Description
Parents today are looking for names as unique as their children. And the popularity of fantasy worlds and series, from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones, has added a dash of magic to the naming process. From ancient mythology to modern pop culture, the names for baby girls in this volume are imbued with spiritual, mystical—even otherworldly—history and meaning. Each name taps into its own unique feminine power, conjuring an indomitable spirit who made her name known to the world.
In Epic Baby Names for Girls, journalist Melanie Mannarino offers entries that introduce various namesake magical characters/historical figures, a history of the name itself, and alternate spellings/variations. She also includes interesting tidbits, such as when the name surged in popularity (say, after a movie came out). This book is the must-have guide for any parent looking to give their daughter a strong, heroic name—and the perfect gift for feminist parents-to-be.

I loved this book. It’s more of a guide than anything else but I’m happy and grateful that a book featuring badass girl names was published. A lot of these names are well known and I have to say my favorite chapter is the one with the mythological names because the author even included some history about the Greek Gods which was fascinating to read.
A cute book if you’re looking to name your child or if you’re like me and love to pick certain names that represent something for characters in your writing.
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC.
I am 63 years old, so there will be no more naming of babies for me… However, I am a fiction writer and loved all the many suggestions for awesome girl names for my characterS.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
