I consider myself a novice surfer, but since moving to a beach town, I've been surfing more often. When you meet other surfers - you know, the ones who live and breath for it - it's such a contagious energy and you think, "man, I wish i could be like that." Well, this book helped me feel a little bit closer to achieving that level. This book went deeper than I was anticipating, but now it has permeated into other areas of my life. Surfing isn't just a sport, it really is a way of life. When I'm able to be present, respond to the energy of the waves, and embrace all that I can offer, it really does make a difference. Sam Bleakley writes in a way that makes you feel like you have a mentor. This is a book I can keep coming back to. Read it and surf, you won't regret it. I'm so excited to share this with the rest of the surf community in HB.
This is the first book I've read on mindfulness for surfers and I think it's great. I don't surf myself, but many of my family do, and I think they would really enjoy reading this. Following the introduction, there are twenty five different meditative aspects of surfing discussed. It is about the surfer, the water, the board, the community and so much more. This would make a great gift for any keen surfer. Thank you to Sam Bleakley, Net Galley and the publisher, Quarto for an ARC.
This is a beautiful little book which would make a great gift for anyone who loves surfing and/or the ocean. The meditations are well thought out and really make one think for a while before turning the page.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
