Description
Gemma Troy spent her childhood hunting for gold with her father, camping in fern gullies, and collecting keepsakes from the outdoors. Pebbles, nests, shells, seed pods, plants, bones, feathers – if it’s beautiful, portable, and can be spared by the earth, Gemma takes it home as a reminder of nature’s beauty. In Heart Lines, Gemma reflects on themes of love and pain, femininity and joy, and matches each delicate poem with one of her foraged treasures.

Heart Lines is a really quick and beautiful read. The simplicity of the photos paired with the quick poems makes for a really great reading experience. Some of Gemma Troy’s verses were really gorgeous and profound, interspersed with some that were more light-hearted and cliché, but this certainly did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the collection.
A delightfully readable collection. As someone who is not very much into poetry, this was easy to engage with and understand and the imagery and design of the book is lovely. A lot of the pages seem to be thoughts and reflections rather than complete poetry but it makes it no less enjoyable.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
