Description

Princess Teia, daughter of Judah’s last king, begins a harrowing journey after she’s rescued by the Prophet Jeremiah from the burning city of Jerusalem. They flee to Egypt, where amid Teia’s efforts to cope with devastating loss comes an unexpected awakening of her heart when she meets Eochaid, a foreign prince. The two young nobles fall in love, but are soon forced to part and follow their preordained destines of ruling separate nations.

Against the backdrop of daring escapes on land and sea, raging sword battles, and deadly sorcerers, an emotional journey ensues across multiple continents for both Teia and Eochaid. All the while they’re unaware that God’s steady hand guides their paths as part of his plan to restore Judah’s everlasting throne—as symbolized by the sacred stone that Israel’s patriarch Jacob once used as a pillow in the wilderness.

D. A. Brittain writes adventure-filled stories that illustrate biblical truth through compelling and realistic characters. In addition to being a passionate student of the Bible and ancient history, she has traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East, giving her the opportunity to research and explore the land, historic sites, and larger-than-life heroes and heroines appearing in Judah’s Scepter and the Sacred Stone, the first in a series of historical novels.

The story begins and ends in the present day in England that gives it relevance to what was revered in ancient times is still treasured today.
In 586 BC, Jerusalem was destroyed and Jeremiah, God's prophet, escapes with the last royal survivors and a group of refugees. By boat they travel first to Egypt - where an encounter with British seafarers starts the group on a long sea journey full of violent adventures and saved by God's guiding words through Jeremiah, his prophet.
The characters are so realistic and beautifully crafted - the research in these ancient worlds is immaculate and it feels like you are right there with them in a village in Egypt or in the violent storm on the Atlantic - it reads like a movie script.

This was one of my all-time favorites. It was so well written. I found myself feeling like I was there. Very descriptive, I was crying, smiling, cringing, excited, scared and a host of other feelings. I love that it is a historical love story. I love that it kept me wanting to read it up until the very end. Can't wait for the next book to be available.

An enjoyable read, even if you're not a believer in God.

The book begins with the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem and Jeremiah saving the lives of two princesses. From that point on, the story is largely a work of fiction that comes from the author's imagination.

This is an interesting book with well developed characters and details from the time in which they lived. I liked how the author added a lot of internal struggle for the main princess, Teia; D. A. Brittain did a very good job of letting the reader see how difficult it was for Teia to always follow God's leading through Jeremiah when she didn't always want to.

This is a good book for fans of Biblical fiction.

I was given a copy of Judah'a Scepter and the Sacred Stone through the publisher and Netgalley:

This book takes us back in time to 586 BC Princess Teia when her parents flee but they cannot find her, so she must stay with the tutors. Most of the citizens were either held Captive or murdered, Jerusalem had fallen.

Princess Teia rescues the Prophet Jermiah from a burning building, and survivors, the war that has destroyed Jerusalem. Finally she is able to flee to Egypt where she meets Eochaib and the two nobles fall in love.

I give Judan's Scepter and the Sacred Stome five out of five stars.

Happy reading.

The prose was written well enough, but not to the point of drawing me in emotionally which was disappointing. I don't think the outcome of Teia's and Eochaid's relationship being so easy to foretell helped. The religious aspect of the book with all the biblical quotes seemed a bit preachy at the end. ( It didn't bother me, but some it might) I did find the lifestyle of that time interesting to hear about because I LOVE hearing about the time period .

What a great story! Travel with Jeremiah, his scribe, Baruch, a small group of Israelites and a princess as they escape the wrath of Nebuchadnezzar, sojourn for a while in Egypt and escape from ruthless pirates! Jeremiah carries the stone that Jacob used for a pillow from Jerusalem through their exile to its final resting place.
The book of Jeremiah comes alive through a teenagers eyes as she has to conceal her identity, learn of her father's' and brothers' deaths and keep her faith through many trials as she reaches her final destination.

This title blends Scripture with fiction as you follow the journey of the Princess Teia from the destruction of Jerusalem to her ultimate home in the islands of Brittania. Her 'guide' is the prophet, Jeremiah. The telling of this story is 'wrapped' in modern times with the coronation of the new King of England.

Along the way, you get a glimpse into how life would have been as well as a sweet love story that develops. The only section of the story which did not keep my enraptured was the end when 2 characters start going on about the end of the world coming. All I could figure for that part is the author's attempt to set up future stories.

I could tell that the author did a fantastic job of research. The story did awaken a desire for me to read the Scripture which initiated the story and now I want to explore more of the documentation referenced.
