I apologize but I won't be reviewing this netgalley copy as I cannot open it on my device. I'm sorry to have bothered you. (I do plan on buying the book as it sounds so good!)
A fabulous resource for keto recipes, there are so many to choose from. The recipes are laid out in an easy to follow format and there really is something for everyone in this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book by Dana Carpender. Her recipes are all down-to-earth, nothing too sophisticated but everyday recipes that any home cook can replicate easily. I love that every recipe is accompanied by a little anecdote. With that, I feel like Dana is talking directly to me and is passing her recipes to me in person. With all those recipes at hand, ketogenic cooking will never be boring. What is really interesting about her is that Dana is not jumping on a new fad diet, but has been writing about low-carb eating for years. She had figured out that keto works long before the keto diet became widely known. I can only recommend buying this cookbook.
The book contains a great collections of recipes easy to do with low carbs. The recipes are original and diversified: from desserts & snacks to main course. Also, the author takes the time to explain a large list of food ingredients like artificial sweeteners or natural fats.
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
This is a great book for newcomers like me to the Ketogenic way of eating. Easy to follow recipes that are not full of obscure and difficult ingredients. Delicious and simple recipes.
I was very impressed by this cookbook. Dana Carpender did a great job coming up with such a complete list of recipes in every category. There are so many that I can't wait to try! My only complaint is her use of soy sauce, which is not true Keto. But hey, with 500 recipes, it is easy to choose another recipe or substitute it!
Would have loved more pictures, but I am enjoying trying all the recipes. Most are simple and easy to do yet offer a lot of variety!
Loved this cookbook. Amazing variety, fairly easy to follow. Nutritional breakdown was very appreciated. I plan to purchase this for my own use.
Love this book! There are so many great recipes in there. I have been on the Keto diet for just over a month and this has been very helpful!
**This is a book with recipes for a particular type of diet (ketogenic diet: low-carb and high-fat). Even if Dana explains what keto is, I would strongly recommend getting familiar and researching first if you are not on this diet yet. This is about recipes, not about how to implement this type of diet into your lifestyle. Also, expect to encounter ingredients that you might be unfamiliar with.**
OMG, So many recipes and they all sound so delicious!. At first I was disappointed that it didn't include pictures. It is always nice to have some idea of how the recipes look on a plate, but I can forgive that because there was no need for eye candy to make me have food cravings.
The recipes are divided in categories, starting with snacks and then grain substitute recipes, egg recipes, salads and vinagrettes, hot side-dishes, poultry, fish and seafood, beef, pork and lamb, main dish salads, soups, sauces, condiments and seasonings, beverages and desserts. Most of them are very simple to prepare, it includes keto adaptations to many classic dishes and from her previous books. It includes recipes inspired from other parts of the world, specially Mexican food but you can also find Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine flavors.
Other good points:
It is a friendly book: Dana's commentary at the beginning of each recipe makes me think that I'm reading someone's food blog about their homemade recipes.
Good design: I liked how the ingredients and nutritional information are on the left and the recipe on the center and right, it reminds me of recipe cards and feels more organized.
Nutritional Information: each recipe includes amount of carbs, fat, %calories from fat, protein, dietary fiber and net carbs.
Great intro: as with previous books, Dana explains in detail most of the ingredients she uses; their different presentations, alternatives, brands, etc. Don't skip the first two chapters if you are a beginner, it is truly important to get to know and choose the right ingredients.

I always feel like I am going to run out of new things to try doing Keto but books like this one are constantly proving me wrong. There are a lot of staple meals for many of us ketoers- omelets, salads, burgers, sweet treats- and what I absolutely love about 500 Ketogenic Recipes is that there are countless variations on each of these staple meals allowing for variance instead of repetition for when we get tired of eating the same old thing. I know that many people on the Keto groups I am a member of on Facebook are worried that they can't have a drink every now and again and I absolutely love that there is a section on keto friendly alcoholic beverages so you can still have a drink! I even found a new strawberry tea recipe for my morning tea fix! 500 Ketogenic Recipes should be a book on every ketoers book shelf, so I recommend this book to anyone trying to follow a Keto lifestyle. These recipes will keep you busy for quite some time!
***Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review***
It's rare to have a cookbook that has so many recipes; I was shocked. There was a wide variety of meals that cater to everyone from the keto beginner with recipes feature household staples to the more experienced chef with recipes that require more difficult to find ingredients.
One of the biggest challenges when following a ketogenic way of eating is to find recipes and cookbooks that are truly ketogenic so I was a little bit skeptical when I picked this one up. So, I was happily surprised to find that there's a lot of good stuff in this book! Not only that, but there were some new, interesting, and innovative recipes that I was super excited to try.
As other reviewers have mentioned, there are no pictures in this book. Not a dealbreaker for me, but probably worth knowing going in. On the other hand, you get 500 recipes, some of them build off others, and some called for ingredients that aren't as clean as I would have liked, but there was still plenty in here for me to be excited about! On top of that, I was charmed by how they were written. It's a friendly recipe book, and the author calls out little details or notes about recipes, making me feel like I was reading blog posts or something just a little less formal than the usual fare, and right up my alley!
In all, if you're eating ketogenic and looking for something new and exciting? I think this is an excellent offering!
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own. I was excited to find this collection of low carb, high protein recipes to change up some of my tried and true standbys. 500 Ketogenic Recipes is a great resource for trying this diet (with your doctors approval) without requiring you to purchase obscure or expensive food choices. While no diet is the answer to all of our weight struggles this one will have you on your way to a new start!
Very good book for a beginner of this type of cooking, etc. Very good recipes for the Keto Diet. I tried a few recipes and found them to be easy to follow, and very tasty. All types of food is covered here so there is something for everyone. Great book. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
Packed full of great tasting recipes for anyone on a keto diet, this cookbook shows that you don't have to feel like you're on a diet to be on one!
Beautiful pictures make every recipe look amazing and easy to understand instructions make even the most challenged into master chefs in their own kitchen.
I highly recommend this book not only to those eating keto but anybody looking for delicious recipes without the carbs.
The recipes in this book were great. I found a lot of new things to try to help me in my weight loss journey. The book was well written and arranged well.
Easy to follow methods, and many beautiful ways to have tasty healthy meals. It's so nice to eat well.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I have been on the keto diet for over a year now with pretty good success and am always looking for new recipe books to keep things interesting. This was a nice addition with lots of recipes that are fairly simple. My only gripe is, no pictures! I hate when cookbooks don't have pictures but I still might buy it anyway because it is a really good resource.
Dana Carpender is a name I trust. I’ve had her low-carb cookbooks for years, and I love them. I use them almost as much as my mother’s beloved Betty Crocker cookbook.
My doctor has recently been encouraging me to make the not-far jump from low-carb to keto. But it seems so overwhelming! And my husband and children need more variety than I do. I was so excited to see her come out with a keto cookbook that was so detailed and sensible. With chapters devoted specifically to snacks and munchies, baked goods, eggs, side salads, hot sides, poultry, fish/seafood, beef, port/lamp, main dish salads, soups, condiments, beverages, and desserts, this book is truly a compendium of keto wisdom! I can’t wait to work my way through the whole book, much like I’ve done with her low-carb books.
I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a sensible, do-able keto recipe book with simple ingredients and clear directions.
I gratefully received this book as an eARC from the author, publisher, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. But I loved it so much, I bought a copy for myself.
This is a diet cookery book for those following the keto /low carb type of eating plan that assists the hurning of body fat.
There are 16 main chapters in this book starting with an introduction to keto and ingredients to know. It explains what the keto diet is, and how to have the right levels of healthy fats, protein and carbs in your diet. There is some research from medical papers too. The chapter on ingredients explains healthy fats, so fats such as butter and lard (yes lard!) are on the list.
Then it moves onto the recipes section and these include Snacks, finger food & party munchies, Baked good & other grain substitutes, Eggs, Hot side dishes, Poultry, Fish & seafood, Beef, Pork & Lamb, Main dish salads, Soups, Sauces, condiments & seasonings, Beverages and Desserts.
There are 500 recipes to pick from however it does not suggest a list of meals you could have in a day or over a week which may have bern handy to have as a starting point.
The book title suggests it helps you remain in ketonics, but I wasn't clear from reading it how that's achieved.
I was surprised there was not a chapter on breakfast.
The recipes use cups & metric measurements and the instructions are clear, though I'm not sure all of ingredients are easy to come by in the UK.
There is no photography in this book, so you do not know what anything looks like once its made.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
Firstly, full disclosure: I've wondered about going keto for my diet for a long time, but as I cook food together with my partner who is vegetarian (well, pescetarian), the food choices feel like they'd be so so restricted that I don't think we'd manage it. If I was cooking just for myself, as a meat-eater, then no problem, but together... probably not. However, I do try to eat fairly low-carb most of the time, so wanted to use this as inspiration for super-low-carb recipes and to learn a bit more about the keto diet. This ticked both boxes beautifully!
I love the ideas for lowering carbs in meals, especially the items they use to replace them in recipes - it is very inspirational, and much of the recipes you can take and tweak slightly. There are recipe ideas for snacks/ finger food, baked goods, side dishes, dishes with a variety of meats and fish in, soups, desserts... the list goes on! So much choice and so many fab ideas, I love this cookbook!
one thing I will say, which links to my first paragraph, is that - understandably with a keto diet - a lot of the recipes involve meat (particularly pork rinds which must be a great low-carb replacement for breadcrumbs), so if you don't eat meat then you'll find your choices in this book very limited. However, I am saving most of these for when I'm cooking for myself, and planning to make some of the fish dishes (if you eat fish then you'll probably be really impressed at the choice of dishes, as there are plenty of fish dishes and they all look SO tasty!). Quite a lot of recipes include shirataki noodles or miracle rice, which are low carb, low calorie replacements for noodles/ pasta/ rice, so you'd have to check you actually like them - I am going to try them in some meals myself as it could be a revelation! The only thing I will say is there aren't really any photos, so if you're someone who needs to see how the finished dish will look, you might be a bit disappointed.
I'm really looking forward to trying out a lot of the recipes, particularly Trout with Saffron (will probably replace trout with a different fish I've got in the freezer though), sweet and smoky salmon, angel hair with shrimp, fish in coconut child sauce, sweet and salty almond crust, crisp chocolate crust.... ahh the options are endless!
I'd 100% recommend this for anyone thinking of doing a keto diet, or loosing for ultra low-carb recipes. Very thorough and with plenty of inspiration, you'll have lots of great ideas for keto-friendly dishes.
This looks like a great resource to try going keto. I've heard a lot about the ketogenic diet for weight loss and health, and there are enough recipes here to never become bored. I would like more photos, since I have trouble imagining recipes where I only have descriptions, but that's ok, really -- it's not as though I can make my food creations look like recipe photos, anyway!
A great collection of low carb recipes. Easy to make and perfect for those stepping into the diet. Good for any library collection looking to cater to health/food trends, specifically in public libraries.
Easy to follow, well laid out recipes fill this book! There are so many pictures which is always a requirement for a good cookbook. Ingredients are easy to find in local supermarkets and prep instructions are clear even for a less experienced cook. There is a wide range of types of recipes. There’s something for everyone.
I received a copy of this book from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
My interest in this book was sparked by my desire to explore more low carb recipes and expand my current staples, and this book doesn't disappoint. Yes, many of the recipes require a little more planning in terms of getting the ingredients as they aren't always your everyday items, but the great variety will keep you interested for a while.
Great Keto book for beginners although many of the recipes call for special ingredients I do not normally stock in my pantry.
This book contains many recipes that are easy to make. My family loves the new dishes I've been making.
