Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

I have a confession to make , i am in love with this book.
I don't even know where to start there are so many things in it that i am excited about.

From the beginning then.. don't be fooled by the pretty cover, this is not another watercolour tutorial or painting step by step guide. it really is a "workshop"of mixed media activities.
Even from the first few pages this book stood out, the Table of contents page has the loveliest of page layouts/border, in between chapters are beautiful nature photos and each page has little extra that completes the book for wonderfully.

The meet the artist section was really nice, its great to see who does what and put a face to the art.
The book is split into sections, Flowers, stones and shells, wood, other natural elements and nature inspired art.

I started to jot down my most favorite projects , the ones i 100% will be trying and more than likely for gifts , however the list was pretty much every project in the book so i have narrowed it down to the projects that i believe anyone can do and get a great result and that are the most original or different from what i have seen before.
The leaf roses, Pressed flower sugar skull, beach mandala, leaf study garland, wood burning coasters and feather illustration. These projects along with all the others are brilliant .

I couldn't not mention my absolute favorite section though, the wood burning section. this unfortunately is often an overlooked craft, however the information, explanation and projects in this book are excellent. The herb rack is unreal!

This book is an absolute pleasure to read, and a brilliant and absolutely essential book for anyone who enjoys art ,crafts, nature, mixed media, and homemade gifts.

I have already preordered this to add to our home library.

What a little treasure Nature Art Workshop: by Katie Brooks, Sarah Lorraine Edwards,. This was and a great find. I just loved this book and the way everything flowed. A lot of thought went into it especially as its cramped with so much information.
This wonderful book is split into lots of sections, and has brilliant step-by-step instructions on how to create your creations. There are so many in this book, more than 50 tips, techniques, and projects for using found materials to create mixed-media artwork inspired by nature. This will keep you busy for a long time. Some of these are Pressed Flower ceramic dish, Flowered adorned candles, How to paint stones, features, shells, leaves the list goes on............this book is inspired by nature and will get out outdoors to hunt for these wonderful items to make your creation.

I found this book would be great for groups i.e. Scouts, Brownies, Guides, Church groups,Mum, dad, aunties and uncles and especially for Schools. This is a book that will help get us out side looking for things to make our creations for home or presents.

Highly recommended! for all ages young to mature.

There is plenty in this book to get your creative juices flowing. As a crafter myself, there are ideas in each section that I not only found informative but also found myself thinking of ways to adapt what I was being shown.

I've not tried flower pressing yet love some of the ideas in Nature Art to want me to give it a go and soon!

Reading this via a tablet was sometimes a little long winded to get the pages to turn but well worth the wait. The colourful presentation throughout along with tips and ideas and very nicely laid out instructions were easy to follow and beautifully presented. I am part of a craft group and know the girls would love the inspiration and ideas given in this book and I'll definitely recommend it to them for some of our future projects, we love combining nature within our projects and the contents within this book suit our style of crafting enormously.

I received Nature Art Workshop via NetGalley and I would recommend to any reader/crafter wanting a lovely presented craft workshop full of mix-media ideas. It would also make a fabulous present to any new or seasoned crafters.

There is much to inspire crafters and would-be crafters in this book filled to the brim with mixed media projects based on natural materials. Flowers, stones and shells, wood, and other materials all take their turns in the spotlight with projects by several artists.

The book is visually appealing as well and would make a nice addition to any crafters library.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto - Walter Foster Publishing for allowing me the privilege to review this book.

Every page brought fresh ideas to use in creating wonderful gifts or projects to do with children or friends. I enjoyed seeing the use of natural items to create with as well as inspiration for artistic endeavors. This is a book I would like to spend time with so I could try pressing flowers and then making collages with those flowers or using slices of wood to make coasters or jewelry or for the Day of the Dead a skull made of flower petals might be splendid. I had never seen how a crown of flowers was made and enjoyed the illustrations and might want to try that, too.

I guess I would really like to get this for my library in the future OR perhaps give it to a friend that might enjoy some of the projects…actually have one or two friends in mind ;)

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing-Walter Foster for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Nature Art Workshop by Katie Brooks, Sarah Lorraine Edwards, Allison Hetzell & Mikko Sumulong is a gorgeous and intensely creatively inspiring book. The book is a visual feast for the eye. The photos are spectacular and the drawing and painting are enticing. This is the perfect book for the creative person who would like to combine their artist desires and combine them with the natural world. The first chapter is about flowers. Gorgeous ideas for flowers from fresh to pressed to making a mandella. The second chapter is all about stones and shells. There are many ideas and inspiration for painting on stones. Small landscapes painted on stones and shells. There is also a section here about working with negative space. The next chapter is about wood. How to use wood for stamping, how to decorate wood for your home as well as painting and burning on wood. The next chapter is on using natural elements like feathers and acorns.
Loved this book. I would leave it out so I could pick it up and be inspired daily. Well done. Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster Walter Foster Publishing, the authors Katie Brooks, Sarah Lorraine Edwards, Allison Hetzell & Mikko Sumulong and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful and inspiring book. It is overflowing with pictures and illustrations. The projects are fully explained with clear step by step instructions. I love the way different materials from the natural world are used as canvasses for painting and drawing scenes. My favourite is the landscape painted on a feather. The projects and very imaginative and a variety of techniques are used. I think it would be a brilliant book to use with children too. Overall an excellent book. Thank you

Simply a wonderfull book. So many ideas that are easy to create yourself.
I never used natural resources for art but after this book I really wanna start. There are so many ideas you want to try asap. It's a fun and beautiful approach to mixed media art.

This book has some beautiful projects, unfortunately for me, many are painting related. I am not good at painting pictures but I still enjoyed seeing the creations of these works.
There were other projects that didn't include painting that I am really excited especially the candle project.
I loved how colorful the book was and it provided pictures every step of the way, making it easy to replicate the project.

Is there anything more inspiring than nature? Here, multiple artists contribute a wide variety of projects inspired by nature, many using natural elements as the canvas or the medium. I especially loved the pressed flower collage, painted stones and shells, leaf study garland and screenprinting project. The skill level needed varies throughout the projects as well so there's something for everyone from beginner to more experienced artist.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this fun book. All comments are my own, unbiased opinion.

This gorgeous book has sharp photographs to inspire crafts using flowers, wood, shells, feathers, acorns, and other items found in nature. These projects show that natural elements found in a backyard or nearby park can be used to make pictures, candles, and other art projects. A lovely book to have around the classroom for children and youth to get ideas for their projects.

Not at all what I had expected, but a lot more! Please do not buy this as a Christmas gift, unless you know the person loves arty crafts and making things. If you are the person who loves to give personalised, special handmade gifts, this is the book for you! Instagrammers, social media photo show-offs, this is one book that gives you a lot of ideas on what you can make and show off your handicraft skills.
Definitely a keeper

Most of the time, when I pick up a book that's project-based, I'm looking for techniques I can springboard into projects of my own devising. It works well for me that way -- I can take the inspiration and keep my own style.

I have to tell you, though: this book? I kinda wanted to make a bunch of these exactly as pictured. There's an earthy style to them (as one would probably expect from a nature art book, natch), and it doesn't skew toward the cutesy or too far into the technical. It's a nice mix of projects, broken down into the natural material from which the project is made, ranging from rocks and seashells to wood and flowers.

I will say that some things were a little simplistic, probably better suited for children, maybe. Or as a parent-and-me craftalong. And there are quite a few that might feel a little like those wine-and-canvas workshops, where you're shown how to paint an exact scene exactly as the artist does. Fair warning, if you don't like that kind of step by step.

That said, I absolutely LOVED a lot of it. Including pretty much the entire wood section, where the author did really fun things with wood slices, including a leaf study garland that I'm planning on making pretty much right now. (I have the wood slices cut, even, and sitting on my desk waiting for me to drill holes in them.) I loved the idea of painting on shells at the beach -- I've done rock painting/abandoning before, and loved it, but somehow never thought about using shells, too. And next on my project list is an herb rack, because that thing came out amazing in the book.

A note, too, on the book itself: the photography is beautiful. They did an amazing job with it. Sometimes, books will skimp a little on styling the stuff that's more "filler" (page/chapter headers, etc.), but even the section headers are really beautifully done. It makes the book really beautiful overall, as an object itself.

If you like to work with natural materials, or want to start incorporating them into your work, this is a very good place to start.

Roses made from fallen leaves, pressed flower candles, painted shells, using wood for stamps, caligraphy, woodburning, feathers, and so much more. A book packed with ideas for things to do with what you can find/collect in nature.

Wonderful step-by-step pictured guides to help you recreate the wonderful nature art in this book.

Very beautiful art projects created with found materials in nature. I’m not sure the context in which you would do a few of them, but I’m sure if you’re into this, you would know. My favorite project was the flamingo pressed flower collage. There are copious pictures and instructions throughout, so this is great for people who are completely new to creating this type of art.

Two of the things I like the most reusing and nature. This book fills that need. It has everything from flower art, pressing flowers, stones, shells, wood, leaves and feathers and such. I especially liked the Shell Mandela and Wood Calligraphy Planters. This is for adults or older children to do crafts with. I found the directions to be very through and helpful. It may even inspire me to paint. (not one of my talents). It is a beautifully illustrated book and full of great ideas I never thought of.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised by how inspiring this book was. I have a pretty big collection of books I keep for creative inspiration and this one is a delightful addition! I was immediately inspired to go out and collect flowers to dry to use in the collage and mandala projects the book described. Unfortunately, it's near the end of the growing season around here so I'll have to wait till next spring. But I definitely enjoyed this book and I plan to pull it out before my next hike to get some more ideas.

For me I think this is a great art/DIY book. There are different levels of works and different things to make and make things out of. Anyone who wants to incorporate nature into their crafts this can be one of them.

I spend a lot of time outdoors - it is my favorite way of relaxing. I simply go for a walk, perhaps take my camera and do some photography on my way. When I picked up "Nature Art Workshop", I got excited about a possibility of finding another creative outlet relating to my time outdoors, allowing me to preserve some of my experiences for the days when the weather or other activities keep me indoors.

The projects in "Nature Art Workshop" are of great variety. They are either based on collected items: stones, feathers, petals etc. or are only nature-inspired. Or are a combination of both. They vary in their difficulty. Some consist of simply arranging objects like shells or flowers, on the surface to create a display or a unique centerpiece. More elaborate involve painting on small surfaces like shells or wood slices. Although the step-by-step instruction allows following almost as paint-by-the-numbers.

Although wood carving is a more elaborate technique and not broadly known, the related projects take the disproportional amount of space in the book. The technique, tools, and other materials are described in detail. It caused a few other projects not make it into the final book- but no worries, they can be downloaded separately, for free, on the book website.

The one thing I found missing from the book was some kind of Resources section. I could use a list of numerous art supplies used in proposed projects, like brushes, palettes, paint (what kind of paint? is there only one kind?). For beginners, who do not have the most basic art supplies at home, going to the art store can be a daunting and discouraging task. Another thing I found useful in similar books was a template section, allowing the more involved shapes to be copied, preferably at the correct scale. After all, not everybody can sketch even such a simple thing as a bunch of herbs.

While I can not wait for spring flowers to try some of the easy projects in "Nature Art Workshop", I am excited that I was reminded of simple roses made of colorful fallen leaves. I suppose many people are familiar with this one from their Social Media streams. I still cannot wait to do it again this year, following the steps in the book. Perhaps I will do another project with remaining leaves?

A paradise of colors to my eyes. Simple and artistic.
This book is perfect for those who want to do projects that include elements of nature, such as flowers, stones and shells, and wood. Every project has simple and clear explanation on how to do it and the images are beautiful. All the chapters are interesting with very creative ideas, always maintaining a simple vision. I hadn’t yet seen the first chapter and the motivation to do all that was enormous.
It’s a great combination of art and nature.

Some of the best times I had teaching my children over our years of homeschooling were outside in nature.

We did the nature walk scavenger hunt thing, we spread a blanket on the beach and learned about sea life, we even sat in a big hole in the backyard to learn literature analysis. Those really were some of the most fantastic moments with my kids.

There is just something about nature and forests that allows your child to really learn and explore.

I recently read three fabulous books that can help you teach your children math and art using a nature theme. These are books you can use with your little ones to learn math and appreciate nature. You can also use them with your elementary aged children to do those wonderful crafting and art projects that really make the memories. And you can use these books with middle ages and even high schoolers who love to get out and smell that crisp fall air in the woods.
Nature Art Workshop

Nature Art Workshop is a collaboration between authors Allison Hetzell, Mikko Sumulong, Katie Brooks, and Sarah Lorraine Edwards to create a complete set of art lessons in a paperback book. This book is not just a drawing course. Many crafting techniques are combined to allow you and your child to explore and recreate the wonders of nature. Lessons range from creating a crown out of flowers your child picks, to painting feathers and acorns. The focus of each project is making art with nature using the actual materials, not just drawing pictures of them. This is a delightful hands-on book that will be one you pull out time and again to create art with your children!

Nature Art Workshop: Tips, Techniques, and Step-by-Step Projects for Creating Nature-Inspired Art by Katie Brooks, Sarah Lorraine Edwards, Allison Hetzell, and Mikko Sumulong is a visual resource for any artist or crafter desiring to combine their art with their love of the nature. Each page inspires artists to look at the world around them in a new light while they learn to create their own nature-inspired art. Four artists guide readers through finding and preparing traditional and natural elements to use in creating fun and unique nature-inspired projects with simple step-by-step instructions. Nature Art Workshop: Tips, Techniques, and Step-by-Step Projects for Creating Nature-Inspired Art is divided into sections based on the natural supplies that artists and crafters might be interested in using. THe brief information about each artist was interesting to read. I liked that I could browse based on the items I have on hand, the things I want to learn, or just read through the entire book for the full experience. The instructions are clear and understandable, with detailed photographs to help readers follow the steps and achieve the results they are looking for. While not all the projects were of my taste, or what I would consider in my skill set yet, I felt like there was something for all readers that might choose to pick up this title. It has given me some ideas for holiday gift giving this winter, and ideas for new things I want to try. I have not tested any of the projects yet, but I have plans to give several a go as soon as I can.

Nature Art Workshop: Tips, Techniques, and Step-by-Step Projects for Creating Nature-Inspired Art is a great resource for artists and crafters from a variety of skill and interest levels.

This book is most recommended for those who are looking for their perfect hobby and want to explore different materials and techniques that include natural elements like flowers, stones, shells, wood, etc. The projects are simple and most of them can be done with kids. If you want to relax while doing something creative and benefit from some “art therapy”, this book is most appropriate. Some projects are as simple as creating mandala shapes with flower petals or forming shapes with stones (which btw would look fabulous in the garden).

For the well-seasoned crafter: these projects could be too simple for you and you might have tried some of them already (flower crowns, painted wood, pressed flowers) but because it has a wide selection of techniques, you are bound to find something new or at least inspiring. This might be more a source of inspiration for getting you out of an artistic block or as an starting point for creating your own projects. I read this book as an eARC.

Nature Art Workshop is a collaborative project tutorial book from Quarto publishing's Walter Foster imprint. Released 18th Sept 2018, it's 128 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats. The projects are eclectic and varied and include pyrography (woodburning), painting, mindfulness, crafting with found objects (leaves, shells, rocks), candles and more.

Unusually for me, there were a number of projects included which I really wanted to recreate as closely as I could to the pictured tutorials. For me, there's often a very fine line between oh wow! and no way! Each of these tutorials includes step by step materials lists, full color photographs and a picture of the finished project.

The book is a collaboration by 11 listed artists (most with links to their online portfolio sites) and each one provides tutorials for specific projects. There are 32 separate projects grouped into 4 main chapters: Flowers, Stones&Shells, Wood, and Other Natural Elements. There's also a final chapter on Nature-Inspired art which includes some shorter one-page tutorials including screen printing and painting (see the cover). The e-book version includes an interactive table of contents for convenience.

There have been a crop of really high quality art tutorial books from Walter Foster lately. This one is no exception. These would also make a really good supervised art module in a classroom setting for middle/high school students. Some of them could be modified for younger students as well.

Just a really well made, well photographed volume full of really appealing projects.

Five stars, I really enjoyed this one.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Admittedly, I am unsure where to start. When I originally requested to read Nature Art Workshop I had an ulterior motive. My husband and I just sold our home to begin building our forever home. However, in between we would be living on a piece of property in a RV. With that thought in mind, I knew I would be surrounded by nature and I did not want to be cooped inside. This book truly came to the rescue. Broken down in easy to find sections, you can choose whether you want to craft with flowers, rocks, wood, and so on. The crafts are wonderfully photographed and the instructions very easy to follow. Not to mention, I showed my sons this book and even they found themselves interested in trying out some of the crafts! Highly recommend for anyone looking to get outdoors and craft.

Love the photographs! Love the ideas too, although some of them may be a little hard for beginners, most of them are gorgeous and interesting enough for me to try them out. It's been a while since the last time I drew, but flipping over the gorgeous pages of this book make me gave me motivation to try to pick up painting techniques again.
