Description

Super organized Lucy Remington is done getting burned by unreliable men, so she’s giving up hot and spicy and holding out for reliable and responsible. When her friend sets her up on a blind date, she agrees to make dinner for a man who sounds like the very definition of stable: an accountant.

The only problem? Lucy is the queen of toasters and takeout. But she’s determined to make a home cooked dinner for her upcoming date. Instead of whipping up a delicious meal on her trial run, though, she ends up setting her kitchen on fire! Even worse, she finds herself in the arms of a handsome man who makes her heart race.

Firefighter Jake Bryant may be a genuine hero, but he’s like the curry Lucy wishes she could make—hot, delicious, and unforgettable. Therefore he’s a dating mistake waiting to happen. Despite the fact that Jake makes her laugh and she craves his company, Lucy’s mind is made up: she’s sticking to the date with the uncomplicated accountant.

To Lucy’s surprise, Jake offers to teach her how to cook so she can impress her blind date. Confident in her willpower, she agrees. Soon, however, Lucy’s hungering for sweet icing more than plain old flour. Can Jake rescue Lucy’s sautéing technique? And with a little cayenne here and a dash of chili pepper there, can he rescue her heart, as well?

Super organized Lucy Remington is done getting burned by unreliable men, so she’s giving up hot and spicy and holding out for reliable and responsible. When her friend sets her up on a blind date...

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

When Lucy has a date arranged with an accountant who loves home cooked food she decides to learn how to cook.
However, her first attempt doesn’t go well and the fire department have to come and rescue her. Jake one of the firefighters asks her on a date, she declines and he then offers to give her cooking lessons. Will she fall for Jake or will she settle for the boring accountant.

Good quick read.

Have you heard the expression "she can't even boil water"? That's Lucy Remington. The girl eats toast and a banana for breakfast, which is probably for the best, because when she tries to learn to make an omelet she starts a kitchen fire which required the fire department. It wasn't all bad because that's how she meets hunky, firefighter Jake Bryant.

Lucy's tired of dating guys that she calls "hot and spicy". They're fun but not really responsible (they forget to show up for dates, don't have steady jobs, or don't wear socks to a restaurant). She's ready for "a man who is reliable, safe and secure. Someone who'd make a good husband. Someone who'd make a good father. Someone who doesn't make me want to pound my head against the wall repeatedly at the end of a date." *I laughed aloud at that.*

Lucy's no-hot-and-spicy-diet is in trouble as soon as she meets Jake, but thinks he's wrong for her and wants to stick to the safe accountant type. Besides being gorgeous, Jake knows how to cook and offers to teach Lucy so she can cook for her blind date. You can guess how those cooking lessons go. Let's just say the kitchen got hot because the heat wasn't only coming from the burners/oven. 🔥 I don't want to give the ending away but I can tell you that it's swoony.

This is a fun story and since it's novella size it made for a great little break. These are such fun characters. Lucy is hilarious and I wondered how she managed to graduate from Princeton when she set the kitchen on fire cooking eggs. I really liked how she came to realize her mistake and what she had to do to fix it. This is a clean romance.

Thanks to Hatco Publishing via NetGalley for my copy. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very likeable and the story line is good. I really enjoyed the dialogue between the main characters.

This was funny and sweet and I loved how Jake tried to helped Lucy, even when she was trying to date someone else. Their connection and chemistry was undeniable however and was probably hotter than the fire Lucy caused. I loved their banter and their chemistry. It's an entire cute, sweet story about finding exactly what you need when you least expect it.

Lucy Remington has given updating the men that she thinks are right for her and is now going after steady and stablemen, like the accountant that she has a date with on Friday. She has decided to cook him dinner. The biggest problem with that is she does not know how to cook, to the point of burning toast.
Deciding that you must prepare first she decides to start with an online cooking class, following a chief. Here it begins to go off the rails. When the chief decides to make an omelet and she has gotten most of the eggshells out, he then has her turn the burner to low heat. She decides why low and slow when high and fast is better. It should also be noted that she does not have any patience as well.
Meanwhile, her friend watching begins to tell her, her pan is on fire when she finally realizes that the pan is on fire, by the loud screeching noise of her smoke detector. Hence the kitchen now full of smoke.
Jake Bryant one of the firefighters arrives and just in time to catch Lucy as she took a swing at the smoke detector with her broom standing on the marble island only to miss, slip and fall into his arms. Jake is drawn to her and though she will not admit it she is to him as well. When he asks her out, she declines because she is looking for someone like the accountant that she is going to meet.
Jake suggests that he give her cooking lessons which she agrees to and these lessons turn out to be just as funny as her one time trying to cook. This is a very fast-paced book that I read in one night. The characters are all good and go with the story and Lucy really kicks it up with her wanting to rush things along.
See how her date with the account turns out and also how Jake is such a good cook. Will Lucy stick with the money guy or stay with the burned nachos? Avery good book.

Susan Hatler writes clean romances that still sizzle with chemistry and comedy. Her romantic comedies balance humor and heart, and her couples are always a great pair. In Date to the Rescue, Jake is trying to teach Lucy how to cook, but he teachers her about love and relationships at the same time.

All Lucy is trying to do is cook for blind date, but instead, she almost burns her house down! In the process, she meets Jake, a trustworthy, spicy fireman, and even though she tries to keep up her walls and protect herself, she just can't help but let the man in.

When you read Susan's romcoms, you'll laugh and sigh, and sometimes laugh so hard you'll cry. So if you're looking for a couple of hours of romcom fun, this is a great book for you.

This is yet again another great read by Susan Hatler! I needed some good humor in my life right now and I tell you, Susan sure provided that with this one. Such a great read that you will not want to miss out on.

Lucy is done being burned by hot and spicy guys and is determined to find someone more low key and stable. Tom supposedly likes home cooked meals and Lucy is determined to be able to make a meal for him when they have their date in a week. Lucy is the queen of take-out and making things in a toaster. How is she going to be able to make a good home cooked meal?

When Lucy decides to practice cooking one day, she decides to make omelets. When she turns the burner up because she wants them to get done quicker, she doesn't realize that she is pretty much calling the fire department at that moment. When she ends up catching everything on fire, the fire department does end up coming and she finds herself in the arms of a handsome fireman. Lucy can't get over Jake's green eyes. Jake takes care of Lucy and they both have eyes for each other, but with Lucy having a date soon, she tells Jake that she can't go on a date with him.

Jake calls to check up on Lucy the next day, saying that it is a business call, Lol. Lucy knows that it is not and they end up talking a little and Jake takes on the task of teaching Lucy how to cook. Well,... when Jake and Lucy do their cooking sessions, things heat up for them. You will have to read to see how things end up, Does Lucy got for Tom or for Jake? Such a great read!

You won't be able to put this one down until you are done!

[3.5] Sweet and simple. I’ve read some of her other books and they all have a similar style. Which is not a bad thing, always know that I’ll enjoy reading them, and that it’ll be a nice, easy read.

This book was all about finding love when you least expect it. Lucy Remington is tired of the unreliability and instability of the men she’s had so far in her life. She’s done with adventurous guys and all that ‘spice’ and ‘heat’. Of course as fate would have it, that’s when a guy straight out of her dreams comes into her life and unfortunately for all her rules, he’s an adventurous firefighter with all the spice she doesn’t want. The romance was cute but not very well in-depth. I felt like I didn’t get a chance to know the characters that well, especially Jake, the love interest. It was a pretty standard plot, where they meet, get closer and fall for each other, some slight angst between them, and a happy, if not slightly cheesy ending. Again, nothing wrong with any of this. Sometimes I need a lighthearted book like this. But I felt like it could have used a little more to it.

I received an ARC from NetGalley. All opinion stated here are my own.

Amazing! If you are looking for a great book with lots of humor, this is it! Lucy Remington has given up on “hot and spicy” men and is going to give the “reliable and responsible” men a go. For her first blind date with a dependable man she is determined to cook a home cooked meal, but she can’t cook! So, she decides to practice with her very limited kitchen supplies! Her first practice run, and she catches her kitchen on fire. Dashing firefighter Jake Bryant responds to the call and is captivated by Lucy, but she refuses to go on a date because she has given up on “hot and spicy” men. Jake convinces her that he can help her learn to cook. This was a “can’t put down” book that I had to read in one setting. Be prepared to laugh!

Complementary copy for honest review and opinion. This was the cutest little short story. I loved the characters. Susan Hatler is a fun and clean romance writer. I was impressed how she wrapped me up in the story with such a short time span. It was perfect!

Lucy has had lots of dates with 'spicy' men and been disappointed. Now she wants someone steady - and probably boring. With a date lined up with an accountant (definitely fits the criterion!) who she has been told enjoys home cooking, she decides to attempt to make dinner for him. The problem is that she can't cook. An attempt to follow a cooking show ends with her burning down the kitchen - but is saved by a handsome firefighter, who she is attracted to but puts aside because he doesn't fit what she's looking for now. But putting him aside isn't so easy when he offers to teach her to cook. Does she really have to choose between unreliable spice and stable boredom?

Another great clean, light romance by the author - I sort of run out of things to say, because though they're all different, I like much the same things about each one - the good writing, the humour, the satisfying ending, etc. I wouldn't want to read this sort of thing all the time, but there are times when you just want a brief escape with something light, and this is just the ticket! Recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
