Description

City of Bones Series, Book 1

“Reading a Lina Gardiner book is like riding an out-of-this-world roller coaster with your favorite people in the world.” —Joyce Lamb, USA Today bestselling author

DEATH DEFINES HER . . .

When Jess Vandermire, Captain of New York City’s Vampire Hunting team, learns that her brother, Regent, has been sent to Paris for three months by the Vatican, she’s devastated.  Regent’s been too involved with vampires as a priest to go to Paris without fearing vampire retribution. He’ll need backup. Lucky for him, Jess and her partner, John Brittain, have some vacation time coming.

Once Jess and Britt arrive, they know something’s not right in the city. Women are being murdered, and the vampire population is on the edge of revolt. But worst of all, the City of Lights is home to a lot of shadows, ones that move—and kill—of their own accord. But Jess’s existence is rocked to the core when Regent comes across a life-changing, long lost family secret.

It’s starting to look like there’ll be no rest for the wicked.

City of Bones—some secrets don’t stay buried . . .

Lina Gardiner, award-winning author of the Jess Vandermire Vampire Hunter Series, has writing in her blood. I enjoyed the story, it was your standard paranormal romance, but even if you don't read the genre regularly I would recommend this book to you because it's fantastically written and the author is super talented.

This book is the first in a new series, but it is a continuation of the author’s other series Jess Vandermire, Vampire Hunter. While I believe you can read this series without having read the previous series, I think it would be better to have read the other one. I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed this author’s writing until I read this book. She makes her characters feel real, and she deftly weaves a great plot. However, I do have to admit that this book did have a little too much information in a couple of places, and sometimes I really wanted to roll my eyes where Jess felt too sorry for herself. But those two things aside, I think the author is trying to set up new readers for a great new series, and I for one can’t wait to see what comes next. I think we should trust the author, because I really liked the previous series, and I see some great things in this book that I saw in the other one. Highly recommend! Thanks to NetGalley and Bell Bridge Books/ImaJinn Books for the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

I've missed the depth of Lisa Gardner's books, and had stopped reading her for awhile, but this was a fantastic book to come back to her! LOVED it!

Jess Vandermire is the captain of the New York City’s Vampire Hunting Team. She finds out that her brother a priest, Regent has gone to Paris by request of the Vatican. Jess is upset as she fears for Regent’s life due to vampire retribution. Why? Jess and her partner John Brittain decide to go to Paris on “vacation” so they can be backup for him. Jess and John discover that shadows are killing people. How? Why?

An exquisitely written story about more than vampires. It is a paranormal novel. I liked the mystery that is problematic to solve. As I read this novel, I found myself wanting answers to what little the characters knew. I can’t wait to read the next book in this new series!

This is definitely a new favorite in my guilty pleasure genre of paranormal romance. I love a strong, yet vulnerable female protagonist. Even more, I love the supernatural elements and the mystery woven into the paranormal plot. I'm so happy this is the first in a series!
