Danger, shady dealings, and revenge

Emma is horrified when she finds out her college rapist has bought the pharmaceutical company where she works and is now her boss. She tells her old friend Eric and then her psychologist. She wants him gone . She teams up with her daughter, her friend Lori, a reporter Abby, and a co worker and friend Dana and they try to put him out of business so he will leave.

While investigating they find out about crooked cops, bribes, unsafe drugs and an unsavory institution . They get themselves into some serious trouble and rile some dangerous people.

The story has mystery, suspense, and a lot more. It really made me think. With the high prices of drugs could the pharmaceutical people be bribing people to get the drugs approved faster? Are the new modern drugs coming on the market really safe? This is a book of fiction, but it was scary for me because I could see something like that really happening, and I am not real sure it isn’t.

I recommend the book, and I think if you read it, I think it will make you think as well.

All opinions in my review are solely my own.

Thanks to Elena Mikalsen, The Wild Rose Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an advance copy of the book.

Truly a novel that had me on the edge of my chair! I was angry, sad, hopeful, and definitely petrified at times!
How does anyone ever get over the anger and humiliation of being raped, losing a scholarship, and then having to depart from college because not a soul believes that this abuse has actually occurred?
Years gone by- a family, a good job and friends; Emma thinks she has moved forward from the torment in the past.
However, a new new company president takes over and it is the last person Emma can possibly imagine!
The football player who had raped her and changed her world?
Her anger comes to the surface and the plots for revenge begin!
I was afraid for Emma and her family!
I was truly encompassed by this story! It had me from the very first chapter and I was stuck until the very end!
Excellent!

This was a very thought provoking story. Emma was raped and beaten as a young college student. The. system failed her even though she did everything right, she reported it, went to hospital, had exam, saw counselor, reported to university....but he was a hot shot quarterback...she was a nobody, she "asked for it" "what did she expect at a frat party?" Nobody paid but Emma...She went on to go back to school after working for yrs to pay for it having lost her scholarship, PTSD plagued her life but she passed it off as anxiety. She was married, had a daughter life was good....then her company is bought out and who is her new boss??? Her rapist....her world explodes around her...Elena gives a voice to all the silent voices out there, very well written story dealing with difficult subjects

ALL THE SILENT VOICES by Elena is a book that really kept me turning the pages. How far would you take revenge in getting back at those that harmed you in the past. After being sexually assaulted and force to leave college, Emma Shepherd has built a new life for herself. Only her close friend actually knows all that happened to her in the past. When your company is taken over by your worst nightmare, what do you do. What follows is a thrilling read, action packed with all kind of twists and turns. I highly recommend this book to those that love psychologial suspense thrillers.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my fair and honest review.

What would you do if after twenty-one years your new boss turns out to be the man who drugged, beat and raped you? Emma has moved on and is happily married, but then learns that the new president of the company that both she and her husband work for is that man. What should she do? Neither her husband or daughter are aware of what happened in her past. She wants the justice that she was denied so many years ago, but at what cost? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

This book made me feel a range of emotions. I wanted Emma to get revenge, which is not the right thing to do. But I was scared for her, and cried for her. No one should have to go through what she went through. Reading about how people get paid to look the other way to get a drug approved is extremely sad but true. I loved the bond between Emma and Sophie! Thank you for writing such a wonderful book!

I rarely binge read, but this grabbed me from the get go! It’s a tense psychological novel that relates to the current #MeToo movement. A brutal rape in college, continues to affect its multiple participants 20 years later, as the rapist invades Emma’s life, when he buys the company she works for. Attempting to protect her family from her pain, she chooses revenge to try and even the score and destroy him.
This is a well researched by talented Elena Mikalsen as she develops strong, interesting characters, as she navigates the pharmaceutical companies, the FDA and a corrupt police department, elite college and other county officials.
It will keep you hooked until the conclusion. Thanks to #NetGalley #WildRosePress for my ARC All opinions are my own.

This fast paced thriller is quite a timely story in light of the Me Too Movement. There is much to think about here. Not only rape and assault on women but about the power of drug companies. It is BIG business and tremendous money makers. When there is that much money involved there is bound to be corruption. And this kind of corruption can be life threatening.

What if your rapist of many years ago suddenly appeared as your new boss in your workplace?

Husband and wife, Emma and Aidan Shephard are both worried about their jobs. They work for Davis & Parsons, a pharmaceutical company, and the owner is planning to sell. The buyer is Avias Global, which is set to merge with D&P. And guess what? The president of the company is Richard Stoker, Emma’s rapist, who left her suffering and dying in a cold stairwell. There is no doubt in Emma’s mind that this is the football hero who brutally attacked her at Westview, more than two decades earlier.

All she had to do was report it. After all, she had a rape kit, severe bruising and cuts as evidence. But, the powers at Westview, including the dean, dismissed Emma’s assault claims back then. She didn’t even have the support of the police force. If the football star’s reputation was damaged it would endanger the building of a multimillion dollar sports arena. That is much more important.

Not surprisingly, Emma has never shared this information with her husband, Aidan. The physical scars are gone but the mental hurt has never faded.

Now is Emma’s chance to get revenge. Emma focuses her clever plan on the new drug called Parozex, an antipsychotic drug Richard wants fast-tracked to FDA approval despite potentially fatal side effects. The side effects can easily be buried in the fine print. Who reads that stuff anyway?!

Emma looks for dirt on the new boss and uncovers a surprising link to her former college roomie, Shannon, as well as Emma’s boyfriend at Westview, Jeff.

Richard’s scheme to get Parozex fast tracked to the market is definitely unethical, but with employees scared of losing their jobs and Aidan getting chummy with Richard, convincing others won’t be easy for Emma.

Emma’s Westview story is heartbreaking. She often blames herself for Richard’s vicious assault and is psychologically incapable of using stairs, as the attack took place in a stairwell. Yet Emma is strong and she does persevere even as she stumbles. So, is it wrong when she involves her teen daughter, Sophie, for her hacking skills to dredge up info on Richard? That’s a biggie because now her daughter is in grave danger.

There’s compelling suspense, especially near the end, and surprising plot twists.

The book does highlight Emma’s triumphs, such as the support she receives from and provides for another rape survivor.

A work of fiction that reads like an all true story in our society.

Great read! Fast paced and suspenseful. From a college rape to a drug company corruption; I couldn’t read fast enough. This authors books seem to get better with each one I read! Highly recommend if you like suspense.

All the Silent Voices was a thought provoking, topical read. The idea of someone who had such such a huge impact on Emma's life turning up as her boss was very interesting to me as a reader, and would be gut wrenching if this happened in real life.

The way the story unfolded was something that really kept me turning pages, wanting to find out what happened. I did enjoy the character of Emma and found her reactions and emotions to be very realistic.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys women's fiction and has had interest in the #MeToo movement. Thank you to the author, Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC at my request. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Katie went to a party with her good friend Shannon. Shannon introduced her to Richard and from that point on her night was a living nightmare.

Twenty some years later Katie is now known as Emma. Emma is married with a daughter who is getting ready to go off to college herself.

Emma and her husband Aiden work in the same company which is being bought out from another company and when Emma sees that the CEO is Richard she comes up with a plan to make sure Richard does not succeed in making all the money he intended to make.

There are a lot of twists you won't see coming in All the Silent Voices. Strong characters and just a all around great read. Can't wait to read more by Elena Mikalsen!

This was a fast paced, chat turn the pages fast enough kind of book
Emma was raped in college. Although no one believed her. After many years she is able to put the past behind her. She reinvents herself, marries and is living a life, until her rapist reappears and buys the company she works for.
What a wild ride and I highly recommend this book

This was the first book that I have read from this author and it won't be the last.

It's a little different than other thrillers as we know what the crime is and who is the victim. W hat we don't know are details that change opinions on the characters. I went in thinking I knew the basics of the plot and how it was going to end and was prepared to really be disappointed. However the author does a great job spinning things around and changing it up!

This will not be the last book that I read by this author.

Wow what a fantastic book!! A victim and her rapist go toe to toe. Who will win? A woman's revenge against her rapist has her spinning out of control and putting lives in danger. This book had everything! It is suspenseful, chilling, and heartbreaking at times.

This is a captivating read. Thank you to net galley for the arc. It is thought provoking and has very real issues in this day and time
Rape and deception from pharmaceutical companies is only part of the story. The courage to overcome her past and to get long delayed justice is the rest of the story. I found myself pulling for Emma and all the others who have been silenced. A good story for today's world. Everyone should read this and take heed.

This was a good book. Kept my interest for the most part. Lost me a little when it got too much into the pharmaceutical world but I still stuck with it.

This is the story of a woman who was raped in college, by the football star. She tries to get justice, but everyone is seems is against her, and she gets blamed for the rape. And is forced to leave the school. Then, 20 years later, she’s married with a teenage daughter. Her and her husband work for a pharmaceutical company. And she soon learns that her rapist is not her boss.
This book.. it had the promise of a good story. But I just couldn’t get into it. There were parts that kept my attention and I couldn’t put it down, but then, through most of it, I had to force myself to read it. The story seemed to be all over the place. And I couldn’t get into all the pharmaceutical talk. You did feel sorry for the main character, though she makes some bad choices in her quest for revenge. And I really did enjoy the ending. It was certainly a surprise.

Another fast paced read by Elena Mikalsen. Emma has tried to rebuild her life after being raped and beaten in college. What she doesn’t expect is her assailant to reappear as her boss in the life her and her husband Aidan have built, Aidan also has zero clue about her past. This is a book I could not put down. Definitely a 5 s Star ⭐️ read!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Emma was taped in college and nothing was done. The football player gets away with it and she is made to feel all the blame.
Twenty years later, happily married with an almost grown daughter, her life is changed. The rapist is now her boss. What lengths will Emma go to, in order for revenge/justice?
There are tons of twists and turns in this story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It matches well with reality and how some over entitled people get away with anything. The ending was spot on and very good. Thanks to Netgalley and The Wild Rose Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is author Elena Mikalsen’s third book, and with each her prose has tightened. Here, she draws upon her experience as a psychologist. Her protagonist, college student Emma, has been raped, beaten, and left for dead by a football player. She is forced from school and spends years trying to block out the attack. Eventually she moves on, finds a loving husband, and has a high-school-aged daughter. Emma works in marketing for a pharmaceutical company. When her company is bought out by another, she learns that her new boss is her rapist. All her old feelings of despair and anger return. She vows revenge.

This emotion-packed thriller is particularly apt in light of the current #MeToo movement. Emma’s rape kit was destroyed before it could be tested. The people who were supposed to help her (her counselors, the dean, even the police) instead sweep her rape under the carpet—all so the school could build a sports complex.

Adding to the drama are Emma’s infertility and the fact that she’s never told her husband, Aidan, that she was raped. Emma’s desire for revenge endangers not only herself, but her family, and often approaches illegal methods.

Mikalsen also provides an intimate look into the world of the pharmaceutical industry. Like many of the mega-industries in American, Big Pharma is full of graft and corruption with profits made at the cost of people’s lives. As a physician myself, I found these elements accurate and they gave a sense of verisimilitude to the novel.

This book reads as a near-documentary of many of America’s current flaws.

This is a powerful book dealing with unpunished rape and FDA approval of dangerous drugs. The author clearly did a lot of research to write this book. I can’t begin to imagine the horror of coming face-to-face with the man who raped you 20 years ago. He will now be her boss, and wants her help to force a new drug through the FDA process, even though there are known deadly side effects. With help from friends, she both exposes the college they both attended and the drug company for their fraudulent actions. This a very suspenseful novel, and has quite a few unexpected plot twists. While this book is fiction, it is a very good perception of our society today. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received an ARC of Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I was quickly pulled into this story and it's characters. This thriller had me turning pages until the end.

***Spoiler alert***
I did not like how Emma involved her daughter with illegal actions and trapping Ben and this wasn't believable with the rest of the Emma's character.

Overall I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller.

Emma was raped at college by Richard but no one believed her, including her boyfriend Jeff, so she dropped out.
Years later, happily married with a teenage daughter Sophie, she meets Richard - his company has just bought the Pharma company where she and her husband Aidan work.
Emma is distraught and tries to get her husband to leave the company but doesn’t tell him the reason why.
She becomes determined to seek revenge and drags her daughter into it which I found disturbing and a little unrealistic.
Emma finds out she is pregnant but is still hellbent on revenge.
I understood this but lost empathy for her when she didn’t seem to care at times who she dragged into her schemes.
Fast paced and well written but was a bit disappointed with the ending.

When I started this book I was not sure I was going to be able to handle it. It starts out quite violently. A young college girl getting beaten and raped in a stairwell outside a frat party. It was horrific. But it was the beginning of a book that will give you a lot to think about.

This book sure touches on quite a few subjects. College football players getting away and even encouraged to rape young freshman girls. The girls being told it’s their fault and subsequently being forced out of the college. The sad thing is this is actually happening in colleges all across this nation and they are getting away with it. The corruption that goes into choosing players. Paying them off to come to each college. The promise of drugs and girls. I sure hope all colleges do not do this but am willing to bet almost all of them do. It definitely needs to be stopped.

Also the drug manufacturers and what is going on there. It’s a huge money making racket that some very high up people are getting rich from at the expense of us as humans who may depend on said drugs to live. Money being paid to officials to keep quiet about the side effects of dangerous drugs. It’s all for the profit not the health of the people.

Combine these two things and you have a story of a woman who was brutally raped and then years later having to face that rapist as her boss. That alone would be more than I could handle but Emma is a very strong woman. She’s already been through a lot in her life. She’s happily married and has a daughter who will soon be leaving for college. She also suffered numerous miscarriages that ripped her and her husbands hearts into. It’s a sad story in many ways but also a happy one in that they have such a strong marriage that they can endure almost anything. Aidan, Emma’s husband does not know for a long time why Emma hates Richard so much and so deeply. But when he does find out he is beside her through everything. He supports her no matter what. As he should. It took Emma a long time to face what happened after being made to feel she did something wrong and was the cause of the attack.

This book will give you many feelings. Some of hatred. Some of loss and a lot of anger. It made me cry in so many places to think about what Emma went through as a young girl starting out. She had already lost so much. But she does have a happy life twenty one years later and that is so wonderful. You will root for her and Aidan to make it. To be strong and be there for each other. For their daughter Sophie too. She plays a very important part in this story as does Emma’s roommate in college.

Most of the characters in this book are very likable. Lovable actually. But a few you will totally detest and wish bad things on so be warned. When a person is that evil you just want to see them hurting.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #ElenaMikalsen and #WildRosePress for the eARC of this book. This is my own true review of this story.

I gave it a star and a very high recommendation.. You have to read this one to believe it.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #ElenaMikalsen and #WildRosePress for the eARC of this book. In return I offer my review in my own words.

First of all, I would like to say that this is my first time reading a book by this author and it won’t be my last. She sure knows how to write a perfectly developed mystery/thriller as this captured from the moment I read the first paragraph. Talk about a gripping novel. This story is all things sinister, manipulative, calculating and greed. But I do love a sweet revenge and Emma sure got hers!

This story covers a tough topic of rape and assault which was very hard for me at times but it brings out the #MeToo movement that has allowed many “Silent Voices” to find the courage to speak out. It also brings in corporate & political dishonesty and greed and how society is impacted by it. I was shocked, at how the author portrayed how Big Pharma manipulates the systems to get drugs to market at times. We need pharma to continue research & development but not like this. For this reason, I really hope much of that is embellished though.

Emma aggravated me at times with her histrionics but I had to take pause to empathize with her based on her consequences of PTSD from her past. However, I did not like the way she pulled her daughter into her drama and dilemma that put her into danger. For that reason, I felt the story could be perceived as unbelievable or over exaggerated.

I really enjoyed reading “All The Silent Voices” since it touched on so many important topics, but mainly because it is just a dang good nail biting thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. Good job #Elena Milkalsen & #WildRosePress.

I really enjoyed this face paced read!!! Great story ... a real page turner! Thus is the second book by this author and enjoy her books immensely! Highly recommend!

All The Silent Voices by Elena Mikalsen is a well written suspense novel. Emma suffered a brutal rape back when she was in college, and never really shared the details with her husband and others. Now her rapist is her new boss and her husband wants to be friends with him! Emma is filled with anger

The angrier that Emma gets, the more she starts to find ways to pay her boss, Richard back for all the wrong he has done. Now she is figuring out that he is involved in bad deals about pharmaceutical drugs that have dangerous side effects. How will she get her revenge and will her family have to pay the ultimate price for Emma's pursuit for justice is the big questions in this book.

I like the way that tough issues are handled in All The Silent Voices. The title really does provide the foreshadowing that the author will be speaking for those that can't speak up for themselves. She advocates for the mentally ill and victims of rape with care and integrity, while fighting against corrupt systems that make it difficult to get help. The interwoven connections between the school, football team, and law enforcement that Emma was unaware of when she reported her rape is simply brutal....yet part of the good old boy system that still works against many people today. It also speaks to the fear that women may feel when reporting a violence violation like rape.

Very well done book, enjoyed the writing even though the topics were not easy. Highly recommend Elena Mikalsen- I will be following her and reading more of her work!

Trigger warnings: PTSD, Rape, Assault, Mental Health care issues

All The Silent Voices is a psychology thriller in a Me to movement. The book has you gripping your seat eagerly turning to the next page.

Twenty one years later name change to Emma. She thinks she has her whole life back together. That is until the pharmaceutical company she works for is bought out. Richard the man that raped her is her new boss. Does she choose revenge or let's her fears control? Can she find away to help other women be heard?

Just finished All the Silent Voices! This fast-paced roller coaster of a thriller kept me up all night. Emma was raped when she was in college and was forced to leave because she was not believed. The years pass. She gets married and has a daughter who will be going to college. She has a successful job at a pharmaceutical company. The company is bought by the man who raped her. So many tense moments made this reader stay up all night to finish it. Good read! Thanks to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I read some other reviews and based on the positive feedback, I decided to read it. I was not as thrilled as many of the other reviewers.
All the Silent Voices by Elena Mikalsen is a book about rape and revenge. The author says she started writing it before all the #me too voices started emerging. It is an interesting story of an incident in college that reverberates twenty-one years later. I found the writing hysterical and way overblown. I don't find rape or anything associated with it hysterical but it was hard for me to read the extreme words over and over. There was no subtlety at all.
And yet, this is a woman who shortly after being raped, met and married her husband and had satisfying sex with him. No healing time needed. That is not my experience or any that I've heard of. None of the characters were believable. It is too bad. This is a subject that needs writing about, that needs to be heard. As the title says: there are millions of silent voices out there.
And, according to the feedback, many women found this story healing.
So I commend the author for tackling this subject.

This book was full of suspense and I flew through it because I desperately wanted to know what would happen next. The premise of a woman's company being sold to the man who raped her and left her for dead twenty years prior could come off as cheesy or over the top, but the author made this an enjoyable read that is timely. I highly recommend this one!

A great psychological thriller with a heroine that has to take so many decisions that will change her life and the future of the family she built over the years after she runs away from her past.
But as usual, the past comes back and it’s not an easy way to go again through all the pain and memories that she thought so hard to forget and overcome.
I loved how the author created the story and how she kept all the struggles and difficult moments and feelings very real.

Emma/Katie Shepard is married happily with an almost grown up daughter. She works in a pharmaceutical company with her husband andall seems to be going well until it is bought by another company. The manager of this company is none other than the man who raped her in college. What follows is Emma's attempt to get even which puts her and her daughter in serious jeopardy. While the idea was good, especially in the era of #MeToo, I felt that book only scratched the surface of wha could have been a great story.

This book was okay, but not really a standout. I liked Emma; I thought she was really brave and headstrong. But so many things in this book weren't that great. No one really paid for anything they did, both in the past and present tenses of the story. The idea for the book was great, but the execution was lacking. 3 stars.

A tragedy in the past no one listened and no one believed. This is a very exciting fast-paced suspense novel with turns and different twists that I didn't see coming.  A horrible night 21 years ago, what will happen now when you run into the person responsible after all this time? This book has a seat on the edge of your seat book.  I have not read anything from this author before but I liked this book.  I will see what else this author has for us in the future.  *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

I am reviewing a copy of All the Silent Voices through The Wild Rose Press, Inc and Netgalley:

*This book contains content not appropriate for young children, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone younger than sixteen.

Emma Shepard had to leave college after being sexually assaulted twenty one years ago. She has done everything she could to forget the trauma building a life for herself as a loving parent, a wife and a successful marketing career. Her world is rocked when her rapist buys the Pharmaceutical company she works for.

Now she has the impossible choice between keeping the safe life she's created or pursuing justice. With the marriage she worked so hard to build at risk, and her child in danger, Emma is at the center of dark secrets and scandals.

I give All the Silent Voices four out of five stars!

Happy Reading!
