Description

I'm Payton Blake. A successful, balanced twenty-something girl living the dream.

OK. So it's a big-ass lie.

I could be all of those things. If I had friends outside of work. And if I didn't mainline watermelon slushies like they were a food group. It wouldn't hurt if I'd had sex in the last year, either. (My best friend insists Jorge the Nightstand Boyfriend doesn't count.)

But when you know where you're headed, who needs to enjoy the ride?

Even if part of me longed for a little between-the-sheets adventure, Max Donovan would be the last guy I'd call.

Sure, he made the indie video game that broke the internet. His eyebrow piercing's sexy, in an 'are-you-in-a-band?' way, and fighting with him gets me off faster than Jorge on bezerker mode. But he's arrogant. Presumptuous. Colder than a cactus and twice as prickly.

None of it matters because I crave Max Donovan like a watermelon slushy on a hot summer day.

I should ignore him. But I can't, because he just became my biggest client. And whether he'll admit it or not, he needs me even more than I need him.

Game on, Max Donovan.

I'm Payton Blake. A successful, balanced twenty-something girl living the dream.

OK. So it's a big-ass lie.

I could be all of those things. If I had friends outside of work. And if I didn't mainline...

A Note From the Publisher

PLAY is a quirky 70k standalone about life, love, and video games (and occasionally vibrators). Recommended for 18+ as it contains my favorite trifecta: hot guys, steamy scenes, and four-letter words. As Max Donovan would say... "You're welcome."

Okay, before I start, I just want to say, the blurb for this book is hilarious & if that alone doesn't make you want to read it, there's something wrong with you. So jumping straight in, Payton & Max are more enemies than anything. Max needs a loan & Payton needs to approve it. Wires get crossed, there's a bruised head & the Dick Whisper messes up. Max is far too chilled out & unprofessional looking be be her client, right? Wrong! It all goes off from there. Max & Payton have lots of rows & their arguing is seriously entertaining. The passion coming off these pages is amazing. The sex once the story got going was out of this world, panty-wetting HOT! I really wished I was Payton, just to be in these scenes! The titles for each chapter are well thought out & they made me want to keep reading to find out what they meant. Some of them were completely random, most of them were just brilliantly funny. I don't want to give too much away, but Max makes games for a living; him & Payton are from really different worlds. It was really nice to see that Payton changed her views quickly - realising that Max's team at Titan worked incredibly hard & that what they did was a real job. Just because they didn't sit behind a big desk crunching numbers all day, didn't mean they were slackers. Their first trip on Max's boat was when we got to see a little more of Max. I really enjoyed that. He was really closed off & that's when we find out why. Charlie & Riley were great background characters. The pranks that Charlie pulled on Avery were just epic! There were some exceptional scenes in this book that were so well written & laugh-out-loud, I'm-actually-crying funny. The incident with Jorge & Payton's dirty talk being just a couple! Although a bit sad, but not predictable, were a few parts where Payton couldn't be like, 'don't worry, Max, mom, I've got this!' I was really hoping for her to fix everyone's problems. As much as I truly loved that the story was told by Payton, is was really great that the epilogue was from Max. There were a few tiny errors - the odd word missing & some punctuation, but I could totally look past that when the rest of the book was fantastic! (When I say 'tiny' errors, I mean they were tiny! Nothing to detract from the book at all!) Thank you for allowing me an early copy of this book. I will definitely read it again, & again! This is the second book I have read by Piper Lawson & I will be first in line for the next ones, trust me! 5/5*

This is one of the best books I've read in while. I am absolutely smitten...with the characters, with the story, with the author's writing style...basically the whole package. This is the kind of book that my husband hates for me to read because he wants to know what's so funny! The book is full of everything I love in a romance novel: laugh-out-loud moments, a fair share of angst, plenty of steam, likeable characters that you can't help but root for, and a compelling story that makes the book impossible to put down. This is the first book I've read by Ms. Lawson, and I will now read everything I can get my hands on.
