Cute little book about friendship, family, and of course sea turtles (with other animals thrown in). Friendship lost, friendship gained as well as common goals and interests are woven into this nice little story.

Three stars because it will not appeal to all kids, the plot is very simple and most of the book is about animals and sea turtles. There is nothing wrong with it and the book is really informative, but it can be a bit tedious if animals and nature are not your thing.

Morgan Otter is a mixed race kid (mother is Scottish and father is Cherokee) who has to move home in different parts of the States. At the beginning of the book she is heartbroken, missing her best friend and her old house. She is unable to play or read as she is so sad and can't see how things can even get better.

Luckily, she goes to summer camp where she learns a lot about sea animals and make new friends. The book had several black and white illustrations which looked quite good. I would only buy this book for a kid who really liked nature and animals.

Morgan Otter takes you on a journey of personal growth, adventure into new landscapes, and teaches you valuable information about the creatures she meets in her new home.

I love it when an engaging story line also imparts a ton of information! Here, Morgan helps her readers learn about sea turtles. Morgan has just moved into the area and struggles to make friends. But time at camp and becoming familiar with the sea turtles give Morgan a mission. She, another friend, and their parents help the sea turtles by keeping other creatures away, giving the sea turtles time and safety to make it into the ocean after their hatching.

The illustrations were soft and gentle. The reading level is about third grade, so preschoolers through upper elementary would enjoy this book.

I gratefully received this book for free from the author, the publishers, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

Morgan Otter Saves the Sea Turtles by Tara V. Thompson is an interesting look at moving to a new place. I read the story to my grand child who is just learning to read. Being an educator, I would say any elementary age child would enjoy the story but the readability is about third grade level. By about fifth grade, it may not have enough action or conflict in the story to hold their interest.

I understood the problem of moving to a vastly different locale, Phoenix, Arizona to Wilmington Island, Georgia, but Moran seemed to adjust fairly well early on in the story. Going to the camp made all the difference for her where she was able to make friends quickly. More tension in the adjustment to a new area would have taken this story from good to great. However, I did feel the knowledge given through the day camp setting about Lowcountry animals, especially the sea turtles, is well done.

I received an advance copy of this middle grade book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book will be published on November 8.

Overall, I thought this was a great book for kids. It was one I would totally read to my kiddos. Morgan, the main character, just moved. Her story of settling in, making new friends, and learning more about her new environment would be good for any child. There are some beautifully drawn illustrations through out the book. I loved those! This would also be a great book for a child who loves the environment. It gives you a bit more information about some of the creatures found on the Georgia coast.

Amazon review will be posted after the book's release date.

This is a good story about how difficult it is to move and not fit in immediately in a new school. it is a simple story and I think many children will like it. Books that have to do with a animals are always a favorite with the children I deal with. I will definitely purchase this book for our library.
