To Tame a Wolf is the first book I have read from JoAnn Black. It is well-written and engaging. Alexandra has become ward to her cruel and vicious cousin following her parent’s death. He sends her to live with nuns at the abbey until he decides to marry her to his crony so they can divide her estate. During the night before a wedding can take place, a childhood friend helps Alexandra escape taking with her a McGregor on the chance that his laird will help her in some way to gain back the estate left to her by her parents.

The McGregor chained to the floor in her hall being kicked and beaten by her cousin and his crony, is The McGregor and Laird of McGregor clan. Ian never lets on that he is the man she seeks. Along the way, she cares for him with her knowledge of medicine. They seem to be forming a friendship of sorts. Once they reached his keep, Ian treats her very differently, claiming she is now his prisoner.

Ian makes sure his clan knows not to hurt or the puppy she rescued on the journey. But, why the prisoner status? Because he likes teasing her? It did not seem to be her idea of teasing at the time. You begin to see their relationship return to the ease of their journey, but not easily. Alexandra does seem to win over clan members and little Jamie, Ian’s nephew. You begin to think she is not going to win over his brother, James.

There is a bit of drama with another female living with the clan that wreaks havoc on Alexandra and Ian’s building relationship. Alexandra is a very trusting and caring person, helping anyone is is hurt or injured. Her kindness is what helps her win over The McGregor clan. Yet, through the book Ian’s pride of place causes a few problems, too.

This is a short but enjoyable tale and seems to be the beginning of a series. There is a bit of a teaser between James and Alexandra’s new friend, Kat. I am looking forward to reading more by Ms. Black and more from this series.

My first by JoAnn , she’s a great writer and id love to read more of hers , this was a really good story .
Ian is taken hostage by his enemies ,one being the Sinclairs and the other being Niles the brother of a very pretty young lady who decides that she is going to help free him .
Alexandra has been in a convent for the past 7 years or so , after being beaten almost to death by her cousin, he’s after her inheritance, and now want her back to marry her to the Sinclair, another odious character.
When her , Ian and Happy, Alexandra’s wolf puppy, do escape , they travel to the McGregor stronghold, where she discovers Ian is the Laird , not everyone is happy to see an English woman in their midst though ,and some act on their feelings.

I absolutely loved this story. It started off great and continued. Alexandra prays for strength and begs God not to send her back, but it doesn't happen. Her evil cousin wants her. Ian is found chained to the floor of her keep. She decides to rescue him and have him take her to his Laird, to escape a disgusting marriage. Oh the fun begins!!! I don't want to spoil it, just read it, it's wonderful.

I received a copy of To Tame a Wolf by JoAnn Black from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book by JoAnn Black that I have read, but I was intrigued by the summary and glad that I received a copy to preview as I am happy to report that the book did not disappoint.

Yes, the plot was a little predictable and the lead characters made me want to jump into the pages to shake both of them at times, but it was a fun read - and a quick read. A good romance novel to unwind with!

I was not sure what to expect when I started this book. I went in blind and enjoyed the ride.
I like that Alexandra stuck to her beliefs of waiting until marriage even when put in a tempting situation that most female characters in the type of book give in to.
I like that she kept her head about situations and did what she thought was right.
The bickering between the couple and the fact that Ian did it on purpose because he liked to get her riled up is just like a man to do.
The only thing that I didn't like about this book was the ending. It just had such a build up and them it fizzled, it almost felt rushed like there was a page limit and the author was running out of room without tying up a loose end.
Overall however it was a good book.

Thanks to The Wild Rose Press, Inc. for a copy of this e-book via NetGalley. It is my pleasure to provide an honest review and the views expressed are my own.

The plight of women during this time period was pretty dire. Alexandra, a blonde British girl, had lived an idyllic life until the death of her loving parents. When her cousin Sir Niles Conrad inherited her home estate Ravenwood, her life changed quickly and for the worst. A man of low standards, cousin Niles nearly beat Alexandra to death when she refused his advances. It was only his drunken state that saved her virtue. As punishment, she was sent to an abbey and remained there until she was needed as a bargaining chip for Niles.

Upon her arrival at Ravenwood, Alexandra, now a young woman, quickly learned that Niles had betrothed her to an older disgusting man Hugh Sullivan. Upon her marriage, control of her inheritance and lands would go to Sullivan and he and Niles would share in the wealth. As Alexandra listened to the fate of her disgusting future she noticed a man beaten and chained to the floor and heard him referred to as a McGregor. She saw in him an escape.

Through the help of a loyal servant, Alexandra escaped with the McGregor and made their way to the safety of his lands and people. Many secrets would be revealed, and the relationship between our two lead characters was established. There would be trials, threats from without and within. There would be treachery, scandal and love won and lost. These were powerful men and the women who loved them.

There was no epilogue and I am hoping there is another book that will forward the threads left dangling. Like what happened to… nope… that would be a spoiler. So… my hopes are for a HEA for the secondary characters James and his son. I loved the wolf pup and I hope it follows in future books. There was an introduction to a new female character that I really liked and I would like to see her have a HEA in the future. This was a delightful story of love and devotion to a clan and its people.

Rating: PG-17: explicit sex, sensual descriptions, suggestive language and depiction of marital relations.

Great historical read! Alexandra has become the ward of her cruel cousin who plans to marry her off to an old friend and divide her estate. Her only hope is to make a deal with the man she sees being beaten and chained to the floor. Ian takes Alexandra prisoner when they reach his home will she need to run again? This is a fast-pace read that drew me in from beginning to end. The characters are great and the story fun and entertaining. I am looking forward to more in the series.

I voluntarily read a copy thru Netgalley. The story of Alexandra and Ian is full of danger, action and suspense. It is so well written that it keeps your interest and you continue to read to see what happens next. To me, this is the best type of book. The love between the two of them develops rather quickly and unexpected on Ian’s part. I would highly recommend this book.

Alexandra of Ravenwood had been sent to a nunnery where she lived for seven years. Her cousin was an evil man, brutal and had betrothed her to an equally, cruel and nasty man. Before she left, there was a man chained to the floor of the Great Hall. They had beaten him thoughly and continued do so. His name is Ian Mcgregor. She helped him escape and they both fled to McGregor land.
This was a wonderful story, the descriptions were vivid, the dialogue fit the action and emotions shown by the characters. The characters were gentle but ferocious. It is the way I imagined it would be in my mind.. The men were strong and honorable. The cub was a great thought, he sounds so cute. This is a book that will keep your attention and it is very hard to put down. I highly recommend it.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

"To tame a Wolf" by JoAnn Black is a good read. The plot is good, the characters are likeable and the villains are dastardly, but the book seems to waffle on the time period and includes modern language. I was honestly not certain if the book was set in Medieval Scotland or in the 1700 or 1800s. Characters commonly used the word "Okay" to indicate agreement - but the word was first used in print in the 1800s. Fetching Alexandra from the abbey and the conflict between the Scots and the English seem to fit in an earlier time period.
Even with the slight problems in the book, I found I really liked the story - didn't want to stop reading. Alexandra is summoned home by her hateful cousin and told she is to marry a disgusting man. Ian has been captured by said cousin and chained to the floor where they beat him, and make reference to him being a hated Scott. But Alexandra is bright and has a plan, she will rescue Ian and ask him to find her a safe place to live away from her cousin and betrothed.
The escape is successful but when they reach Ian's home he turns the tables on her making Alexandra his prisoner. Deciding to ransom her off, knowing that he wants her for himself. There is instant chemistry between Alexandra and Ian. Ian doesn't want to fall in love with a woman and Alexandra doesn't want to marry at all.
There are some sexy love scenes between the two that move the story and their relationship along nicely. Story ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, villains haven't been fully punished for their roles yet. I hope Ms. Black decides to write Ian's brother's story next. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Alexandra wants nothing to do with her guardian and hopes to spend the rest of her life at the Abbey. Unfortunately he calls for her and tells her that he plans to marry her off to a man who’s just as vile as her guardian. She hatches a plan to get out of dodge. She sets the man free who’s chained up in the main hall and asks him to take her to the McGregor clan, hoping that their laird will allow her sanctuary. She has no idea that the man she frees is the laird and he become quite smitten with Alexandra.

This was a great little historical. It was a quick read and just kind of hit in all of the right places for me. Alexandra setting Ian free, their flight to freedom and everything that entailed and of course their attraction to each other. The author did a fine job of giving us simmering tension between Ian and Alexandra, I loved it.

If you want a simple yet entertaining historical romance to read then this is the book for you.

I received an ARC of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Alexandra was sent to a convent after her parents death and a cousin taking over. Now the cousin has decided to marry her off to a man and the only advantage would be to the cousin. Alexandra was happy at the convent so when she is informed men have been sent to retrieve her, she is devastated.

Ian has been captured by the said cousin and endured a brutal beating. Alexandra releases him and asks for his help to get away from her cousin and the arranged marriage. Of course, escaping and making it back to Ian's home was no easy task.

Of course there is an attraction between these two and both are fighting it. Ian really screws up when he announces to his clan that she is his prisoner, not the woman who risked all to release him and get him back home.

I really loved this story! The characters are well developed and the writing has such a nice flow to it. It pretty much got my attention from page one and of course I didn't want to stop reading! Through the author's words I could picture the characters, especially the slimy degenerate of a cousin and the betrothed!

I did want to kick Ian when he told his clan she was his prisoner! What the heck was he thinking after she got him away...he certainly would have eventually died. Just shows how hardheaded men can be, LOL.

This really is a good story and if you like your Highlanders it will be worth your time.

I received an arc from Netgalley. I enjoyed this book and the storyline between Ian and Alexandra. Alexandra rescues Ian and starts to have feelings for Ian when she finds out he is actually the Laird of his clan. The author does a beautiful job of capturing Alexandra as a kind, loving, innocent woman and it is clear why Ian falls for her.
Ian is the strong silent type and labeled as “wolf” which Alexandra tames. I like her connection with her nephew and the storyline of the real wolf too.
I like the angle with the traitor amongst the group but the book ends with no mention of what happens to the traitor. That was kind of disappointing.
I hope the next story is between Kat and James.

Alexandra Ashford hoped to remain at the nunnery and maybe one day take her vows. Unfortunately, her bully of a cousin has other ideas of what to do with her. Alexandra is shocked and angered when she discovers her cousin intends to marry her off to a pig of a man twice her age. Alexandra devises a plan and with the help of one of her cousin's prisoners, makes good her escape.

Ian McGregor cannot believe his good fortune when Alexandra helps him get free.. Together they must make it back to his lands before they are recaptured. Ian instantly takes a liking to Alexandra, but keeps her in the dark about who he really is... the Laird of clan McGregor. When Alexandra's betrothed and cousin demand her return, Ian will not stand for it. Instead, he will make Alexandra his own.

Author JoAnn Black is new-to-me and I love her style!! Her debut novel, TO TAME A WOLF is absolutely gripping! Here is a woman with writing skills... Ms. Black's plot is fast-paced and full of twists and turns. Her main characters, Alexandra and Ian are strong and resilient. Even with their backs against the wall, they will fight to the death for one another. I am looking forward to seeing what else Ms. Black has to offer. Highland romance lovers; TO TAME A WOLF is a must read!

a well-rounded romance with a good solid plot kept me reading past midnight.

This was an odd book. It started off fairly well, with an interesting story, a dynamic couple and a compelling start of a romance. Then, the narrative became different and dialogue seemed inappropriate for the time period, whatever it is. It never says, but seems to be 16th-18th century England and Scotland. The h is an English woman, who has lived in an abbey for several years, after escaping from her family home, now in the hands of an abusive and evil cousin.. He’s decided to marry her to an older man, also somewhat despicable. There happens to be a Scotsman chained in the hall when she arrives home, beaten . She plots to escape with him and does so. He turns out to be the Laird of the MacGregors clan, and keeps her captive when they reach his home. Of course they are attracted to each other, but the course of true Love is never going to be smooth. Various troubles ensue. I smell a sequel in the works. I hope the writer can improve the narrative and use language more appropriate to the time. I think there is promise for the writer. Some pieces of the story don’t fit, like why did the cousin allow her to stay at the abbey for six years, then suddenly decide to marry her off and steal her inheritance? And then why did the same man she was to marry make plans to marry someone else later in the story, though there were plans to ransom her?

This is the type of story that I love to read! There was action from start to finish, never a dull moment. Give me a braw alpha male Scottish hero, a kicka$$ heroine, a wonderful cast of secondary characters, a few evil schemers, a great plot....add to that a beloved pet (a wolf cub) and you've got me hooked!!

I loved the instant chemistry between Alexandra and Ian, how she stood up to him, their interactions, how she could fight alongside him and the intimacy between them was so very hot!! All in all, a great story and I now look forward to reading more of this author's work.
