Description
“A person who has no standard to live by other than the culture of the
moment
is a person whose principles might as well come from the latest public
opinion polls.”
- Mike Huckabee
In this new and updated book, former Governor Mike Huckabee challenges contemporary culture’s ideals of “living in the moment,” and instead shares how to live a life that will continue to resonate long after we’re gone.
In a time where it seems anything goes, and truth is more fluid than ever, Rare, Medium or Done Well is for anyone striving to make a difference in today’s culture. Whether in politics, family, education, or business, the key is to leave a legacy for future generations. If the seeds of your faith and values are not planted now, the future will suffer.
Governor Huckabee guides readers through multiple facets of life and how to be an example that others will follow and carry forward to the future.
Mike Huckabee served as the governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007 and as lieutenant governor from 1993-1996. Before entering politics, he was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister and worked for twelve years as a full time pastor. He recently started a political action committee, HuckPAC, to extend his grassroots movement. He and his wife, Janet, have three grown children and live in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

As a pastor turned politician, Mike Huckabee writes about life and legacy with a unique perspective. In his current role as a national TV host and news contributor, Huckabee is engaging, encouraging, and well respected. This book features the characteristic humor, insightful anecdotes, and down to Earth approach that Huckabee is known for. The main point of this book can be boiled down to this: Service to others and thinking about future generations is more important than who we are or what we have.
This book was originally published as "Living Beyond Your Lifetime", which I have always thought was Mike's best book. The message of being intentional about the legacy you leave is something I took from that original book, and I have tried to share this with others throughout my lifetime. The message in this book is just as relevant today as it was almost 20 years ago when it was first published. The content, however, is new and updated to reflect the current political and social climate.
This book is not the gospel according to Mike Huckabee. In this book, Huckabee discusses the topics of politics, religion, careers, marriage, family, pornography, love vs. lust, faith, leadership, positive thinking, stewardship, pain and suffering, leaving a lasting legacy, and the certainty of death. Huckabee examines all of these topics through a Biblical lens. The end of each chapter provides discussion questions that are designed to help you reflect on your life in relation to the content provided. This would be a great book for small group studies.
I would highly recommend this book to all Christians. I hope you will read it, be encouraged by it, and be intentional about the life you live. I received this as a free ARC from Worthy Publishing Group on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book that will make you think long and hard about the legacy you will leave behind. Each chapter has questions at the end. This is a book everybody needs to read. Thank you Worthy Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
Mike Huckabee is one of a kind. His writing style is engaging and he is not afraid to give his opinion of matters.
One of the good guys! A respected politician, news commentator, and former pastor, Huckabee chronicles his life with humor and grace as he raises a family and creates a legacy sure to benefit future generations. Chocked full of life lessons and biblical wisdom, this book is sure to give the reader food for thought and inspiration for creating their own legacy and a fulfilling life in the service to others. Highly recommended!
An excellent book filled with wisdom, great observations, and advice. As Mike Huckabee shares experiences from his own life, we’re encouraged to live a life of faith and good character. You’ll be inspired and challenged to serve others in an unselfish way. The questions at the end of each chapter would work well for a book club or book study.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
