and reading this book, I remember what a great author she is. This book, as well as her other books, is packed with action, well-written, and totally engaging. There is a romance in this book, but it never never takes over the plot. This book held my attention from the beginning to the end, and I can’t wait to find out more backstory on all the characters. And, I’ll definitely have to go back and read more in the Veil series. Be advised you don’t have to have read the original series to start with this one. Don’t delay, however, in reading this book. This book is well worth it! Highly recommend!

I think i've just found my new favourite urban fantasy writer! What a stunning book, i've never read any of her other book (that will soon change!) but it didn't hinder my enjoyment and I didn't feel as though it detracted from my experience. We meet a brother and sister, Gem & Del, half-demons who have unique and kick-ass abilities. When he goes missing it's up to Gem to get to the bottom of his disappearance. Thrilling, with fantastic world-building, lots of action scenes and also ending on a bit of a cliff-hanger, rest assured I will be reading the next entry in the series! Recommended.
