This book was wonderful! The pictures of the orchards added to the text. It was a delight to see pictures and get recipes from orchards I have visited. The recipes were a nice mix of easy to complex.. They illustrated the unique tastes that are truly New England. This book is a terrific read and a true gem to those who love to cook with fresh, homegrown produce!

I tried some of the recipes and it was an even split on whether my family liked them better than the versions I usually made, but it is always fun to at least try new things.

The stories about the different orchards and fruits were very interesting and informative.

The New England Orchard Cookbook is an excellent resource if you plan to visit New England orchards as the author has given information on how to find orchards, orchard etiquette, and a section detailing information about fruits normally found at the orchards. You will also find plenty of color photos and recipes too.

Recommend.

Great little cookbook for the farmer's market fan. It contains many delicious sounding recipes, many I can't wait to try.
It is about the farms and orchards in the New England states, and just reading the descriptions of them makes you want to book a road trip asap

This book is a combination of a cookbook and a kind of storybook with its many informations about the different kinds of fruit that can be found in the different orchards and about the orchards themselves. I really enjoyed browsing through it, reading here and there, checking out the one or the other recipe and watching all those amazing photographs.

Everything you ever wanted to know about orchards and fruit in New England - and much more than that - can be found in this book. Most of the recipes look and sound great and I look forward to trying them, whereas some other just give inspirations for own ideas but I love the variety and all those new ideas alongside more traditional recipes be it jam, pies, cake, biscuits or turkey or a crockpot apple cider beef stew or...well, a bunch of other delicious things. The recipes themselves are easy-to-follow and look rather foolproof to me with detailed information and good instructions.

For those who want to visit those orchards that are portrayed here in this book, there's a long list with adresses and websites at the back of the book. All in all a wonderful book if you are interested in orchards or cooking and baking or looking at gorgeous photographs.

Love fresh fruit? The New England Orchard Cookbook: Harvesting Dishes & Desserts from the Region's Bounty has dozens of mouthwatering recipes from orchards all over New England to use up the fresh fruit that is plentiful. The recipes aren’t just for fruit desserts; rather there are soups, salads, main dishes, breads, beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), brunch dishes, and desserts.

Having an abundance of zucchini in my kitchen, the first recipe I made was the Zucchini Apple Bread. Not only did it turn out picture-perfect, but everyone who tasted it had seconds. We love puffy pancakes, so the German Apple Pancake and also the Oven Cakes with Apples and Bacon will be added to our family brunch repertoire; they were both delicious. And the Apple, Bacon and Gorgonzola Puff Pastry Pizza was unique and addicting. Since pork and apples are a match made in heaven, there are several fabulous pork recipes: Pork and Apple Mini Burgers, Brined Pork Chops with Spicy Pear Chutney, and Pork Tenderloin with Savory apples to name a few. The book contains an excellent recipe for Crockpot Apple Cider Beef Stew which is great on a cold evening, and a quick, easy Apple Chicken Stir-Fry. Several other chicken and apple dishes are in the queue, as well as an Apple Broccoli Salad. The dessert offerings are mouthwatering, and it will take a while to get them all made – a bushel of apples is going to be easy to go through.

If you’ve ever wondered how cider is made, there is an interesting article on that, and good information on storing and using apples. Although there are a few recipes for cherries, pears, peaches, and plums, most of the recipes are for apples, a positive for apple lovers, but not so good for those who have an abundance of other fruits.

The book has excellent pictures, not only of the dishes, but also of the orchards where the recipes originated, as well as a short, well-written vignette of each orchard. These attributes make the book interesting to read as well as fun to cook from.

All told, The New England Orchard Cookbook: Harvesting Dishes & Desserts from the Region's Bounty is a good cookbook to own; it’s so beautiful, it can double as a coffee-table book, and is a perfect go-to when there is too much fruit that needs to be used up.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.

There are some cookbooks that after I have the opportunity to review them through Netgalley, I add to an online shopping cart, so I can buy a hardcover copy after the publication date. This is one of those cookbooks. I like to drive to the closest orchard throughout the year and I am thrilled that the author put together this book filled with delicious ideas for the things I bring home. I can't wait to try out many of these recipes for everything from smoothies and baked treats to savory dinners. (Yum!).

So that you can see what I mean, I am sharing some of the recipes here: Apple Pie; Cherry Oatmeal muffins; Crepes with Boiled Cider sauce; Apple Dumplings; Peach cake; Peach Jam; Fruit Buckle; Microwave Peach Crisp; German Apple Pancakes; Caramelized Apple and Gorgonzala Panini; Cider Brined Turkey; Apple Cider Cooked Farro; Apple Maple Walnut Biscotti; Dried Apples; Poached Pears; Freezing Apples for Pies; Apple Harvest Cake; Apple Loaf; Stuffed Sugar Pumpkin; Chocolate Zucchini Bread; Frozen Peach Filling For a Peach Pie; Apple Crisp; pumpkin Mousse Roll; Fire Cider Recipe; Cinnamon-Peach Cottage Cheese Pancakes; Pork Apple Mini Burgers; Grilled Asian Shrimp Skewers with pears; Balsamic Fig Glazed Pear Topped Chicken Breast; Spicy Fish Tacos with Pear Mango Salsa; Golden Delicious Risotto; Apple Sweet Potato Bake and Zucchini Apple Bread.

I highly recommend this addition for your cookbook shelf.

This is much more than a cookbook! There are gorgeous photos of fruits & orchards, plus in the beginning this is how the cookbook starts. It talks about the different fruits found in New England. If talking about cherries, it shows a nice picture of fresh cherries & talks about best places to find each fruit. Also the states where fruits can be found in New England area, giving background i. e. Massachusetts --it goes back & tells as far as pilgrim times in that state

The cookbook itself has a nice variety & it presents recipes after the area that talks about a certain food. Apple pie recipe is given after the section talks about apples, best kind for baking etc ( whole background on the food) then it gives the recipes that can be made by such foods. Some recipes seem a bit harder for a novice such as myself, but for those who love baking & cooking & arebt afraid to "dive in" & give these recipes a try, I believe you'll have a very refined, well made food from the recipe

I really enjoyed reading about the different fruits, where they're found & the backgrounds of each plus the photography adds just a gorgeous touch yo this cookbook

My mouth watered just looking at this cover so I figured why not request this review copy. OMG! I love the pictures in this book. I have always wanted to visit New England, and now with this book I am to stop at a orchard. This book has amazing recipes that look clean and fresh. I have not had a chance to try any of the recipes but cannot wait to do so. If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter you will definitely see when I try it out.

Looked at this book for my monthly column on recipes to use with book club groups. Also loved how it fit in with the idea of a cookbook being as much about the stories of food (in this case the orchards where the fruit comes from) as the recipes themselves! This review is also pre-programmed to go live OCTOBER 1, 2016, and I have provided the permalink to help find it after it goes live. Thanks again!

My family loves fruit, and this book gave me many more delicious ideas on how to use it! My food will never be as gorgeous as the photos in this book, but that's ok, because it is delicious!

This has very nice recipes to make. But the book is more are tourist guide to the apple orchard of New England, I was expecting a little more information about the type of apples used. We have a large heritage orchard and a lot of our apples are either eating or cooking apples and even within these two classifications there are variants. I like the cider aspect in this book and the use of the apples in cooking are interesting.

4 Stars - I recommend if you like New England or rustic fruit desserts and recipes. I'm such a lover of cobblers, crisps, and pies of all kinds. This book is not limited to desserts though! If unique salads, fruity panini, or fruity barbecued meats are right up your alley, consider checking out these recipes!

This darling book is a collection of New England orchard recipes and orchards around the region, as well and tips and tricks for visiting said orchards. From orchard etiquette to a full directory of orchards mentioned in the book (organized by state) this is quite the resource for anyone who wants to do seasonal picking and cooking. Also, apparently New Englanders eat pie for breakfast. Who wouldn't love that?! We should all be New Englanders, I say! The recipes range from classics like apple pie and cherry cobbler, to things like fresh salads, savory tarts, panini, quesadillas, sangrias, smoothies, and canned goods. I appreciate the wide variety of fruit recipes in this book, it even includes helpful hints on freezing, microwave recipes, and grilling tips. One of my very favorite ways to cook meat is with jams or fruit - so I cannot wait to try many of these recipes!
