Okay, it looks like this is an unpopular opinion at the moment, but this one didn't do much for me. I love this series, and I'm so happy that I got an ARC. This particular installment was disappointing for me. It didn't really pick up until the second half, and there are so many secondary characters, distracting side stories, and time jumps that by the time I *was* invested, I was also confused, and the high stakes fell flat. Three stars up from 2.5.
Thank you very much to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!

I have been a huge fan of the Mercy Thompson series since listening to the first book so I was very excited to see Winter Lost available as an ARC. The quality of writing, characters, and story continue to exceed expectations. What I appreciate most about this series is that each book balances continuing plot with the story unique to each book. The characters and their relationship to each other and their world grow in every book. Winter Lost was no exception. The rich world building keeps me coming back for every book. I can't wait to hear the audio version.

Wow! Amazing story telling as always. I love this series. This book answered some questions from the last few books, but also left me with several new ones I look forward to having answered in the future. I can't wait to see the big standoff with the Vampire lord.

Love this author, love this series. It's a really strong continuation, and very much am interested in where she's going with the series. A really fun read, and it reads a bit as a bridge to what's coming next, but I'm realllly excited for what comes next. One of the best UF writer's out there today!

Great continuation of the series, Patricia Briggs is really setting up the chessboard for the next Mercy book and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds! I really enjoyed this one, a great Adam/Mercy storyline, but the lack of pack was a bummer.

Winter Lost is Patricia Brigg’s latest installment of the Mercy Thompson series and finds Mercy’s brother in trouble when he shows up unable to communicate with anyone in any way. Mercy and Adam retrace his steps and find themselves on a mission to stop Ragnarök, save a wedding, and find a winter god’s missing instrument.

This is a fantastic installment in Mercy’s series. Like a few others, there are different viewpoints, but they aren’t part of the main story and don’t distract from it. Rather, they give a view of the pack back home, showcasing each of the wolves as the stars they are. It was wonderfully done and develops each character well.

Mercy and Adam each progress in their character arcs, too, as they deal with the lingering effects of Bonarata and the Soul Taker. After her encounter with the artifact, Mercy’s soul is damaged in a way that even Zee can’t fix, and she has lost her sass when it comes to the vampire overlord. Adam is still figuring out his werewolf differences as it comes to the third shape he can shift into and his control over pack bonds. They both struggle with the idea that Bonarata is coming—and based on his torturous phone calls, that may be soon—but they definitely are better prepared by the end of this book.

All in all, Winter Lost was a wonderful story and leaves Mercy and the pack in good shape for whatever they end up against next.

Winter Lost is yet another fun addition to Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson (Hauptman) series! Tension abounds as Mercy and Adam go on a quest to help Mercy's half-brother Gary lift a debilitating curse. Mercy is still raw from her run-in with the Soul Taker, and finds herself attracting unwanted attention from all sorts of magical creatures. Throw in some mythical jötun, an apocalyptic wedding, and a missing harp, and Mercy has her work cut out for her this time.

While we get various viewpoints in Winter Lost, the focus of this installment is definitely Mercy's wellbeing (or lack thereof). She's doing her best to seem okay, but with a gaping wound in her soul and no fix in sight, she's not fooling anyone, especially Adam. The tone of this installment is a departure from the past few books--less action-packed and more "a storm is coming." It seems like Briggs is gearing up for a real humdinger soon...especially with Bonarata waiting in the wings. I, for one, can't wait to see what Mercy gets up to next!

This series is great for urban fantasy readers, but don't start with Winter Lost, or you'll soon be lost yourself! Each book builds on previous ones, and they're all great, so start at the beginning with Moon Called if you're new to Mercy Thompson. Fans of Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison, and Ilona Andrews will really love Mercy's strong character and unique problem-solving skills (not to mention Adam's hotness)! Mercy never disappoints, and I always look forward to her next adventure.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing Group and Ace for providing me an advance reading copy of Winter Lost. My review is, as always, truthful and unbiased, and I hope it helps introduce readers to books they will love!

As an avid fan of Patricia Briggs' series, each new installment is a highly anticipated event for me. Winter Lost, the latest addition, does not disappoint. Briggs once again demonstrates her mastery of storytelling by weaving a well-crafted plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

In this installment, we find Mercy grappling with the wounds inflicted upon her soul and magic, while her loyal pack and friends stand by her side. When her cursed brother enters the picture, Mercy and Adam embark on a perilous journey to Montana, where they confront not only a killer storm but also a sinister force threatening to unleash chaos upon the world unless its demands are met.

One of the highlights of Winter Lost is the dynamic between Mercy and Adam. Their bond is as strong as ever, and following their adventures is always a delight. Briggs seamlessly blends magic, action, and emotion, creating a narrative that is both captivating and immersive.

While Winter Lost introduces several new characters and storylines, it occasionally suffers from an overabundance of narrators, making it challenging to keep track of who is telling the story. However, once the focus shifts back to Mercy, the pace picks up, and the story becomes unforgettable.

Although Winter Lost serves as a bridge to future adventures, it is a must-read for fans of the series. While there may not be a cliffhanger ending, there are enough unresolved challenges to pique readers' interest and leave them eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Winter Lost is a thrilling tale that offers insight into beloved characters and sets the stage for future developments within the pack.
It' gets a solid 4.5 stars for me and reaffirms Patricia Briggs' status as a master of urban fantasy.

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for the advanced copy. Below you'll find my honest review.

I've been eagerly anticipating the next Mercy novel since the very second I finished the last one. If you remember correctly, the last one left Mercy's spiritual self a little damaged, and this one picks up that story thread. It also brings back the story threads involving her Coyote heritage, including her brother Gary. Throw in some seriously cool (cold joke, see what I did there?) Norse mythology, along with the addition of a new (to the series at least) Native/Indigenous American spirit.

We get a lot of Mercy and Adam's relationship, which is great, but we also get little Interludes that give a little more interaction with some of the other major characters, from the Pack especially, including an absolutely hilarious and awesome moment for Warren and Sherwood.

I loved this one, and now begins the long, long wait until the next Mercyverse novel from Patty Briggs. I believe it's going to be an Alpha & Omega one, too!

When Mercy's brother Gary shows up at her house confused and unable to speak, it's clear something is very wrong. She and Adam brave a magical winter storm in the cabinet mountains of Montana to figure out what happened to Gary and how they can fix it. Of course nothing is ever easy for Mercy, especially when Coyote is involved.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I was going to. When I first started, I noticed that the POV kept changing, and I had a hard time adjusting to it - this is a big departure from the previous books in the series where Mercy is the main narrator. Eventually, I got into the groove of it and really enjoyed Mercy's latest adventure. Daryl and Aurielle's Mexico adventure was super glossed over, but I love the addition of more creatures and gods.

My library will definitely be purchasing, and I eagerly anticipate the next Mercy Watson (or Alpha and Omega) book.

Mercy is on another adventure this time with Adam into the mountains of Montana. This book is a bit different than her other books as you get a glimpse of different characters in different parts of the timeline. I wasn’t a fan of this set up as it felt like it kept interrupting the story.
Mercy, as always, is funny and witty. You see a little more into her relationship with Adam. You see Adam as Adam Mercy’s husband. Not Adam the Alpha. He too is changing as Mercy as changing and it’s going to be interesting to find out how that all ties in.
Together they embark on finding another artifact with an added twist. Find the Lyre or bring about the end of the world. Que the music! Dun! Dun! Dun!
Out of all the Mercy books. This may have been my least favorite. It had all the pieces of a Mercy adventure but something is missing. I may have to read it again when it comes out then update my review.

Great addition to the Mercy Thompson series. Read in one sitting which is the mark of a good book in my world! Will definitely be recommending to my patrons, and to my fellow fantasy nerds

Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs is a Mercy Thompson story, set in the winter in Montana and the author manages to convey the cold and loneliness of the country. This time Mercy and Adam are trying to help her half-brother who is cursed by a Frost Giant. All of our favorite characters are here and the story moves well.

Not written in the same style as previous books, this newest addition to the story does not disappoint! Loved the ending and how threads were tied together. Can't wait for the next Mercy book!

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Patricia Briggs adds another wonderful installment to the Mercy Thompson series with Winter Lost. Mercy's half-brother shows up on her doorstep cursed after a mission from Coyote goes south (or does it - one never knows when Coyote is involved). Mercy and Adam pick up where her brother left off in rural Montana and get caught up in the schemes of Norse frost giants.

As with all her books, Briggs brings a fast paced and exciting plot, with a killer sense of pacing and flow. Reading her books is like eating chocolate - I just finished my first bite; how can I be done already! My only major complaint was that every chapter was separated by an interlude that either had minimal relevance to the main plot, or the relevance wasn't clear until much later, breaking up the flow to the otherwise linear narrative. I like the occasional perspective change to add depth to otherwise unreliable narrators, but the number of pov's included seemed unnecessary.

Mercy and Adam also spent most of this book away from their pack and I missed them! That said, there was at least one most excellent scene between Warren and Sherwood worth waiting for. These two are now my new favorite pair.

As soon as I saw a new Mercy Thompson book was coming out, I knew I had to read it. This series by Patricia Briggs is one of my favorites.

I really enjoyed this one. Had a hard time putting it down, so I could sleep, work, etc....

I loved getting to see POV from others beside Mercy. And loved to see how all the characters work together to do what needed to be done. And I'll be interested to see what's next.

Thanks Netgalley, Berkley Publishing Group. and Patricia Briggs for giving me the oppportunity to read this book.

I love Mercy Thompson and will never stop reading this series. That being said, I found the lack of cohesion with the interludes confusing, and I just wanted more. Was there a point that I missed? Or were these random side character tidbits there just to take up space?

Mercy’s back, but not whole after her outing in Soul Taken, and that’s weighing heavily on Adam and the Pack. But that won’t stop her from jumping to action when her brother arrives on their doorstep bespelled and unable to communicate. They’ll need to ask the Frost Giant in Montana who cast the spell to remove it, but that will pull them into the workings of a much larger spell and with webs connecting to many other stories. Briggs’ ability to spin a web of connections and explore a wide range of mythologies and histories has always been the draw for me and she had fun with this one. Not the place for new readers to start, but definitely a good addition to the series.

I love this series so much. The story, the friendships, they pack dynamic and the way the characters keep growing and bonding, keeps readers hooked. I was a bit confused by some of the perspective switches and the timeline, but that just meant that I read it again and enjoyed it even more. Hope for more of Gary's story at some point, but it was great seeing him again.

Mercy’s brother, Gary, shows up at her house traumatized and unable to speak. Mercy, even though her magic has been screwed up by a fae artifact, heads to Montana to try and convince the ancient creature responsible for the spell to release him. Too bad he can summon the blizzard of the ages! Along with Adam, Mercy has to figure out how to find his stolen harp to save Gary and ,no pressure, the world.
Another great installment in the series. Thanks Netgalley for the ARC. My opinions are my own.
