I’m an expert in animal drawing now that I’ve read the fun and beautifully illustrated TEN-STEP DRAWING: ANIMALS. Includes easy-to-follow instructions for sketching 75 different animals through 10 simple steps per creature. It really is that easy and all you need is a pencil or pen and paper! I found it meditative to go from one animal to the next ... cheetah to hippo to panda ... and wow were the results amazing! 5/5

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine.

A useful and fun guide to drawing all kinds of animals that beginning artists will enjoy. It reminded me of an updated version of the classic drawing book "Drawing Made Easy" by E.G. Lutz.

Ten-Step Drawing: Animals by Heather Kilgour makes drawing the animals you know and love easy! I’m a big fan of animals, I mean I got engaged at the National Zoo, but I wouldn’t call myself artistic.

I love how this book has a vast variety in animals from pets all the way to aquatic animals. I love the color and detail on every page. Kilgour makes each step easy to follow. She makes it feel like anyone can draw and create. This is the perfect gift for any animal lover or someone who wants to learn more about drawing and creating.

Ten-Step Drawing: Animals
By Heather Gilmour

I have a few books on how to draw animals of various kinds but loved this one that has 75 animals divided up into four sections: Wild Animals, Aquatic Animals, Woodland Animals and Farm Animals & Pets. Each animal is neatly presented with easily followed diagrams and also has a tiny bit at the top about the animal. I can see this in my library OR as a gift to give to my granddaughters. I can also see doing some of the drawings and then giving them to children to use as coloring pages…well…children OR adults ;)

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is a great little book. I’ve used it lots to draw on my iPhone, and iPad and too add a little something personal to cards and letters.

I like this book but I must say I felt they cheated to fall within the ten steps. For example, the elephant goes from a head and feet in steps 1 and 2 but in step three it magically has a tail with no mention of it in the step-by-step directions.

For most animals, by step 5 you have an basic identifiable animal. The additional steps usually take it from basic clip art level animals to something really cute. I feel like those first 5 steps are where you're asking "is it really this easy" and the final 5 steps are where you realize "Um, nope I'm going to have to practice this a bit".

Complete list of animals in this book:

Wild Animals: Cheetah, Bald Eagle, Lemur, Hippopotamus, Giraffe, Elephant, Lion, Chameleon, Armadillo, Crocodile, Rhinoceros, Meerkat, Gorilla, Giant Panda, Antelope, Kangaroo, Zebra, Tiger, Chimpanzee, Koala, Platypus, Dung Beetle, Anteater, Sloth

Aquatic Animals: Blue Whale, Common Seal, Goldfish, Great White Shark, Lobster, Turtle, Crab, Orca, Seahorse, Penguin, Octopus, Polar Bear, Blue Tang, Jellyfish, Dolphin, Walrus, Hammerhead Shark.

Woodland Animals: Fox, Snail, Bumblebee, Deer, Frog, Wolf, Raccoon, Red Squirrel, Moose, Ladybug, Beaver, Grizzly Bear, Owl, Skunk, Bat, Butterfly, River Otter.

Farm Animals and Pets: Cow, Donkey, Rabbit, Sheep, Dog, Budgerigar, Guinea Pig, Camel, Goat, Snake, Horse, Mouse, Duck, Llama, Cat, Chicken.

Ten-Step Drawing: Animals
Learn to Draw 75 Animals in Ten Easy Steps!
by Heather Kilgour
This is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I reviewed the Flowers book and fell in love with it so I had to review this one. It too is wonderful. It has 75 animals in categories of wild animals, aquatic animals, woodland animals, and farm animals and pets together. The step by step instructions are easy to follow with illustrations and tips with the last picture in color. This is not just a kid's book, it is a book for adults too! I wish someone had shown me how to draw like this when I was young! Great book! Good book to build self esteem and foster creativity! Looks like another book I will be buying...

Quarto Publishing Group, Walter Foster Publishing, and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of 10 Step Drawing: Animals: Draw 75 Animals in 10 Easy Steps. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

10 Step Drawing: Animals is ideal for readers of all skill levels who are interested in learning to draw. There are different sections to the book, with instructions for animals in the following categories: Wild, Aquatic, Woodland, and Farm Animals and Pets.

My first attempt surprisingly revealed a recognizable animal, so I am confident that, with practice, I can learn to draw with this book. The instructions are easy to follow, as the author did a good job of explaining with step-by-step line drawings. I drew several pictures while reading 10 Step Drawing: Animals and was amazed as how easy it was. Although readers cannot expect to master the art of drawing with the first attempt, 10 Step Drawing: Animals will be a good reference to return to time and time again. I had a lot of fun with this book and I recommend it to readers of all skill levels and ages.

This was a great educational book, I am by no means an artist but I do enjoy decorating the spreads in my bullet journal. The tutorials were bright and easy to follow, yet definitely challenging enough to hold my attention.
It was a brilliant guide.

Draw a fox, a cat, a wolf, or a hippo in just ten steps. The ten steps show you how adding simple shapes can create a wild animal, or a farm animal or a pet.

My 8 year old is highly interested in trying this out.

Educational, fun, easy to follow how to draw animals book! I can't draw at all! However, with the aid of this book I was able to draw fairly decent replicas of what was taught! My Granddaughter loves to draw and had a blast with this book!

Remember those matchbooks that all had a picture on them and said "You can learn to draw" on them? They all made you think you could draw and become a great artist if you just enrolled in their schools. This book WILL teach you how to break down a subject and draw it without having to subscribe or pay a lot of money. For the person who has always wanted to draw casually or the person who wants to expand their skills, this would fill their needs. The simple instructions and illustrations will have you amazing you friends, relatives...maybe even yourself..in a very short time.

This is a drawing book that can be enjoyed by children and adults in equal measure. It shows how to draw a wide variety of animals by breaking them down into steps; starting with simple basic forms and then adding to/refining them to add appropriate detail.

I found it very well done!

This was a decent book to look through and help get ideas on what I need to do to get started with drawing. One thing that is unique about this book is that you have a variety of animals to choose from instead of it just being domesticated animals or just wild animals. There's a good mixture of categories if you will. The drawing instructions themselves aren't that unique to other books, but then again there are only so many ways to teach how to draw. Just because it's not unique doesn't mean it's not good. The pictures are very clear as is the end result.

This is a brilliant book that teaches you how to realistically draw a variety of animals. The step by step instructions are very clear and have enough steps for the beginner to follow. The results are very impressive and the method shown is easily transferrable. The author also adds colour at the end if you want to include it in your drawing. The book is suitable for adults and children alike. Excellent.

I am not an artist, and I love to draw. Many of my drawings are indecipherable. With this book, I was able to see the animals come through my attempts to draw. This author does a good job of breaking down the steps into easy to follow instructions. There are 75 different animals to try.

Ten Step Drawing: Animals by Heather Kilgour provides instructions for creating no less than 75 different animals. Each critter is done through, as the title suggests, ten simple steps. Each picture has little sidenotes with it, offering detail suggestions, or tips and tricks. From meerkats and great whites, to moose and goats, there's sure to be beasties to appeal to everyone. There are four different broad categories- Wild, Aquatic, Woodland, and Farm/Pet. I loved that two of the animals were dung beetles, and budgies. The beetles were the most amusing by far. This book is perfect for budding artists of any age!

***Many thanks to the Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Ten Step Drawing : Animals is a very fun step-by-step guide that will be quiet helpful to artists who would like to draw realistic looking animals. Some of them were pretty easy to follow and the steps were explained very well.

This is a great book for simple drawings that can be made complex with the details. I just loved how she walked me through step by step from simple to complex and there emerged an amazing animal out of it. She doesn’t add a bunch more details than just what I need, which I liked. There are also so many animal options to choose from. Land animals and sea creatures. I loved that she added so many options to choose from. There’s bound to be something for everyone. Grab your drawing pencils and paper and plan to sit down with this book soon.

Ten Steps to Drawing Animals is a good book that would be nice for people learning to draw or for teaching students how to draw. It is a very easy guide and will help you out a lot. I have not one bit artistic skill whatsoever and even I was able to draw and create some cute animal critters.
