Lovely picture book that is really just a way to teach the colors, but what a great way to do so. The protagonist goes over why a color would work for a kiss, and then remembers why it wouldn't work. What color is a kiss? It is all colors.

I think both kids and adults will fall in love with this book.

I love the idea on the book! Children need to learn to be creative and ask questions! I only learned to ask questions only at university! This book is so creative and cute! It connects feelings, objects and interests in the world of color! I love it! A great book! A must! The illustrations are also cute!

Monica loves to do many things but most of all she likes to paint. She likes to paint lots of different things a lot of different things. She wants to paint a kiss but shes not sure what color a kiss is, so she goes through each color naming things that are that color.

This book is right up creative kids' alley! The main character thinks about kisses in an unusual way (colors). This is great for encouraging other creative connections, which is great because that's how many problems get solved -- because a creative person thought about something differently!

This cute, little book pulled me in from the title. Right away, I love the typography and layout of the book. I love that a few words on each page are presented as handwritten. It creates an interesting cadence and highlights the importance of the handwritten words. Once we learn that our main character loves to paint, she presents the title question, "What Color is a Kiss?"

In addition to being a cute and clever book, it's a great opportunity to practice colors with a child. While she answers her question with possibilities, the little girl presents a number of colors and shares some objects that are that color. In these explanations, the author presents more complicated ideas like literary devices and symbolism. Though these more advanced concepts will be beyond little ones, it's presented so that they will definitely understand most of it and will plant seeds for more advanced learning. Also, the art is cute.

This book is delightful, and I'd love to read it to my niece. When she gets a bit older, perhaps she could read it to me. I'd definitely add it to her growing bookshelf and recommend it.

Adorable book for the younger set. Who wouldn't want to read a playful book about colors and kisses? Love it and can't wait to read it to my granddaughter!

This is a super cute picture book about a little painter who wants to know how to paint a kiss. She explores all of the colors and still can't find the perfect description for a kiss.

The illustrations are adorable, and the concept is cute as well. This would be a great gift for soon-to-be parents or parents with small children.

This is a cute, beautiful, vibrant illustrated picture book about a little girl who wonders what is the colour of a kiss? She knows the colour of many other things and as she thinks about each one, she comes up with what she likes about that colour and what she does not like. She knows that veggies are green, she knows that lips are red, and that night time monsters are black, but she can't figure out what colour best works for kisses. With the help of her mother, she decides they are all colors. This is a great book to teach about colours and to give kids the chance to name different things that are each colour. The illustrations alone would give children the opportunity to talk about his book even if they can not read the words. This is a great book to be in all kindergarten and primary classrooms as well as family libraries.

In “What Colour is a Kiss?”, Rocio Bonilla encourages children to use their imagination with this very unique question.

Putting on my ‘’teacher hat”, I appreciated the focus on each colour, one a time, through the well-detailed illustrations. They would provide for a good discussion during a picture walk. Children will likely relate to Monica’s thoughts about each colour, and could easily be encouraged to include their own thoughts about them, as well, which addresses an oral language component in literacy.

I thought it was interesting that it did not cater to stereotypical thinking (Monica “cannot stand fairies or princesses”), which could also generate discussions in the classroom and broaden a student’s way of thinking/seeing the world around him/her.

Potentially, it could also be useful, cross-curricularly (introducing an art lesson, discussing different ways of illustrating when creating a story, etc.).

One concern, however, was that it would likely be difficult for children to read to themselves if they are not familiar with cursive writing, which is used at the beginning of the book in a few instances.

Is a kiss red or blue? What about black or white? How does a kiss make you feel? What does it represent? This adorable story is well illustrated too.

Charming art and a wonderful way to align colors to moods and favorite + not so favorite things. What I would've loved was for her to clarify that kisses are made of rainbows (I mean, c'mon. Everyone knows that!), but the author chose to depict it in varied patterns instead, which I did think was rather clever.

What a beautiful and delightful kids book! This sweetly illustrated children's book is about a girl pondering the color of a kiss. She knows other colors; knowing that water is blue and her veggies are green, and she decides that a kiss is all colors. This is charming book that teaches children about colors. Highly Recommend!

What a cute book! My son (3.5) really enjoyed all of the colors and illustrations, as well as trying to guess what color a kiss was. ;) I really like the art style and think it works really well with the text! The story itself is simple, but is a great example of "less is more."

Monica loves to paint! As she tries to figure out what color to paint a kiss, we see her adorable watercolor illustrations. I think the book is good for art teachers as well as just a sweet book in general. I received this book free to review from Netgalley. It is beautiful and inspiring and I highly recommend it.

This book was adorable! We loved all of the colors and how the drawings really came to life. I liked that you could feel every picture, and practically taste those cupcakes! My son says kisses are red, but I think they could be lots of colors!

* About the art:
I love the artwork by Rocio Bonilla: original, attractively arty and sketchy, fresh, child-friendly and sweet without being cloyingly cute. I liked also that the main character, Monica, is a not-very-girly girl, so that girls would relate to her being a girl, but boys may relate to her too because she's not overly girly.

* About the story and text:
Originally in Spanish, translated into English, this is a non-rhyming picture book, with anything between 1-3 sentences per every page. The length feels just right and the story follows Monica's thought processes as she wonders what color a kiss would be. She lists all the things she associates with each color as she explores which color would be the best fit.. and in the end, we discover what color a kiss is :)

* About what it teaches:
It teaches about colors, associating them with different things eg in the book red is the color of ladybugs, spaghetti and anger! Whilst green is the color of crocodiles and vegetables like broccoli, chard, peas and artichokes.

* Overall:
A fun and creative way to teach children about colors - with a few deeper than expected ideas (like red being the color of anger, or blue being the color of sadness). I'd happily recommend this book - it's a really sweet and fun one with beautiful, high quality artwork to boot.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK! It has cuteness, anticipation, non-traditionalism and humor...I mean I cracked up when we got to brown. This would be a great addition to any library, school or home. Did I say again that I loved this?? Best of all is that the children can give their own ideas on what color they think a kiss is...even turn it into an art lesson! LOVE!

Fun and creative color exploration book. Monica loves to paint and she can paint most anything, but she wonders what color a kiss would be. She reviews different and fun scenarios, even a few are unexpected. Beautifully illustrated and fun to read, my kids kept guessing at what she would imagine next.

Monica loves to ride her bike like the wind, likes swallows, strawberry cake, listening to stories her mother tells her and watering the plants on her balcony, but the thing she loves the very, very best is PAINTING!

She paints red ladybugs, blue skies, yellow bananas (just to name a few) but guess what? She has never painted a kiss. Mmmmm! What color is a kiss? She tries to figure out the best color but to no avail. For example she asks:

"Is a kiss white as snow?
Or bright as the moon and stars?

(Mmmmm...no...)

But kisses are warm...
and snow is so cold!?"

"Yellow? I love the color of Sunflowers...
and good ideas. Because good ideas are yellow, aren't they?

(Mmmmm...no...)

Although kisses are sweet as honey...
I do NOT like BEES!!!"

Poor Monica cannot decide which is the correct color to dip her brush into to paint those kisses she so longs to create? How can she find out the answer? Can she Google and get the answer there? I doubt it. Will she just close her eyes and pick a random color, whatever colour the brush lands in leaving it to fate? No Monica is more clever than that. Wise little Monica seeks council from the best kiss-giver ever... Mmmmmm?... wonder who that could be?

You will love the illustrations I know. They are whimsical, cartoonish and witty. Kids will be delighted with the humour sprinkled throughout and giggles will ensue. I am sure kids will weigh in giving their own opinions as to what color they think a kiss should be. It is a delightful tale that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. I highly recommend this little gem of a book. What is color would you choose?

What a precious story! It would be a great book to go along with Oliver Jeffers books and perfect for inspiring creative thinking during a color study. I loved the illustrations and found the ending absolutely delightful.

4.5ish stars.

With whimsical illustrations and a warm, endearing, relatable story, I could see this becoming a favorite for many families. Lots of opportunities for speculation and interaction are embedded for young children to engage in with their parents. (What else is blue? What do you like that is pink? Do you like black sheep, too?) It also provides opportunity for bonding and establishing secure attachment to caregivers. I would use this in a pre-school learning environment and in a home setting. I also appreciated the subtle non-conformity to gender roles ("I cannot stand fairies or princesses") and the sporadically hand-written words to personalize it a little bit.

Cute book with a unique concept. A little girl loves to paint. She paints everything, but she's never painted a kiss. What color is a kiss, anyway? It could be red, like tomato sauce. But isn't red the color of anger? It could be gray like hippos and elephants, but gray is also dull and depressing. In the end, the girl's mother shows her that a kiss is really every color you can imagine.

The illustrations are nice... quirky, but not creepy. I also loved how the girl's personality really shines through as you're finding out what she likes and dislikes. (She dislikes most vegetables, but likes artichokes "just a little bit.") This is a book that fits well into the "Mommy loves you genre" and the "let's learn your colors" genre. And it'd also make a pretty nice read-a-loud for a preschool group.

*NetGalley gave me an advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the illustrations that lined this book. Some of the text felt a bit choppy while I was reading, but it would make for a fantastic read aloud before an art project in the primary grades.

What Color is a Kiss by Rocio Bonilla is a picturebook that was originally published in 2015, but has a new edition being published on December 6 2016. Sassy and intrepid Monica loves to paint and sees her world in every color of the rainbow, but the color to paint a kiss is a question that nags at her. She paints and paints, hoping to discover the answer. With the help of her mother, Monica discovers that kisses and love come in all colors.

What Color is a Kiss is a sweet and creative way to explore colors, concepts, and creativity. Monica loves to paint and create. Her current project is to paint a kiss, but what color should it be? She explores the positives and negatives of several colors- listing the good and bad things that she associates with them- not finding just the right shade in her exploration. When her mother stops in and gives a moment of affection Monica comes to realize than any color can be a kiss, and every color can show love. A simple and sweet story that is good for exploring creativity, self expression, and colors.

I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations were bright and colorful. They wonderfully depicted the mood of each page. The little girl is conflicted about the color of kisses becasue she can find both good and bad things of each color. To her, kisses don't have a bad, so how can they be any of the colors she has found bad for? I loved experiencing the good and bad of each color with her on her journey to discover that kisses can be any color and every color at once. The fantastic illustrations made this a success in my book.
