I liked this book. It has a pretty good haunting in it, the character starts out hateful and then gradually finds out that she was not a nice person while alive and then becomes someone you like. The rest of the story is interesting with lots going on. #DixielandDead #NetGalley

Kindle Copy for Review from Net Galley

I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Facials are not supposed to be literally deadly. But when hairstylist Jolene Claiborne decides to expand her business and her customer ends up dead in one of her room things get out of hand.

Could this be tied in with a recent break in and the dead dive customer who haunts the place until the murder is found? Throw in a sexy detective and an overly motherly mom into the mix.
A new promising series.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. First in a series. It was an interesting read. Reminds us that we don't really know people. Take a minute to be nice! Jolene recently discovered she sees ghosts and wants to solve the murder so the ghost can move on. I didn't get the whole thing about her dad?! Why include that?? I found that just odd. The relationship between Bradford and Jolene seemed forced and I didn't get the chemistry vibe at all. It was cute and a bit silly. I think mystery readers who.like a bit of paranormal would like this. I give it a 3.5.

A funny book :) Slight mystery, humor, and fun, what else more could you want in a book? Can't wait to see what's coming next with the series.

Dixieland Dead by Penny Burwell Ewing is a novel about a haunted salon in Whiskey Creek Georgia. Whiskey Creek is the typical small town where everyone knows everyone and harbors a strong sense of community. When Scarlett dies during a facial at Dixieland Salon there is plenty of gossip and speculation about who might have murdered her. There are plenty of suspects with reasons to hate Scarlett. Scarlett wants to help find her murderer and haunts the salon and other places but only Jolene is able to see and hear her. The police remind to Jolene to stop trying to investigate their case but then Scarlett shows up and entices her into another place to look for evidence. Who will finally solve the case and will Scarlett rest peacefully in the hereafter or decide to stay permanently in the salon?
I enjoyed this book. It is an easy read and quick to read. There are parts that are absolutely hilarious. The descriptions of Scarlett’s outfits in her ghostly state are so detailed you can see them pop off the page. Because she is so active it is easy to forget this is a murder mystery and Scarlett is the deceased. I believe this book will appeal to a wide audience and I will be looking for additional title is this series. I give this book 5 of 5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

DIXIELAND DEAD is the first book in the Haunted Salon series. As with most cozy mystery series, I would recommend reading the first one first. This is where you “meet” the characters.

This was a fun, humorous, Southern, paranormal, cozy mystery with a touch of romantic angst. This promises to be a wonderful series.

I loved Jolene, her sisters, their clients and co-workers, and Scarlett the ghost. Not all of the characters are immediately likeable, but they grow on you as most people do.

I loved the mystery and the suspense. Awesome book – well written!

The first chapter of book two is included at the end of the book. I read it and then kicked myself because I don’t have that second book yet! I want more!

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Dixieland Dead by Penny Burwell Ewing is the 1st book in the Haunted Salon mystery series, and it was delightful. Jolene is the manager of her family's hair salon along with her two sisters and their mother's financial backing in Whiskey Creek, Georgia. When Scarlett Cantrell, the town's love to hate socialite, comes in the salon for a facial, she ends up dead. In order to save the salon, Jolene is determine to find the real killer. On top of everything, Scarlett comes back as a ghost to cause more mayhem, and only Jolene can see her. I really enjoyed this funny cozy mystery, and am looking forward to the next book in the series, Utterly Deadly Southern Pecan Pie. If you are looking for a unique and fun read, I recommend this book.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book was a fun little romp through the Southern heat - mixed in with a little bit of murder. It requires a little suspension of belief, but its worth it for this adorable cozy.

Jolene owns a salon in Whiskey Creek, Georgia with her two sisters and mother. One of their clients is a troublemaking local celebrity who, during what was supposed to be a routine facial, suddenly ends up dead - and her ghost claims to need Jolene’s help solving her murder or she’s going to wind up floating around the salon for all eternity. And it turns out the now-dead Scarlett is much more complicated than she appeared.

This book is as heavy on humor as it is on mystery, which was a nice touch - there were times I was literally laughing out loud at some of the one-liners that came out of Jolene’s mouth. Her mother and sisters were also a treat.

I also liked that the storyline was straight-forward; who killed Scarlett and why were the main questions, needed to answer so that Scarlett could Rest In Peace. It was refreshing to just be able to enjoy a nice, light book and not have to think that much.

However, there wer some things that were a little out there (angel attorneys! Blackmail by gangsters!) but when you’re dealing with a story that purports to have a ghost as a main character, there’s a little leeway for stuff like that. I didn’t mind it at all.

Honestly, I would totally read more in this series, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the characters and their relationships go. This book will be a hit with anyone who enjoys a good cozy and wants to just read their troubles away.

First in the series. Jolene runs a beauty salon, and when a client ends up dying from a facial it gets the town in an uproar. Trying to save her business, plus deal with the ghost of the dead woman, keep the book tripping along. Good story, and liked the characters overall, but must admit it was hard to keep track of them at times, especially at the end. Wraps up a little quick at the end too, where more details would help. Still though, I enjoyed it and look forward to more in the series. Would recommend.
