Soft watercolors illustrate this story. It would be a good read for bedtime. I like that it has facts about bears after the story.

Wonderful Children's Book! The illustrations are very cute and detailed just enough to hold a child's interest. I love the idea that Baby Bear has friends and a protective family. The Fast Facts at the end make it easy to teach a kids about nature.

Baby Bear insists he is NOT hibernating, and when he finds out that some forest friends--Owl, Moose, and Hare--don't hibernate, he figures he'll do what they do in order to stay awake for the whole winter...but that turns out to be harder than he thought. Luckily, unbeknownst to him, someone special is looking out for him.

What a cute book! The plot is adorable, with Baby Bear so sure he can (and DID) stay awake through the whole winter, and the illustrations are fantastic. In the scenes with his parents, the book has one-page panels or two-page spreads depicting their interactions, but when he is with his friends, the spread is divided into three, with a large, close-up picture of Baby Bear and his friend in the middle, bracketed by smaller, more distant pictures of the pair. I really liked that format; it worked really well, And I thought the illustrations were beautiful with a soft and sweet quality to them. Really beautiful book.

This is a gorgeous little picture book with some amazing images and I can easily see it becoming a firm family favourite. The story is very good, you learn from it as well as genuinely enjoy it - very highly recommended and I'll be looking to get a copy to keep. It's the kind of book I loved and cherished as a child.

After dealing with a child who actively resists bedtime, I enjoyed reading this story about a little bear who resists sleep. He learns what his friends do during his hibernating time, and ultimately finds out that he really wasn't missing much by sleeping. I do like how he keeps moving so he won't fall asleep - that is just too familiar. The facts about bears at the end were extremely interesting as well.

Baby Bear's Not Hibernating is a joyous book! Baby Bear is portrayed as determined little guy, but he carries the innocence that all children posses. You can't help but be impressed by his determination, while wanting to give him a hug for his sweetness. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful, and really add to the book's appeal. Visually, they grab your attention and leave you wanting more. They also follow the story perfectly, allowing you to get immersed in the little story of Baby Bear.

This book had me at the first page. Baby Bear is a cute and stubborn little bear who loves winter! He does not want to hibernate and sleep through the season so, when his parents head off to the den to sleep, he says good-bye, see you in the spring and heads off to visit his friends. He has some great friends who teach him what they do in the winter, and a heart warmingly protective dad.

This is a gorgeous little picture book with wonderful illustrations done in watercolour. It is a cute story that could be used for children as a bedtime story but also to teach about winter, what some animals do in the winter and fun facts about bears. There is some great information about bears at the back of the book. I can easily see it becoming a family favourite.

I would recommend this book for family libraries, pre-school classes and primary schools. This book will become a well loved story to be read over and over.

Just like most kids, Baby bear does not want to go to bed, or in his case hibernate. He decides to try what each of his friends try to make it through the winter. Nice illustrations and a nice story.

Any minute now the snow will start falling, winter will settle in and all good little bears will be tucked in their cozy caves snoring away until spring. That is all little bears except this particular baby black bear. He decides to skip the sleep and hang out and play with his friends. Who wants to hunker down and miss out on all the adventures that they are having? No way... a fun and frolicking winter it will be.

His concerned dad keeps a watchful eye on his cub. Dad prepares himself for an intervention, enabling him to retrieve his inexperienced little rogue son, and bring him back home safe and sound.

Baby bear after polling his friends and finding our their winter customs isn't too impressed, but non-the-less he pursues his dream of a sleepless season. The snow presses in and little bear just cannot keep his dream awake... he caves... and with the help of his caring friends and his beloved dad he is ushered back to his den where he snuggles down in between his parents... and the trio contentedly snore away!

I love the fact that his dad let him discover the error of his ways on his own but is baby bear's safety net every step of the way. The book highlights diverse friendships and how they all rally together to rescue the little cub and keep him from harm. I highly recommend this book.

Baby Black Bear wants to stay awake a-a-a-a-a-all winter long, so he gets advice from other friendly forest critters. However, when winter comes, will he really be able to avoid hibernation? Accompanied by gentle watercolor illustrations. Great book for stubborn little bears who refuse their bedtime. The back of the book contains facts about black bears.

I really like the artwork in Baby Bear's Not Hibernating. I love the story...what child doesn't wonder what will happen if they don't exactly follow the rules (i.e. stay up late). I think children will connect with this book, and it will be a favorite bedtime story. I also enjoyed the end notes and facts about bears. Great book!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not influenced by the publisher and all thoughts are purely my own.

I initially requested this book on Netgalley to see if it would be a good fit for my young cousins, whom are big animal lovers and I'm already narrowing down my list of books to get them for Christmas. I would say that this book definitely makes the short-list for me! This is a charming little book about a rambunctious little black bear who doesn't want to hibernate and stay awake a-l-l-l-l-l winter with the help of his newfound friends: an owl, hare, and moose. Along the way, he learns about what these animals do during the winter before determining after trial-and-error that hibernation is the best idea for a baby bear!
The illustrations were very pretty and reminded me in a lot of ways of the illustrations in The Mitten by Jan Brett, and I really liked the scientific facts about bears and all the other animals throughout the book and the little bear guide in the end. I certainly enjoyed it, and I would definitely recommend it for all children (or children at heart) interested in nature and wildlife.

This is a perfect bedtime story, preferably on a cold winter night. I love the way Paper Bear lets Baby Bear learn for himself why he needs to hibernate.

Adorable book about a baby bear who doesn't want to hibernate and his parents who support him.

This endearing story about an inquisitive, stubborn baby black bear’s encounter with other animals while he attempts to avoid hibernation with his family, will provide young readers with knowledge of the wintertime habits of various species, while sparking interest in learning more about both these and other animals.

Throughout the book, the author meshes both fiction and non-fiction text effectively.

The use of bold text for select words is effective in demonstrating emphasis and expression, and the detailed illustrations will keep the reader engaged in the story, increasing interest and enjoyment of the overall reading experience.

As an educator, I think that this book would be a wonderful springboard for further inquiry, via animal research projects.

Such a cute story! I wonder if animal parents have as much trouble with naps and bedtimes as us humans?! Illustrations are lovely. I will be using this book for story times and promoting it to caregivers.
