Description
You'll find exclusive excerpts of seven novels due for publication during January in this sampler. Buzz Books Monthlies are your first and best place to turn for a real insider's taste of what to read next, and what the book world will be talking about next month. As always, you can check out our extensive preview of new books of interest coming to market in the months ahead.
If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life? That’s the question Chloe Benjamin’s The Immortalists tries to answer in a sweeping novel about four siblings. Four cousins grapple with their artistic and genetic legacies in The Black Painting by Neil Olson.
Two of this month’s three debuts are psychological thrillers: A.J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window and Michelle Frances’s, The Girlfriend, while Everything Here is Beautiful by Mira T. Lee explores how mental illness affects the relationship between two sisters.
Finally, in young adult fiction, Marieke Nijkamp’s sophomore title, Before I Let Go, is a haunting mystery about best friends, and Everless is a fantasy debut by Sara Holland.
We hope you enjoy the monthly Buzz Books—keep an eye out for February Buzz Books available in early January. Also, remember that our twice-a-year Buzz Books includes new books from big authors and breakout talents through exclusive and substantial pre-publication excerpts. Read nearly 60 excerpts from the hottest books being published this season. And look for Buzz Books 2018: Spring/Summer in mid-January.

I love this type of catalog because it always keeps me updated on new releases!
Okay, now I definitely know I need to read "The Immortalists". I've had my eye on it for a while, but something was holding me back... however, the writing style is PERFECT. Frank and honest and a little bit gritty. Everless is also amazing, but I already knew that from the full arc - such a great concept and a standout addition to the ever-growing pile of YA fantasy.
Quite a few exciting reads coming up next month. I really enjoy these prints coming up each month and every season with easy access links to download/request the digital ARCs.
Always welcome, always good to read about forthcoming new books in this format. Take a look and plan what will occupy you this winter. .
I always look forward to reading the Buzz Books selections! I cannot wait to read the full novels!
It was interesting to read these excerpts, especially from the genres I don't usually read! I'm excited for Everless, which looks super neat, and some of the adult books are fascinating too.
Great selections as always! Especially looking forward to The Woman in the Window, The Girlfriend and Everless!
As always, I love getting a glimpse of all the new releases that are coming soon. I truly do love these catalogs!
Another great Buzz Book! I really enjoy these monthly colletions of excerpts for upcoming releases. I am really looking forward to The Immortalists in this batch of books and plan to feature it on my blog.
I love Publishers Lunch's Buzz Books Monthly - they give a nice taste of upcoming books, as well as adding multiple titles to an ever-growing TBR list...
Notable upcoming books include:
-Chloe Benjamin's The Immortalists (which is already on my list!)
-A. J. Finn's The Woman in the Window (a thriller, which sounds intriguing)
-Mira T. Lee's Everything Here is Beautiful (which sounds like an emotionally packed story of two sisters)
-Sara Holland's Everless (which sounds like an interesting YA fantasy, where blood is used to pay for time)
I can't wait to dive into these reads!
I always appreciate a new Buzz Books release, and that is especially true in months like January when there are SO many great books coming out. What better way to cull my January TBR than by comparing it to Buzz Books? The only thing that would make Buzz Books better is if it could find a way to add a few hours more to each day so I could have time to read all the great books. :)
This month didn't have that many excerpts that interested me, but I had never heard of The Immortalists, but now it's definitely on my to-read list!
The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn is now on my TBR list! Loved the sample I was able to read.
Super excited to see that Gregg Hurwitz and Neal Shusterman have books being released Jan2018!
Always love being able to see what is being released in the upcoming month and getting to read samples.
I love reading Buzz books because they give me a great idea of what I want to read that will be coming out soon! Thanks!!!
Love these Buzz Books! Every time I see a new one is available I quickly click the button and read it right away. I love being exposed to books I wouldn't normally even glance at. I love how you get to read a bit of the story to see if it's something you would like. Most of the previews have a link you can click on to request a copy!
Amazing edition! This one has excerpts from two of my most anticipated winter reads. Everless by Sara Holland and Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp. If you haven't checked these books you, I really encourage you to read the excerpt, it will leave you wanting more.
Thank you once again for this invaluable tool to readers and reviewers!
Brilliant way to find new books and authors. Also sampling the first chapter helps to decide what books to request.
So many great books to look forward to in 2018. I’m especially looking forward to The Woman In The Window by A J Finn. Sounds intriguing.
Once again a great lineup of forthcoming books. Some wonderful new Authors with interesting plots to get your teeth into.
I always love when this pops up in the books to request. I always find some great things in these. My only issue is that my Want to Read shelf on Goodreads is going to explode.
January's collection puts forward a varied and stellar collection of excerpts. I will be personally keeping an excited eye out both The Immortalists and Before I Let Go, which I found particularly intriguing.
Oh, yes, this was good. Individual thoughts on each chapter below:
The Immortalists— this one has been on my list forever and sounds supremely exciting. loved the writing and nostalgic tone.
The Black Painting— I feel as if I should've liked this more than I did. A full read-through would definitely give me firmer opinions, but I honestly don't think I'll bother; I'm super picky with my adult thrillers.
The Woman in the Window— first of all, what. and second of all, where can I buy this? that was such a well-written first chapter and I'm adding to my list immediately.
The Girlfriend— this one could be good, but honestly, nothing about this opening really grabbed me. Feels more domestic drama than thriller, somehow, although perhaps I'm wrong.
Everything Here is Beautiful— this was definitely intriguing, although I'm unsure if it's something I plan on picking up myself.
Before I Let Go— I actually skipped this one as I've already read it. While I adored Nijkamp's debut, this book was a big disappointment and felt very emotionally manipulative.
Everless— Made me even more excited for the release than I was before. Damn, this read so well.
These selections are always great, but I feel like this one stood out even from the other Buzz Books I've read - I didn't have many books for next year that I was excited about yet, but now I definitely do! The option to request/read straight from the excerpt is always appreciated, too.
Such fantastic excerpts!! Can't wait for the books to be released.
Really great excerpts, I'm excited for the new releases!
I love Buzz Books. I think it is a great way for book lovers to find new books to read, discover new authors.
The monthly version was a lot of lists. Still interesting, but honestly I ended up skipping the last couple. Too many lists for me. I would have preferred less of them, but more details and summaries to the books.
I love the excerpt section, as always. And there are several books that I am anticipating to read now.
I personally might prefer the seasonal buzz- then again so many good books, so probably going to check out the February BB or other monthly issues as well.
This is such a helpful resource for readers like me who can't wait to find out what books are coming out soon. Very comprehensive.
Bring on January!!! All but one of these books have climbed onto my to be read list. Excited for the new year and these new reads!
Great resource for book lovers including titles, dates and excepts for upcoming releases.
Another excellent edition of Buzz Books with excerpts from some fabulous upcoming books. I never miss an edition of this catalogue, and you shouldn't either!
To all netgalley reviewers this monthly buzz book was an eye opener. The trouble is if you love books there is a real danger you’ll like and want all the books previewed and introduced here.
I already had one book chosen and the passage I read only whetted my appitite further and I can not wait.
Yet again a great informative Buzz Books read! I love getting these each month but the YA ones are my particular favourite. I wish that I could subscribe to these each month and they automatically get sent to me instead of me having to request - makes me sound lazy though!!!
I always find something I want to read in full from the pages of this sampler. I always look forward to downloading the next copy..
I look forward to the monthly sampling of new literary works. It definitely help select books for review.
This was incredibly informative and detailed, listing the new releases of January 2018 by genre and date. I saw a lot of books I had my eye on, some of them being sequels to book series that are coming out soon. The excerpts are a great perk that gives the reader a sneak peak of some new releases. I was personally mostly intrigued by The Immortalists and The Black Painting.
I always enjoy these samplers. After reading through this one, I'm particularly excited about the new Marieke Nijkamp - BEFORE I LET GO. The opening pages were gripping and the voice was strong. And I was a fan of Nijkamp's previous work.
I was also interested in Sara Holland's EVERLESS. I've seen this book around and the excerpt made me intrigued to read more. The premise sounds fascinating.
Finally, I was glad to see an excerpt of THE IMMORTALIST - I will be interested in picking this one up when it comes out on the shelves!
just a great service and review of some exciting books to look forward to
Great way to see some new authors and pick out something that grabs your attention
I can hardly wait to read the rest of The Immortalists! I'm looking forward to purchasing both the ebook and the audiobook. Thanks so much for the excerpt, and I love Buzz Books.
The catalog is great. I loved the excerpts of the books
Love the Book Buzz previews somget a head start on what’s coming up. Particularly looking forward to Neil Olson’s The Black Painting.
I love that these are now monthly instead of quarterly. Even though I am a book blogger its hard to keep track of what is coming out and when so this is a perfect resource tool to have plus you get snippets of the upcoming books which i always love to read,. Many hidden jewels within the book each month
This is a great collection of excerpts of upcoming books for the month of January 2018.
It contains an introduction followed by a section with a list of "Literary Favorites and Emerging Talents", debut fiction, commercial fiction, and nonfiction titles. Then it has a section of "Week by Week" title releases and at the end some book excerpts that were originally published in Buzz Books 2017: Fall/Winter and Buzz Books 2017: Young Adult Fall/Winter. I particularly enjoyed the excerpt for THE IMMORTALISTS by Chloe Benjamin.
Overall, a great list of buzzing titles for the month of January 2018.
As ever an interesting look into what's coming. I personally am most excited about Everless.
This was quite informative for what's going to be coming out in January 2018. It's always nice to know what's coming out to be able to share with patrons (and know what's getting a lot of buzz!).
January 2018 Buzz Books Monthly. I enjoyed the upcoming previews for January books. A excellent way of trying a new author and their books to see if you want to add them to your to be read list or even author's you have enjoyed in the past to see what they have coming in the next month. I sure added some future books to my list.
I am a big fan of the monthly Buzz Books. It's such a great way to preview upcoming title and sort through the maze! January is looking promising with excerpts of titles that I have already been noticing like The Immortalists and The Woman in the Window.
Thank you, as always, to NetGalley, for the opportunity to preview these titles.
I love these Buzz Book Monthly issues! They keep me updated on all the books that will release soon, and the exclusive excerpts featured in them have helped me find books I'll like that I may never have given a thought about otherwise. I'm excited for Everything Here is Beautiful!
Brilliant as always, I love getting the monthly Buzz books, there is so much work that goes into these monthly books. It helps you chose your next read and makes your TBR list impossible to keep low. I love reading the week by week listing so I know when my next book is coming. The excerpt gives the reader a glimpse that’s more detailed than the blurb, I even enjoy reading the end parts about each author of the excerpts.
Thanks again for a brilliant monthly update
So much to look forward to in January 2018, I'd better hurry through my TBR pile as soon as I can to enjoy them all...
If you like mysteries and thrillers this is the perfect month for you! Love the publishing calendar, as always, and I can't wait for the Spring/Summer edition!
What a great tool to keep informed about new releases. This month, there are excerpts of five novels as well as two YA titles. Also included are extensive lists of January titles. I look forward to Buzz Books every month.

The Buzz Books Monthly are a great resource. They not only give you a listing of book publications for the month, but also excerpts from some of the new releases. I am especially excited to read “The Woman in the Window” by A.J. Finn after reading the excerpt in this edition.
**I enjoy reading these 'Buzz Books' titles very much. It helps me get a feel for the next month's new releases, purchase or request any books I am interested in but do not already have, and create my TBR list for that month. Very useful tool for readers and reviewers.
The Buzz Books are always so much fun to dig into each month. They help me plan my reading list and find new authors.
Always find this compilation useful of upcoming releases and anticipated debut novelists.
Buzz January is fantastic because it includes a variety of books that are very interesting, especially the excerpt of The Immortalist by Chloe Benjamin that is thrilling so many readers all over the world with the quest: "What would you do if you were to know the date of your death?
Another great mix of samples from across different genres! I know what I'm looking out for in the coming months!

Thanks so much for this monthly guide on the hottest books
Really Interesting books for the new year. SO excited to start 2018 right!
A great introduction to some new titles coming soon. The Immortalists stood out for me as a must-read. Looking forward to getting my hands on it asap!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me a digital arc of these books. There are some fantastic stories coming out this year. I am so excited to read "Thunderhead" by Neal Shusterman. Many of my students loved the first book in this series and I know they will be happy with this second story. I will definitely be purchasing it.
I enjoyed this synopsis of upcoming book releases! A must read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading is The Woman in the Window. My review of it which can be found on Goodreads:
Our mind has a way of playing tricks on us; after all- it's been said that one persons perception is often another's reality.
Dr. Anna Fox, lives alone plagued by agoraphobia, she spends her days drowning her sorrows with medication, in endless glasses of merlot, classic black and white movies and rounds of online chess.
Separated from her husband Ed and daughter Olivia; Anna carries on with her life and lives it through voyeurism. Anna watches through the lens of her camera into the streets, homes, windows and peers into the lives of her neighbors. However, when a new family the Russell's move into the neighborhood, Anna sees something that she can never unsee - a murder. Or was it?
This book hooks you and pulls you under; leaving you gasping for breath! 5 stars; yet another "fav" to add to my list!! Trust me, it's a must read - you won't be disappointed!!❤️
I am looking forward to reading The Girfriend. A sampler of the book is in this issue of Buzz Books Monthlies!
As per usual these Buzz Books are SO helpful! I am always able to find so many books that I end up loving thanks to these publications. I also love that I'm able to get a better idea of books that may not be the right fit for me thereby saving some serious time!
