In 1955, she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Her courageous decision had a huge impact on civil rights, eventually leading to the end of segregation on public transport. She never stopped working for equal rights. The story and life of Rosa Parks, the civil rights activist, is an inspiring and incredible one which everyone should hear about. This book addresses her life and the way in which she stood up for herself and her civil rights in such a simple but effective way. There is just enough information so as not to overload young readers, whilst still putting across the pertinent points. The 'Little People, Big Dreams' series covers lots of inspiring figures from over the years, and I'll be looking out to read more of these. A collection of books that would be very useful in a young person's library.
Colorful, informative, and easy to understand. Perfect for younger kids to learn about great people in history.
Have been looking at this series of books every time I walk past them in any bookshop I enter, they are all wonderful titles and feature some iconic and inspiring women in them.
I have been waiting to see what the new additions would be like, so was excited to be given the opportunity to view this before release. A wonderful read & such a great introduction for children into the life of Rosa Parks to develop further reading. Would definitely recommend & buy this book for children I know & like minded friends who would like this book
This is a brilliant little book about a fascinating woman who needs to be remembered for the good that she did. I loved that this book is aged at a young age and will allow youngsters to learn more about this remarkable woman - 5 stars from me, the text, layout and images were all superb!
Great resource for elementary students. Very clear language and cute illustrations.
This wonderful book is the newest in the Little People, Dream Big series. This series unmasks wonderful individuals who although just ordinary people have made an extraordinary contribution to our world and our way of life. These stories are based on real-life people and are very interesting and educational for kids to read.
Rosa Parks, 'The Mother of the Freedom Movement', is an inspiring true story of a civil rights activist. She grew up in Alabama during the segregation era but always felt dignity and self-worth in such a condemning and ostracizing time. She was taught at home to stand up for her rights and respect herself.
In 1955, Rosa was riding on a bus and the bus driver asked her to give up her seat to a white man and go sit in the back of the bus with the other "coloured' folks. She simply said "no". She refused to budge. That simple two letter word, "no", started the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Others heard about her bravery to take a stand and refuse her unfair treatment so emboldened by Rosa's defiant stand they joined in to further her just cause.
All her life she fought for equal rights and fought back against adversity and injustice. The powerful lesson you learn? One little insignificant person can change the entire world. Every individual should be treated with fairness and respect no matter what race, colour or group they belong to. I highly recommend this book and this entire series.
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series. This beautiful picture book about Rosa Parks was the perfect addition to the collection! Everyone with a child (or a love of history!) should buy this book. It combines an important history lesson with lovely, colourful illustrations, and my girls love reading the series alone or with me. It gives us something to chat about and feeds their love of literature and history.
I love the idea behind the Little People, Big Dreams series. These non-fiction picture books each focus on the life of a well-known name, from artists and activists to designers and scientists, and show how they went from a child with a dream to achieving truly great things. They are perfect for inspiring children, and particularly girls, to follow their dreams. The series includes books on Agatha Christie, Coco Chanel, Emmeline Pankhurst, Marie Curie and many more.
Simple and effective, Rosa Parks tells the story of Rosa, from childhood through to being jailed after refusing to give her seat to a white person on the bus and inspiring the bus boycott in Montgomery. It’s very basic, especially for the older end of the publisher’s suggested age range (5 – 8), but it’s an effective way to start a conversation about racism and activism. A more detailed history of Rosa’s life is included in the back of the book, which adults might like to share with children or could be read alone by an older reader.
Marta Antelo’s illustrations are lovely. The book is full of imagery that will stick in the minds of children. I also loved the emphasis on working hard for change, even when it sometimes feels like nothing will ever come of it, and on the ability of one person to make a difference.
We need more books like this to inspire little people to make big changes, making the world a better place. In the words of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, “even if you are little, you can do a lot”.
Hands down the best picture book biography series that will not only add intellectual aesthetic appeal to any nursery, classroom or library but these books are simply spectacular from the story told to the vibrant illustrations!
Very easy to read, simple story of Rosa Parks, and why she is/was important in the story of the civil rights movement in the United States.
There is a lot more nuance to the bus boycot than is let on, in this simple book, but it is enough to give the kids the general idea, and that is what is important, these days.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Children are fascinated by the lives of others and this is a nice basic book about one of my granddaughter's favorite historical person, Rosa Parks. Nice illustrations and simple narrative about Ms. Parks. Great story for younger children.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

4 stars.
I had not known of Rosa Parks before reading this but Im very glad to have now been introducted to her. The whole time throughout this book I kept thinking, 'Go Rosa!' I am SO glad that she was apart of this world and I really admire her. She is strong, determined, and stood up for what she believed to be right (and she was 100% right!). I am proud of her and all she did. This book is important for people to know what the world was like and that its changed for the positive now, thanks to people like Rosa Parks. She is a great inspiration and a hero to many. This little book does an amazing job of introducing her to people and the illustrations are really well done. If you or your child is interested in what the world was like for 'coloured' people, how people of different skin colour were treated differently, then this is a great book to do just that. I am Caucasian but I am still so thankful and glad to know what Rosa Parks has accomplished.
Highly recommended.
This was such a lovely book that I would love to give to my future children. It's part of a series about powerful women who have achieved wonderful things and there's such a broad selection from Rosa Parks to Amelia Earhart to Maya Angelou to Coco Chanel to Audrey Hepburn to Agatha Christie to a few more. I think it's nice to give kids books about real women who achieved incredible things and it's a fabulous idea.
I thought the book itself was good. The art was so beautiful and I think that kids will love it. I personally would have liked a bit more information on Rosa but I also think that maybe it would have been the perfect amount of information for kids. The one thing that felt off to me was the writing and I think that could be because it's translated to English from a different language but I doubt kids will notice that to be honest.
I would 100% recommend this for kids. It's a good starting point to learn about Rosa Parks.

This is a new series that looks like it springs from Little Golden Books, called Little People Big Dreams. This edition looks at Rosa Parks and the lessons she learned from childhood. It was those lessons that helped her no give up her seat on the bus, and it was those lessons that partly maker her the icon she is today. This book has a great way of telling the story, but if I were honest I like the I am… series better.
Lisbeth Kaiser astound again with her Little People, Big Dreams series and Rosa Parks. Marta Antelo does a beautiful job filling Kaiser's words with illustrations so appropriate and kid-friendly. The explanation of Rosa's childhood and how that impacted who she became was excellent. The timeline at the end made the book even more real than it already was. This book showcases the power Rosa had even as a child. My hope is that this book inspires young children to stand their ground, stand up for others and be the change they want to see.
Another wonderful entry in the Little People Big Dreams series. Lisbeth Kaiser makes the civil rights struggle of African Americans accessible to the younger readers (grades 1-3), Readers will learn of the plight of blacks in south after the civil war until Rosa’s historic stand against racism in the 1960.
Little People, Big Dreams is a cute series with adorable illustrations and optimistic narratives; a new way to spark interest in biography as a genre. This book can be enjoyed in a short time with additional information and photographs included at the book's end. The overall theme of even one person making an impact will be easy for readers to recognize as well. Perfect for elementary readers, but even older readers would enjoy this book and it's message.
Closer to 3.5 stars, but the illustrations are a large part of its appeal.
A wonderful book about the amazing Rosa Parks. It is well written, informative and the illustrations eye catching. I will definitely be purchasing this (and the other books in this series) for my class! Thanks Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for the ARC.
Rosa Parks = what an inspiring person. I loved how the story was written. Children will learn a lot from this book. (I didn’t know that she needed to move, but I wasn’t surprised, either.) Very interesting!
