This book is one of the best vegan cookbooks I have read in a while. It has so many unique recipes which I have never come across before. There is a good mix of different cultural influences, especially from East, South East, and South Asia. I'm South Asian myself and I'm extremely excited to try some of these recipes as I haven't been able to eat some things due to them having dairy in them. I normally read a cookbook cover to cover before trying recipes and see how many I'd actually make or actually be able to make, depending on accessibility to ingredients.
Adele gives ingredient amounts in more than one measurement (which is absolutely helpful for fellow Canadians!) and from what I can see, most ingredients are available to Canadians (especially in Toronto). I'd say there's a good 75% of recipes which I am really looking forward to making! For me personally, if there's at least 50% of recipes I want to make, a cookbook is worth the purchase. I also really appreciated the lack of soy recipes, as lots of vegan cookbooks just use too much soy.
There were only a couple things that I was missing in this book. One was that there didn't seem to be a picture for each recipe. I wish there was! The other thing is that I really wished there were more alternatives for ingredients. More specifically, for a fresh version of something compared to say a paste. One example would be fresh lemongrass versus the paste. It is not the easiest to find fresh lemongrass but when I do, it's in extremely large quantities so I buy paste. I understand fresh is best but it's not always what makes sense. This isn't that big of an issue for me as I usually eyeball amounts for conversions such as these, but it may not work for everyone.
Overall I am very happy with this book. I look forward to purchasing my own copy and trying these recipes. I hope there are more planned cookbooks coming soon!
