I liked this book well enough. The mixture of stories were interesting, some I thought were better written than others. None of the stories are extremely long, so they work well if you are looking for something to read during a lunch break at work.
I was impressed with the last few stories in particular. I thought all of the short stories worked really well as part of this anthology, each of them fit the theme well. If you enjoy light horror and mystery, then this is a book you will most likely want to read.
With such an array of stories, there is sure to be something here for just about everyone. Most of the stories are ghost and haunting themed.
Overall, this was a really good book and I definitely recommend it to others who like paranormal fiction.
This review is based on a complementary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
A wonderful collection of short stories by 26 authors. There were several writers I recognized but many were names I didn't know. All the stories are ghost stories that run the gamut of locations and situations. I particularly enjoy the ghosts that befriend children and become their champion. Each story is short and easy to read. A great anthology for teen to adult readers.
"Cast No Shadows" is a very entertaining anthology of YA ghost stories. Most of the stories are short and well written. They range from the traditional, historical haunted house tropes to the new urban myth genre.
The stories are all appealing in their own way. Some sentimental, some scary, all a lot of fun to read. A great read for someone interested in a good ghost story!
I'm a big fan of anthologies. Short stories are hard to write well, and I really appreciate the efforts of those who create them. So when I had the opportunity to read an anthology from Curiosity Quills, I was very happy to do so.
It has been a really long time since I've read a story about ghosts, and I was a bit worried about it - I'm a total scaredy cat. But Cast No Shadows struck a really good balance. There were definitely stories that were terrifying - I still have one stuck in my head that had a truly disturbing ending. No spoilers though! But there were also a couple stories with a more thoughtful and mysterious bent toward spirits and hauntings.
Overall the book was well organized, with some great story choices. There were a couple that could have definitely used a bit more character development, but it really didn't bring down the overall quality of the anthology.
So... confession time. I read this at Halloween, so this review is a bit late! And it was perfectly suited to be read at that time. But don't let the holiday season deter you - this book would be a fun read in front of the fire too.
Cast No Shadows is now available for purchase. Enjoy the creepiness!
