Description
Raised a tomboy on a central Texas ranch, Emmaleigh Wallache returns from a year’s visit during which her Bostonian aunt introduced her to a life of culture—fulfilling her late mother’s wish. Her is intent on marrying her off to the son of a wealthy meat distributor to guarantee the success of his cattle business. Happy for her time spent in society, Emmaleigh struggles to discover where she truly belongs.
Foreman Brett Haynes, who has waited until Emma turned eighteen so he can reveal his caring feelings, can’t believe the changes a year made. Gone is the spunky girl who raced him through fields or swung from ropes over the swimming hole. He has nothing in common with this sophisticated young woman and despairs she is unreachable. Can he remind her of life’s simpler moments and win over the heart he has always thought of as belonging to him?

A very timely read! This cute story involves a quarantine and Old West-social distancing, allowing parallels to current times. Although it took me out of the story a bit, not by any fault of the author, it was interesting to see a similar situation play out in 1878 Texas.
Although it was predictable and wrapped up a bit suddenly, Transforming Emma is a cute, fun read perfect for a quiet afternoon.
3/5 stars

Transforming Emma is an adorable tale of a young lady who returns from a stay with her Aunt Nadine having completed finishing school and a bit of college. The college part is unknown to her father. Emma believes she has returned to the family ranch a different person. And, she has. Emma learned a lot at finishing school and college about herself, what she believes, what is right and how to tell the difference. It takes her a bit to get her feet back on solid ground, but she is the person she always was only with her experiences to be a better person and helper. I loved her servant attitude and how she was able to stand up for what is right a good. She was able to speak a few truths with kindness and compassion.
Add in a handsome ranch hand, Brett, she already liked and possibly loved. As I indicated, it takes her a bit to get her feet back on the ground to the lady she is and the rancher’s daughter she was raised.
I loved the way Brett found and accepted Emma’s ideas for improvements/changes on the ranch. He asked Emma to explain her thoughts and the information to help make the ranch run better. Only a true gentleman and self-assured man can do that.
Her father was interesting! He learned a few things from his now experienced daughter. Aunt Nadine? Well, she learns a few things, too.
This is a great weekend and clean read. Loved it! This was my first Carroll-Bradd book. I will be looking for more of her work.
This book is about Emma a rancher's daughter who is returning home after a year of education learning. She returns to her home and reconnects with an old friend the foreman of the ranch Brett. Brett feels that he is not enough for her but when unexpected events and guests show up can the two of them find love together and rekindle the friendship they had before she left?
This books was a sweet read, I loved Emma she was such a nice girl even though a lot of the people around her weren't always nice or willing to let her be herself rather than who they thought she ought to be. I loved Brett he was very nice but he didn't think he was good enough for Emma since she returned from high society living away at school. They both care for each other but don't know how to say so.
I was sad about Dieter getting chicken pox, I was waiting for something horrible to happen but it didn't. The boy recovers and you can see that Emma loves him and cares for him a great deal. I was really annoyed with Emma's aunt and her father's guests they were so selfish and pompous. But Emma deals with them with class.
The ending was the best part and I really did enjoy how the story happened, it went by so fast! I would definitely recommend this book to others if you're looking for a short, sweet historical romance with likable and some not so likable characters that provide a quick fun story.
I missed where Transforming Emma was part of a series. Granted, I don't see any reason why Transforming Emma couldn't be read as a stand-alone since that's exactly what I did.
I'm having a hard time reviewing this one, guys. I'm bee-bopping along, reading and enjoying Transforming Emma and wham. It just ends. At the weirdest place. I suppose enough was wrapped up to consider that an acceptable ending place, but truthfully I felt like there was plenty unresolved.
Emma is likable. She left her family home still in mourning after her mother's death. Her father sent her to his sister in Boston to attend finishing school. While there, she attended several academic classes as well and hopes to bring what she's learned back to the ranch to help her father with his cattle business.
Brett has been in love with Emma since before she left. He was waiting until she turned 18 to reveal his feelings for her but her return from Boston kept getting postponed. When she does return, she's changed. And he isn't sure he fits in her new world or the plans her father has for her.
Emma's father was a contradiction to me. She seemed to have fond feelings and memories of him in the beginning. But as soon as he returns, he is gruff and harsh with her. Demanding and even demeaning. Eventually, Emma does show him that her input is valuable, but I felt like this was one area that could have used more resolution.
I enjoyed Transforming Emma until it ended too abruptly. The characters have backgrounds and felt pretty well rounded. More than anything I simply felt like Transforming Emma was incomplete. Transforming Emma gets 3.5 Stars. Have you read Transforming Emma? What did you think? Let me know!
Refreshing to see a character as a tomboy. The book shows how Emma goes from a tomboy to a lady. It is very interesting to be able to watch how she grows before your eyes.
Emma Wallache fulfills her late mother’s desire of learning the ways of society. After spending a year and a half with her aunt in the city, she returns to her small hometown, new and reformed. Brett Haynes is shocked that the girl he had been in love with had come back a completely different woman. But maybe not quite as different as he originally thought…
I love the way this author writes. The descriptive details put me right there in the story, the plot gripping and making me forget I was reading at all. It was enjoyable to turn page after page, the story not once slipping into boring drudgery. I liked this book quite a lot, and I’ll definitely be adding more of this author’s books on my TBR list.
This is a well written story that hooks you on the first page. It is a book that once you start reading. you don't want to stop. It has just the right amount of drama and romance that made it a wonderful read. This is a clean book that was a joy to read. Thank you Backlit PR via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Received this from Net Gallery! "Transfoming Emma" is a wonderful, sweet romantic book that I really believe everyone will so enjoy! From the very beginning of Emma's life as a tomboy to becoming a woman was a very well structured store. If you are like me,you will enjoy not only the story but what "Linda Carol-Bradd" brought to this book! Very well researched and the characters you will begin to know as if you know them in real life that's how they come across to you in this book. I love it when that happens because to me that's so hard to do. You have a little of all sorts of emotions in this story along with romance and learning what it is to grow up.Hope you will enjoy this story as much as I did!
I enjoyed reading this book. There was a good storyline and interesting characters especially Emmaline . I kept reading it until I finished as it was not boring. I do recommend that you read this book.
Transforming Emma is a good book. It is true to the series and I enjoyed my read. The characters were good and I liked the story
A sweet story that warmed my heart. Emmaleigh had grown up on a ranch in Texas and was a tomboy through and through. Unfortunately (for Brett) she was sent to Boston to spend time with her aunt, who transformed her into more of a society girl. When she comes home, all dressed up for the city and tries to maintain that persona, she seems like a totally different person.
Foreman of the ranch Brett Hayes, had loved Emma for a long time but he bided his time until she turned eighteen. Now, he wonders if his Emma will ever come back again to the life she grew up in and be able to love him.
Loved this story and all of the Lockets and Lace series. Just melts the heart.
I enjoyed this western romance story with the two main characters that were Emmaleigh Wallache and Brett Haynes. And also the rest of the characters to.
Emmaleigh Wallache is returning from Boston to her family's home. She has been visiting her aunt and also going to finishing school. She is quite happy to be back at her home and also happy to see everyone.
Brett Haynes is a foreman on Emmaleigh Wallache family's ranch. He has had feeling for Emmaleigh for years now and has decided to see if he can court her now.
This was a fun to read and quite sweet.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
