This was a quick read. It jumps right into the story but I still liked it. I could picture Captain Jack in my head and wow he was hot. Both characters were strong and sincere. I liked the story. I definitely need to read the next book asap. It does end in a cliffhanger though.
This was a quick, sexy read with plenty of hot sex. Jake and Piper have incredible sexual chemistry that takes off the day they meet at a mascarade ball. She's a undercover report who falls for Captain Jack. While it was a decent novella it does end with a cliffhanger which is a bummer.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Here’s the thing, I loved how this story started – masquerade ball? I’m in. But their one night stand was honestly cringe worthy. It all happened too fast (before the sex I mean), it lacked details and suddenly they started having sex. Like I need to feel the chemistry first, you know? Reading the sex part made me cringe and I just didn’t feel connected to the characters at that point.
I know I’m repeating myself from book to book but this one was short also. Too short. In fact, when I requested this book I didn’t even know it has less than 100 pages! I didn’t check on Goodreads. The story continues in the second book which -again- has less than 100 pages. I was not impressed with this and I was and still am pissed at an author to do that. Why not make one book with a decent amount of pages? Is it the need to make more money? Or the ”cliffhanger” so readers would want to know how their story continues?
I hate cliffhangers, especially if I am not warned in advance there is one (some books have that mentioned on NetGalley, this one didn’t). I would overlook the pacing of this book and give it 4 stars but this ending pissed me so much I am giving it 3 stars. I will not continue with this story, I am not interested in what happens to them and I will check the next time for cliffhangers if I’ll read a book by this author.
